Thank you Sigma Canada for sharing this beautiful film. Wayne, Kyle, and Frank are three amazing people. It's been my great pleasure to have met two of them. Hopefully, one day I will also meet Frank Kulack :)
This is a beautiful video! So glad to own the sigma 40 1.4 and 105 art 1.4. Two of my absolute favorite lenses ever. They are incredible for creating stunning portraits and do event type photography.
What led you to choose these focal lengths? I know they aren’t your typical 24mm, 35mm, 50mm etc. that most people would grab. I love that they are off the norm. Was it because of their focal length after the crop factor? Great stuff!
I think part of me wanted a 50mm but always thought it felt a bit too tight and i already have a few 35mm lenses...but for the 40mm after hearing just how stunning it's performance is from trusted members from dpreview website i had to try it myself. Was very impressed by its wide open performance at infinity. I saw some great reviews of it as well. The 105 1.4 i wanted a 135 and 85 but couldn't make up my mind which so a 105 was a great in between focal length 😁 I also saw an awesome review by dustin abbot on youtube that convinced me to try it out in a local store which really made me smile with what a crazy bokeh it was producing. And not to forget it's amazing sharpness wide open! I think I've always been a type of photographer that doesn't follow what the typical norm is with shooting portraits at 85mm. It's boring. I love artistic bokeh and portraits that give a different mood. I actually really like a b/w self portrait i had my wife take of me with the 40mm!
Sev that’s so awesome. Yeah you can tell it’s not quite a 50, but it feels great. I think I run into that issue all the time where it’s trying to find the right length, and you just settle in between them. I love it. And these were the cine versions of the lenses rather than the photo lenses?
@@weddingvidpro2389 I've always struggled with wanting a fast, wide prime... for me, 28mm gets me wide enough form most instances where I would need it but it is not so wide that it distorts my subject too much. 40mm (my favourite) is a beautiful environmental portrait lens. I find that although the 35 includes lots of my subjects environment, it distorts my subject too much when I get close to do something like a head and shoulders portrait. As much as I love the 50, at times it's just too tight for my liking... such as when I'd like to include the environment. The 40 is a perfect mix... I can go tight for a head shot with acceptable distortion (for me) and I can back up and get just enough of the environment to tell a story. The 105 is just beautiful for getting that classic feel of extreme shallow depth of field in a close up portrait. I love the 105 for simply concentrating on the eyes and having the option to blur everything else in the frame. Hope this helps!
I am now using the Sigma Art 28,40,and 135mm then the Nikon 85mm f/1.8 S . Crazy combo . The 135 is my new love and way more useful that I’d ever thought. Then the 28 is just the workhorse. I need to stick on the 40 Art more often. I have the Voigtlander 40mm f/1.2 and when it’s on it’s so nice I hate taking it off . Wish Sigma had a 40mm f/1.2 Z mount . That is lighter than the 40mm f/1.4 Art of course.
Some say, to this day he is still waiting... I have bought the 40mm f1.4 today and am very looking forward how it performs on my D850. I have to say, 28 / 40 / 105mm are indeed a very nice trio of lenses for full-frame. A 14mm f1.4 would make it an awesome group of lenses.
Great story btw superb video well done ! I own now the 20mm 1.4 and the 105mm F1.4 Art lenses so I am skipping the 28 and go for my next lens the 40mm f1.4 Art
Wayne, thank you so much for sharing. I can totally relate to your found passion of photographing real people. I too am attracted to, and find beauty in lives lived, in life stories, and in people who have endured. Their faces are so much more interesting than the contrived. I have been following your FB posts for a few years and I hope to join you in one of the courses you teach. I loved this video, it gave me further permission and inspiration to photo-shoot what I love.
Hey Wayne! Would love to know why you choose these “off” focal lengths for your photography, meaning most people will choose either the 24 or the 35 rather than a 28 or the 50 instead of a 40mm. I’m looking to purchase some glass and intrigued by the 28/40 combo for video. Do you think there is a large enough focal distance between the 28 and 40mm? Thanks!
I just picked up the Sigma 40mm f/1.4 Art . I can see it’ll be a story telling lens . I sold off my Sigma 50mm art to get this lens . The 50mil for me wasn’t what I wanted. Next will be the 28mm f/1.4 Art . I have the 18-35 f/1.8 art on a Nikon d500 . This is the lens that taught me how to story tell in that 27-40 mil full frame range . I think the 40mm Art will live on my d850 for a while.
Hey raksh9, thanks for the comments. Most of the film was shot on the SIGMA 18-35mm T2, 35mm T1.5 and 50mm T1.5. You can see a few behind the scenes images at: www.sigmaartisans.com/legacy
These lenses are hard to find for rental. Wish I could try them in LA, but nothing on sharegrid. Please let me know where I can find the 28, 40, and 105!
Hi guys do you know if the Sigma lenses (Cine or Art Series) have ever been used to shoot on a motion picture film camera. Thanks in advance...I hope they have.
I hope I don’t offend anyone. But is this guy, like a leper or whatever? What are all those knobs on his nose n stuff? I’ve never seen that before. And he seems to be living alone and off the land like leprechauns do. Crazy. I guess no need for a skin softening filter tho right. Heh. That’s cool tho. He’s lucky to be in some really cool photos.
This is one of the few ads I’ve ever decided not to skip through. Some great cinematography and storytelling. Good job guys.

