- Birmingham-born Clare Waight Keller (inset), who made history as the first female artistic director at French fashion house Givenchy, was revealed as the designer of the eagerly awaited wedding dress on Saturday morning. The designer, 47, said Harry spoke to her after the ceremony at St George's Chapel. 'He came straight up to me and he said "oh my God, thank you, she looks absolutely stunning". 'So I think for the both of them, they were just radiant at that time,' she said. Ms Waight Keller's comments come as Kensington Palace tweeted sketches (top and bottom right) of Meghan's dress. It said: 'The Duchess and Ms. Waight Keller worked closely together on the design, epitomising a timeless minimal elegance referencing the codes of the iconic House of Givenchy.'

I loved the dress, not only because it's a classic but because it was so simple it let us focus on the love they were showing each other, no distractions from that because their expressions stole the show
It is a royal wedding. Not Barb and Fred's wedding. It is an historical event. She didn't bring it.
absolutetruthgirl A matter of tastes and opinion. I love a less is more dress and apparently she does too, as you can see from everything else she wears. Royal wedding or not, it's their wedding, she wore what she wanted.
Exactly
@@absolutetruthgirlless is more
I admit i was disappointed when i first saw the dress because i was expecting more sparkle..but the more i looked at the dress as she was walking and sitting the more i liked it..the fabric glowed under the lighting of the church the way the veil curved around the pews as she and Harry sat.. the dress looked medieval like the church...the dress was the vase and she was the flower..the lack of embellishment lets me know Meghan is minimalist..the lack of "fit" lets me know she wants to be comfortable..Lack of makeup let me know she is being her real self..Plus she had 2 more receptions another dress to wear and it was gorgeous also..
cynthia ferguson AGREED!! well said!
Take a look at her appearance at Prince Charles' birthday party...makeup on point, hair on point , dress on point, hose on and small clutch. She brought it there...why such a miss on the big day??
absolutetruthgirl I agree wholeheartedly. She's normally so put together. That insipid, ill-fitting, slightly crumpled wedding gown was a major disappointment. And her hairstylist needs to find another line of work.
Yes I agree. After this wedding dress disappointment I went back to view other European royal weddings. Princess Stephanie of Luxembourg chose Elie Saab for her designer...that dress was stunning! Princess Mary of Denmark's dress was a dream and fit her so well. Princess Charlene's Armani dress was a similar fabric to Meghan's but the fit was 100% better. The hype of this wedding and dress exceeded the reality.
cynthia ferguson sorry some don’t know about classic..not everyone wants to have bells all over their dress ... it was a gorgeous dress.. you might want to dress like Santa not everyone... that’s what she wants get over it
When you are confident enough to ear a dress and not the dress wearing you. Not over the top just classic. Compared to Kate's dress, Kate's was stunning and its what people expected it to be. For Meghan, we all expected the same, it was beautiful GIVENCHY! Harry thanked the designer, told her his bride looked stunning and that's all that matters. Haters be gone!
good vibes that gown did not fit her well. It was bulky through the arms and chest. Just awful.
Patricia Bilinkas apparently her husband didnt agree with you.
What do men know about wedding dresses?
good vibes agreed good vibes and well said.
Patricia Bilinkas no, it did not look awful Patricia and Prince Harry loved it, and that’s all that matters.
The dress was absolute CLASS! PERFECT to show off the beauty of the bride...as well as the amazing veil!
As for me, the dress was supper good without complain. Good job ma'am
She looks so beautiful .The wedding gown was simple but elegant. Dreams do come true. Imagine Meghan Markle a divorcee an ordinary person and got married to a Prince.Prince Harry is lucky to marry Meghan Markle. She is brain and beauty.
The dress was simply stunning. Meghan was a precious jewel wrapped simply being given lovingly to her new husband. She looked ethereal walking slowly into the chapel as the sun shone through. I don't know if it could have been any more perfect. Meghan has a simple, chic style. It didn't make sense that her dress would be different from any of the clothes we have seen on her walkabouts. She wasn't a young blushing bride needing to play dress up on her big day. She is a grown up who knows her own style. She carried both dresses off beautifully. The only other person she needed to impress was Prince Harry. Clearly, she nailed that! Nobody else's opinion matters.
Well said.
The bride groom and designer are all happy with the dress an that's all that matters.
Meghan looked absolutely stunning, pure elegance!
Simple elegance everything was perfect!
Good job Clare.
“It had a HUGH crease in the dress”….you did a horrible job!
I really love the dress design.
Less is more, a beautiful, classic dress.
