So the reason behind the never completed Anacosita is that is to politics (what isn't with city projects nowadays). Someone I met used to work for DDot and was involved in the planning of the DC Streetcar. Put simply, they were halfway through construction when someone asked "Why are we building a City owned Transit service, to a Federal Government owned facility (Joint Base Bolling). The higher ups said no more and started looking into a new route, hence the existence of the H St/Benning Line
Great storytelling!! Great video- thanks for drawing attention to this old line. DC really fell short of providing better transit that Anacostia deserves. Revive the streetcar system!!
I’m very disappointed in DC. DC was the hub of a streetcar network, but now it can barely get one line built. We need to bring it back and stop with this car friend infrastructure. Transit is lit in Europe, we can do the same for DC.
The camera was aimed to the ground a lot because I was in the sun and my phone was at the lowest brightness to save battery. I’ll try to redo this video later if requested
Why is so much money wasted in constructing tram tracks in concrete? That entire off street section should be on ballast. It seems to be a trend in most places that have trams.
What a sad situation. Instead of the government sticking its nose on foreign nations problems, why can't the fossils in Congress get this line rolling to serve DC residents! How much money was squandered on putting down tracks that aren't used. Our government needs a total reboot--new faces, new ideas, and the ability to work together to move the country forward.
Wonderful look at a forgotten chapter of DC transit! I'm surprised nobody talks about this much these days.
Wow. That’s quite a shame that a lot of infrastructure was already built before the project was completely abandoned. What a waste.
Interesting
They should revive it, maybe pop up

This is just so incredibly sad. Maybe DC could revive it along an alternate route.
I'm making a huge draft that includes the resumption of the construction of the Anacostia streetcar line