Thanks so much Michael!
An add for photo gear that was so good, so well made and so inspiring that I decided to save it as "photo inspiration" to aspire to. Wow, well done!
Damn, I wish Google Ads would give me ads like these. I'd actually watch them.
This is an incredible film!
Its soooo beautiful! Credits to filmmaker and colorist and/or editor. Great job

The flash at the end was such a nice touch. Incredible! :)
wonderful photography and documentation
Appreciate the comment Peter!
This is truly amazing ...incredible work
Thank you!
Three lenses of (for me) are perfect focal lenghts . I’d love to see Sigma do a 200 f/2 art to go with these lenses.
Some say, to this day he is still waiting...

Mega coole Bilder 👍 Grüße aus Deutschland 🇩🇪
What was this filmed on? Cameras and lenses please:)
Dear Wayne Simpson, thank you very much. Why it is impossible to use 28 1.4 hood simultaneously with a filter?
Brilliant!!
I just picked up the Sigma 40mm f/1.4 Art . I can see it’ll be a story telling lens . I sold off my Sigma 50mm art to get this lens . The 50mil for me wasn’t what I wanted. I'd love if Sigma made a DG DN version of it's 28mm prime.
this was amazing
So looking forward to meeting and learning from you in September 2022 Wayne.
Oh wow. Now this is how you sell lenses, with beautiful films shot with them, and of them. Which Sigma cine primes were used here?
Hey raksh9, thanks for the comments. Most of the film was shot on the SIGMA 18-35mm T2, 35mm T1.5 and 50mm T1.5. You can see a few behind the scenes images at: www.sigmaartisans.com/legacy
I love this ad.
I came looking for info on SIGMA´s 40mm. .... now I'm sold
it's such a great lens, you'll love it!
Nice job, Kyle.
The music is haunting. Any idea what the three song soundtrack is? Clare de lune opens, yes, but then...
What lenses is this shot on?
and when are you releasing the Mirrorless versions of these? :(
These lenses are hard to find for rental. Wish I could try them in LA, but nothing on sharegrid. Please let me know where I can find the 28, 40, and 105!
Shot at 2:25 is so crisp
Excellent
Really enjoyed this video! what did you use for music and SFX? Thank you
Hi guys do you know if the Sigma lenses (Cine or Art Series) have ever been used to shoot on a motion picture film camera.
Thanks in advance...I hope they have.
I don't know about motion picture film, but cinematographer/director Mark Toia often uses the Sigma cine lenses on his RED cameras.
I hear this guy talking about himself but WHAT ABOUT THE OLD MAN I WANT HIS STORY
Yes
Bravo
anyone recognizes the piano piece playing at the beginning ?
Claire de Lune, Claude Debussy.
Ratio 2:35:1?
16:9. they put black bars on the top and bottom to make it look like a widescreen 2:1
Incredible video!
Wish I could get these lenses for free. Unfortunately I can’t effort them.
Don't beg, it's unattractive.
I hope I don’t offend anyone. But is this guy, like a leper or whatever? What are all those knobs on his nose n stuff? I’ve never seen that before. And he seems to be living alone and off the land like leprechauns do.

В этой сьемке главное не обьектив - а импульсный свет с огромным софтбоксом!!! Именно он дает такую классную картинку
