This Tips video encompasses the basics of implementing first-person scenes of a character moving down a rope from an elevated position.
Q: What if I want a 3D representation of rappelling in my video?
A: Then this Tip wouldn't fit you unless "realism" isn't your primary concern in a Garry's Mod video. For machinimas I would recommend either using one of the rappelling animations the Combine Soldiers have (and manipulating them onto a different model) or to animate it yourself, using an addon such as Stop Motion Helper to ease the process.
By the way, Stop Motion Helper can also help you animating first-person action as well. Of course, everything takes practice.