Beautiful dress, perfect just for Meghan. Any more detailing on the dress would have been overwhelmed by those on the veil. Everything balanced out just right. Excellent job Claire 👏👏👏
Such a beautiful gown and veil. Elegant. Meghan looked amazing.
Im not a fan of wedding dresses. This is the first one i've ever seen that I have ever wanted to wear on my wedding day. It was ELEGANT. I loved loved the fabric and the easy to wear yet flattering cut. I do think it would be nicer on a taller, bigger woman but overall meghan wore it splendidly
The dress was beautiful
Looking better in the sketches. The veil idea was lovely, but the actual dress looked a bit square on meghan.
The sketch is more beautiful than the end product.
Kate's dress had a bit of stretch due to the lace, whereas Meghans dress, if property fitted would not have allowed her to raise her hands, move her arms or sit. That's probably the reason it was loose around those areas.
Crochet Happy
Oh please, what a lame excuse for an ill fitting dress? It would have fitted properly if the RIGHT fabric was used and not one that fits like a cardboard. I am a fashion designer by profession and have already made replicas for some of my clients. The design is also meant for a taller person with an hourglass figure, not a petite person like Meghan who does not have the body to carry it well. And don't get me started on the veil, which was too long and dwarfed Meghan. Also, nobody puts so much emphasis on a veil that is not even seen by people. It was a momentous, historic occasion and a greedy designer decided to rob her in broad daylight and put beautiful Meghan in a white sack with sleeves and a neckline.
Ribnaa Hanaa
Exactly! Brilliant comment.
Smitten Marigold If you have watched any video's of Meghan, she would not have settled for a dress that she didn't like. She is outspoken, intelligent and worldly. I had fashion design and have two degrees from fashion school. Any fabric that would have allowed stretch would not have been used, as I am sure only the finest silk was used for this dress.
Perhaps she lost a lot of weight after the last fitting? It has happened
Her dress looks a lot like that of another black European princess...Angela of Liechtenstein
wolsilita Wonderful inspiration
This dress reflect absolutely what Meghan’s style is all about. She is a famed women who has nothing to prove to any one. This shows that her style is her style and she knows what she wants and is not going to copy or dress to impress. She wears things she likes and that’s it. Any way she looks absolutely stunning in that minimal and at the same time regal wedding dress. Only Meghan can make that dress what it is, a dress to be remembered.
Why copy a dress worn by another Royal? Tacky at best.
Zuhair Murad, Michael Cinco, Ellie Saab...even Pnina Tornai for goodness sake..anything but that fondant dress. The silence from the fashion industry is deafening.
absolutetruthgirl she dressed for her husband not you or the fashion industry. And they were not silent i heard compliments from several.
Miranda Brooks I'm really curious...who are they?
Meghan looked beautiful, elegant and happy, she looked like a woman in love.
Harry was so lost in his bride, all you saw was love all over his face, and he thought she "looked amazing" and that's all That really matters. That being said, I think she over paid.
they all must have seen a different dress ...
congrat's a lovely gown, and better name....
Beautiful Dress!! Chapeau!!
People complaining about the 👰dress have no class I would even say commoners . Her royal highness looked wonderful and gorgeous . What a handsome couple.🙈🙉🙊
Give me a break. Meghan is a commoner & looked it in that bulky mess, you are just a fan making excuses.
Marie Batteea indeed
Ribnaa Hanaa Yes! She needed one more fitting AND some interesting embellishments.
Yes MM had the same dress as princess Angela von Lichtenstein! Not so original at all .....
Lets just admit Grace Kelly' s wedding dress is unbeatable always and forever!
thegirl nextdoor. Agree ....
Kate's wedding dress was a better version of Grace Kelly's dress
I think this disigner deliberately show her great sketch and delivered a bad wedding dress. Meghan should have been useful for one of the American designer's for her big day. That's Life, maybe her silver wedding would be great. We can now wish the best for the happy couple.
or third wedding you mean HA
matthew young, i hope she will end up with Harry until they both have children and grandchildren.
Clare Waight Keller is my aunt.
French style is completely different to British style. I am waiting to see what kind of dress your fiancee will put on guys.
In my humble opinion the dress was not good enough for the occasion .. it was not fitting well .. simple yes but not flattering ..
It did seem a bit loose in places.
Terrible dress!
thank you!! finally someone calls it like it is...boring, bland, bad.
Exactly. There's nothing exciting to the dress. It looked good, but it didn't seem to shine and have an impact like the Duchess'.
Some people just don't understand simplicity. It is the highest form of class. No way was she going to win everyone over. If she went to much she would have been roasted, too little still gets roasted. She was never going to win. But she did win because she looked outstanding.
