  • Eurovision is a special event for all Europeans, and this year's Eurovision was exceptionally chaotic and queer. With Italy's Maneskin finally snatching the victory for Italy after 30 years, Eurovision's legacy has been successfully restored.
    In this video, I will be doing a recap of the most memorable moments in this year's Eurovision and rant about the importance of Eurovision and controversies that surrounded the Italian winner Maneskin.

    Here's what pissed me off about the whole drug controversy... Some of the people who were spreading that rumor were justifying not winning saying that it was because Italy was on drugs (i read someone from the UK literally say: of course we are going to lose when everyone else was on drugs! I'm inclined to disagree, though we had Cristiano Malgioglio as Eurovision host this year and he's probably the most flamboyant gay personality we have, the situation is still not ideal and we're also behind most of europe about lgbt rights. It may have been a thing in the 70s but it mostly stayed there, I actually think it should be linked to a new wave of appreciation for femininity that only happened in recent years. • @Sara-fd3dd
      @Sara-fd3dd 2 года назад

      @@leriety True, but that's not what he meant. He meant this only in the artistic field, in which, indeed, often little attention is paid to the way of dressing or behaving of an artist (unless, as in the cases you mentioned, there is a real political alignment ). Malgioglio himself, who as you reiterated was the commentator, was not at all targeted for being clearly effeminate, because we already knew his character and nobody gives a damn if he does his job well. Achille Lauro in Sanremo this year also made explicit pro LGBT gestures live. Obviously someone had to argue, but who did it? Frustrated boomers who write indignantly on facebook, not newspapers. I find that precisely on an artistic level we have enormous freedom of expression (just look at the indisputable variety of our artists who participate in festivals and talents), even if unfortunately this does not coincide with everyday sexual freedom, and that is why we are not a "back" country, but a tremendously self-righteous country.

If the UK keeps sending mediocre songs/artists, they should not complain if they get "nul points". Yes, there may be a bit of "political vote" going on, but Italy got twice 12 points from Ukraine, which is not even a neighbouring country....I also thought the UK song wasn't that bad, quite catchy actually. (Germany's was probably the worst...) But on the night, James sounded a bit out of breath and the staging wasn't that great. The point is, because of the huge amount of good music coming out of this country, Europe wants more from the UK. They expect something like Adele or Ed Sheeran and they get James Newman.....No disrespect to James, but it is a tall order to represent the UK; almost anyone is bound to fail....The drug story was just bullshit. It's not a France vs Italy thing as someone suggested, it's just some fake news thrown there to create sensationalism. "Parla la gente purtroppo parla..." it says it all.

Absolutely unecessary and inappropriate of him, he might not have created the rumour but he's the reason the French press latched onto it.
    Edit: it was apparently a Swedish journalist. The point still stands.

    Well to be honest I saw it live at the moment when the singer looked down and my friends and I also thought he would do drugs. And I really think due to their looks being so close to what I associate with the rock from the last century and we all know that stars like Alice Cooper are open about there drug abuse in there early days of their careers. But when it happend on live TV we were more amused than anything, totally forgot about it until I saw the articles going viral. Some people need to take things out of context and try to take away what's rightfully earned, just because it doesn't aline with there views and beliefs.

    Well, I still don't understand either how it began the matter of the accusation of using drugs to Måneskin, but, as someone who was following the final, maybe it was a mixture of what you said, of some comment in social networks, like Twitter (I remember having seen many before seeing the video, that I guess I missed live) and maybe then, after that kind of rumour arrived, some delegations of the countries that were on the top, like France (I only have read comments about that country, but, as with the rest of the issue, I don't have real facts, just rumours and so on) joined to it to criticize them, because of being jealous of their success. If that was right, I guess it's really dirty on their behalf, whoever was implied on it, because, as you said, I think Italy deserve to win, for many reasons, as their originality and their great outfits and performance, regardless of if you like more or less the song, that it was also great in my opinion.
    The thing is my favourite this year, by far, was Gjon's Tears, representing to Switzerland and my previous idea was to see him performing it live and seeing him winning. By then, I just had seen a video with a summary of all the classified songs and I couldn't find any that special like "Tout l'univers" was for me. But then, watching the final, I found some surprises, appart from Italy, that it was one, like Finland, Iceland, Malta or Russia. This last one, especially, for the same reasons you explained in the video. I loved the message, above all, although I also think the song was good, but I focused more in the message. By the way, I couldn't agree more with your take about Israel's participation this year. I found it really ironic that the title of the song was "Set Me Free".
    Finally, it was a very special event, because it was, as you said, the first event of these features that could held and I was willing to come back to normal habits like this one, even though it's from home.
    Thanks for the video. It's been interesting. Greetings from Spain.

Look what happened with Russia this year, and the geopolitical relations between countries in Europe (well, pretty much any country lol) and Russia are a whole lot worse than what anyone thinks about the UK vs EU thing atm. It seems like Brit newspapers rly liked that narrative in the run-up to the final, but lots of people living in the EU, save for some bureaucrats, rly don’t have anything against the UK inherently to reconsider a vote on Eurovision lol. I guess Conchita just was too good not to win; but if you check the scores you'll see she didn't get many points from Balcan/former Soviet countries. Turkey cited her win as a reason they won't compete until LGBT musicians are banned from Eurovision (yeah, right... fuck off, Turkey). Finland 2013 had a great song and finished 24 and I think it was because the singer kissed a female dancer at the end of the song. Russia meanwhile banned any expressions of LGBT identity on tv.
