it is impressive that we see a former rival / axis power country PM now addressing the highest seat of power within Democracy. His word stuck chord in the fact that the US can NOT back down from its role as the world leader. Regardless of our situation at the border - where Communist countries are weaponizing illegal immigration with free trips to Mexico. The US needs to NOT only secure its borders BUT ALSO to maintain its role to help both our past allies and former rivals who are now successful democratic countries to maintain THEIR security as well. Isolationism is NOT the answer and the rhetoric that accompanies such a mentality is ONLY going to weaken our role as the hegemon in to maintain law & order and the rules of navigation & commerce. To pull away from that role is to weaken our country. Numbers aside whether we seek to have our allies meet the equivalent amount of 5% or the minimum of 2% of GNP/Cost of Defence spending relative to their own economies OR to the Treaty organizations to which they belong is ALL relative to sooo many data points. In the end Allies will act within their own defence and security interestes but for a country like Japan a former enemy to now supply Patriots, "Aircraft Carriers", F-35s to help support the overall global mission of the US Military is immense. I look forward to the day when an Indo-Pacific version of NATO can emerge. And he said "we need strong BI-PARTISAN support" - stop the bickering, backbiting and stupid political gyrations - there is a new Cold War we must meet head on and it is coming out of Russia & China and their AXIS of evil - NK, Iran & all their proxies.