Meghan was stunning, but the dress was so ill fitting. She let Meghan down.
Haters and critics, hate and criticize on. I would venture a guess that neither Meghan nor Harry give a rat's ass about your opinion.
I think the dress screams pure Givenchy / American minimalist class. Audrey Hepburn meets Calvin Klein / Narcisso Rodriguez. It's near perfect. I think the nod to the Commonwealth is very touching. I wish the haters will just stop it! It has the hall mark of Meghan's own vision of her dress. I'm a huge fan of Prince Harry and I just wish people will leave his wife alone!
The dress looks hideous and boring 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮
For all the publicity she got she shouldn’t have charged her anything. 200k for any dress is beyond ridiculous
Sada De Vries you’re kidding right? Can you survive on publicity?
Sada---Royals cannot accept freebies like actors or other celebrities can.
I bet you didn't say shit when Kate's cost $450,000?
arnold sanders what you say!!! For a dresssss? Mental I say .
dwaltz123 yeah true. Give her a discount damnnn haha
It was a nice dress, but not "historic" moment!
PJ Bottoms she dressed for her preference and to please her huband not to please you or to be epic.
PJ Bottoms I think you've got it. A Royal wedding is an historic moment. Meghan didn't give enough time to the dress, only a few months. She will have to be more careful in the future to order her bespoke garments well in advance of big occasions.
The dress was a miss! The media is doing a case of the emperor’s new clothes here. The dress was absolutely terrible!
lesly Dutch "It was Meghan's idea." Enough said.
lesly Dutch her husband doesnt agree with you.
lesly Dutch yeah
lesly Dutch you don't know what your talking about.
Robert Grey it’s “you’re talking about,” not “YOUR talking about.” If you’re going to disagree with someone, learn your grammar. My comment is in no way disrespecting the bride. It’s for the designer since she designed that dress. And it was a huge miss!
I still want to see a diagram of the veil.
Jff
just off topic Meghan did not start wearing messy hair until she moved to London..got London hairdresser..this woman's hair is messy also look...Chelsy Davy hair looked messy too....from this American perspective its not good look.
❤😊
Seriously, I thought that dress was a nun's outfit, it was so plain and severe with the long sleeves and no shape. Kate's was better, even though it was so similar to Princess Grace.
Most disappointing dress I've ever seen...
YES!!
Mandy Wilson i dont think her husband cares what you think. He loves her and the dress.
She could have gone to Kleinfelds for less. Two hundred thousand pounds? Yikes!
lol I got my dress there in 1981!
the dress ..hair..um.. was soooo not royal.. I as an average citizen would've looked nice with it...but the ROYAL wedding should've been more fancy and sparkling.
Kim Wona I guess you’ve never seen Crown Princess of Norway’s wedding dress or any royal born princesses of the 20th century get married in their gowns....many were simple in design and did not have “sparkling” as you put it. Perhaps you are thinking of Russian style gowns of grandduchesses of the 19th century...those were quite elaborate.
Kim Wona but it wasnt your wedding! She got the look she wanted on her day. And the look met with great approval by her husband. Hes the one that counted.
Miranda Brooks Well stated ! I agree with you 100 %
Kim Wona Your feelings about the dress and hair are felt by many. Even if we don't believe Royal people are special, they believe they are and their clothing reflects their rank. This dress wasn't special. It was rather run-of-the-mill. The colour was beautiful against her skin and the veil was pretty BUT the design was average and her hair needed DRESSING. Her inexperience showed.
French Fashion dont need British Designers ,,,Sorry,it s not French elegance
Oh please....John Galliano and Alexander McQueen at both their prime were the only designers being talked about amongst the french heavyweights during their era.
@@jonnyfendi2003 ,i repeat French Designers are way better than
all British designers,British designers tend to make noise for a while Alexander Mcqueen ,It s all about Ugly
Skulls,,,And Gallianno a Racist Anti jew ,,,,,Please
The dress was simply beautiful, but u could do better with the Vail ,the Vail did not compliment the dress.
What do you suggest? A burka perhaps?
Now let’s speak the truth from givenchy…..LOOKING AT MARKLE WEARING ANYTHING ….NEVER FITS HER….
You nasty troll
Worst designer for Givenchy !!! Omg
Bad design for Givenchy MEN collection ... can’t compare with RT...
Didnt like the dress at all! Like a shiny curtain and she looked like she just came out of bed
You are good designer
You cannot even sew a straight line lady
Megshite 😁
Nasty comment
