How do you standardized the ratings? Age based rating system is important. Sex, nudity and violence need to be restricted from certain age groups, regardless whether they were done with taste and style. Otherwise they will be exposed to similar cheap trash scenes. As bad as those films may be, making bad trashy movies are protected by the first amendment. They are part of free speech. Mind you that studios want their film to be more child friendly, not for the sake of the children's well being. They're doing it to reach broader audience aka making more money.

I will always remember a British period drama called I Capture the Castle which is a PG film by all accounts and that's its rating in the UK but it was shockingly given an R by the MPAA just for a a brief topless shot in a non-sexual scene. It very clearly demonstrates how fucked up that system is.
