This interviewer loves the band and is a fan himself, simply loved the questions, it feels like I am the one asking stuff and the level of depth his thoughts gets is great either.
Anyone who is a fan can tell the older the guys are getting the more free they are being. People are losing their minds over Cold, I love it and Tony loves 80's music and a Queen fan it's not surprising he'd do a song like that. Some fans just need to grow up and let Tony create what he wants.
Poor Tony, putting himself down over Unia because he "didn't do as good as a professional arranger nor the proper tools." All artists are hard on themselves and he has a right to be - I can't and won't tell him he's wrong to regret his own work - but Tony, if you ever see this, know that it was a masterpiece, in my opinion. It touched me so much and has a sound that I've never seen anywhere else and I just can't say enough good about it. But I also love all the other albums so much, I can't say I'm stuck in any one of the eras like other people are. It is all Sonata, with the Sonata sound, a sweet and unmistakable flavor that you manage to infuse into every album. Keep up the good work, and keep following your hearts - it hasn't failed you yet! Also, since I live in the U.S. I never got to see the acoustic tours, but I love all the pre-existing acoustic versions of songs and wish I could hear a CD of them - since you like the acoustic, maybe an EP of the Acoustic Adventures would be a nice little project between albums?
I never understand why he keeps saying Unia was too complex or too progressive, or had too many layers. To me that's what makes it a masterpiece and my favourite Sonata album. Feels like such a waste, to think what music he could have made had he followed in that direction.
Great interview, its really nice hear someone who is a real fan of Sonata Arctica and don’t spend all the interview questioning about the “changes” in a bad way 👏🏼👏🏼 thanks I enjoyed the video so much 👍🏼
Its great to hear it from Tony about the criticism. People really don’t know what writing music is about. Like Tony said, he writes music that he likes and making music that everyone would like would be fake. Fans will never understand that and will still complain because they are ignorant. Enjoy the music, enjoy the lyrics and meaning that’s what sonata has always been about. Good on Tony for keeping true to himself
I’d go as far to say it’s one of the best interviews ever. Their interviews are never boring or business-like, but it takes a great interviewer to get stories and answers like these :)
Excellent questions! You are one of the few interviewers who is a big fan and not afraid to touch the subject of the 'we want ecliptica power metal back'' whiners . Interesting to hear Tony's input on that. Also, TDOG is my favourite too! :)
This interview is fascinating in 2023 since Tony has since acknowledged that people really want a power metal album in the style of Ecliptica - Reckoning Night and this is exactly what they are promising for the upcoming 11th album in 2024. Lets see how that turns out!
Mikko is their front of house guy and if you watch Sonata Arctica European tour 2012 and North America tour 2012 you see Mikko mainly laughing because of Tony being a goof
well You and Tony weren't reading people comments too much. Most people that I've seen having negative criticism of recent SA activities were saying that 1. Sound engineering went to shit, mostly because of Pasi's mixing. Pariah Child, Ninth Hour, Ecliptica Revisited and probably Talviyo have the worst sound Sonata ever had, to the point where albums from 2001 sound better. And if we say recent albums arent metal and old ones were then Stone Grows Her Name wasn't a metal album and it sounded better than new ones. 2. Lyrics are simpler and don't have the same depth as old ones, even song titles are weaker with Love, Life or Blood 3. Passion is gone from Tony's singing, on most songs he sounds bored and uninspired. If he truly writes songs he wants to sing then why does it sound like that? There's 1-3 songs per album where he sounds invested and the rest sound bland. The worst case was Ecliptica Revisited, I don't think there was a single song he could pull off. I know he's older but Kotipelto is even older and can still give his all and put his heart into music. 4. General lack of direction in SA music. Previous albums had more integrity and songs were connected by the general idea behind the album. Even Unia had that kind of integrity. Days of Grays had it as it's strongest point with this whole passing/fading motive. Stones Grow Her Name was the first album with problems in that area but it could still pull off 2 Wildfire songs that didn't feel truly out of place on the album. The Ninth Hour feels like an album made of B-side material of Days of Grays or Pariah Child, Talviyo will probably be a B-side/leftover material of Unia and Stones Grow Her Name. I've been a fan of Sonata Arctica since 2003 and I would love to see them make great music again, but that hope dies step by step since 2012. There were only 3 tracks since them that I truly liked- Cloud Factory, Fly Navigate Communicate and On The Faultline

Henkka said in an interview with Tuneola which is on RUclips they might do an acoustic album
@Allen Lewis, they are touring with Kamelot and Battle Beast in North America. Kamelot's Twitter, Facebook and IG have the dates etc
Unia is definely one of my favorite sonata albums, I have to agree. Really really awesome

Quality ove quantity, and deepnesa over shallowness and urge to gain money and new fans. Respect for him and band
Lol watch Elias in this interview. Eyes darting around, half smiling, fidgeting, polite laughter, so funny.
Best interview of talviyo. Thanks
I agree!

The days of grays is a masterpiece, i'm not feeling alone now xD
It's mine too :D
Best Sonata album, along with Unia, but TDOG is somehow more fun to listen to. But UNIA is complex and outrageous.
Unia is great. I'm one of the few who like SGHN especially I Have A Right
@@NeeceLoneWolf SGHN is a great hard rock metal album, i love it.

I'm so happy to hear the new album is going to be more progressive. If it's similiar to Days of Grays then it will be great!
Amazing interview! Can’t wait for Talviyö 🤟🏻
Such a a solid and great interview, phenomenal questions matched with phenomenal answers
Just noticed how Elias tried so hard to say something, but he's too polite to interrupt... cute as hell.
looks like he was REALLY nervous/anxious
My favorite is Silence
Cool :)
What's the fast bonus song they're talking about that has an intro similar to children of bodom? I couldn't make out the title... Thanks!!

I miss the sonata Arctica of 2004
