First Tyrannic War and Battle of Macragge | Warhammer 40k Lore
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 1 окт 2024
- In this episode I discuss the epic clash between the Ultramarines and Hive Fleet Behemoth tyranids in the First Tyrannic War! From epic heroes like Marneus Calgar to horrifying beasts like the Swarmlord, everyone will have something to fight on good ol Macragge.
I always want to put out accurate lore, but I recognize the real and likely possibility I will make mistakes. Entertainment is the first priority of the Quick 40K lore series, and I always implore you to look into the topics discussed more in depth. Read the books, play the game, and watch other creators too!

Learning that Tyran was an ocean world suddenly makes me want aquatic Tyranids. I doubt it would ever happen because it can’t be made into proper models, but a story about giant killer fish and kraken nids would be cool.
Ya that would be super cool! I’m a sucker for aquatic themed minis. I think it could work, they did a great job with the deepkin models for sigmar.
Thanks for watching!
That sounds cool, but they would have to be zoanthrope adjacents to move by floating
A Krakken Tyranid, hell yeah!
Ooh! Maybe some sort of Amphibious inspired Tyranid?
An Axolotl style giant monstrousity.
There probably are Aquatic Tyranids, but just like we don't see Imperial Submarines, we will never see the Aquatic Tyranids because GW refuses to acknowledge naval battles.

I like the idea that swarm lords are really important tactical assets since the hive mind at large is so busy with their untold wars in other galaxies that it's just not possible for it to focus on individual battles
Ya makes sense to bioengineer little micromangers, even the hive mind could take a break🤣.

One correction for the video, there’s no “Swarmlords” only one. Reborn over and over.
@@Alpha-zb8spgoddamn the amount of times this poor bastard has died. But realistically i dont think thats feasible lore wankage aside
RMCbreezy They don’t have to be reborn in the same hivefleet, when their mind gets yoinked, they can be transmitted across the galaxy.
How I understand it, every hive tyrant is unique, semi-autonomous and respawns, the Swarmlord is only named because he’s particularly smart and has a unique weapon choice.

One of the Terminators who died in the battle of the Polar Fortress was Lucian Ventris. Because of this honor, Uriel Ventris was able to join the Ultramarines. Now I want him to cover the Uriel Ventris story
I hope if you cover more of the Tyranic wars you bring up how a remnant of Behemoth attacked a forge world and a skitarii alpha had the idea of filling the sky with promethium then igniting it with his Dunecrawlers neutron lasers only for this strategy to be stored away and forgotten.
Oh yeah I remember that story lmao. It’s pretty metal I’ll definitely include it in future tyranid vids.
Thank you for watching
It's an actual 5000iq move, but now I wonder, would it actually burn for a long time? I have a feeling that all this promethium would just explode in seconds and do nothing.
@@zergrush_9704 If I remember right it was also mentioned that the flaming spores landed on the nids already on the ground. So a pretty effective strategy even if it is just one big explosion for a bit like you described.
The actual quote is “set the skies ablaze” so hard to tell if they mean just a big series of explosions, or the sky actually being on literal fire for a while.
I wish Tyranids had more lore, thanks for bringing some love to the best bugs
Yep! Tyranids are really cool I feel they get relagated to bolter fodder just because of their huge numbers and essentially immortal nature.

I liked 2008 clone wars in general, but it did add some wierd things to the setting I didn’t like. Filonis recent shows haven’t been that great tho imo.
Thanks for watching!
@@KrakDuk.
To be honest the one really good thing about the 2008 show was the way the characterized the clones, and I mean that that was a genuinely good aspect of it and now I would say the show overall was mostly it mixed bag.
And it had a lot of missed opportunity and under utilized concepts, like Darth maul being alive after he got cut in half made no sense, but if the night sisters going and recovered his body and capturing his sith ghost and reviving him through necromancy by sacrificing some of their people to bring them back, that would have been a lot better.
.
.
.
But as somebody who has been learning how to write for the last 5 years, I can tell when they either didn't give a shit about a character or were annoyed that they had to include them based off of the way they did things.
And I wish I had an example to point too off the top of my head but I don't, and saying when you learn how to do something yourself from scratch it changes your perspective on a given skill or general topic, Isn't really a satisfying or conclusive argument but man I'm telling you it's there it's pretty easy to pick out if you know what to look for.

Who will win in a fight between The Tyranid vs Destoroyah
I will forever respect the tyranids for their almost supernatural ability to nuke space marine plot armour from orbit. First Macragge, then Baal.
I hope some astartes ass gets kicked before the fourth tyrranic war reaches its conclusion.
I kinda like that out of all the chapters that dealt with the Tyranids the Lamenters are the ones that surprisingly survived them while on a penitent cruzade on minimal numbers
They didn't even bother to call them for the devastation of Baal and they were still figthing the Tyranids on their own, It's almost as if they won plot armor only for the strict purpose of their suffering to continue
They kicked the Custodes' ass in the new lore, absolutely balling
@@DisasterLord I mean for all we know they just haven't received the call yet and will get it hop in to warp drive only to arrive when bael is now relatively unprotected so they have to last stand it.
@@christianlangdon3766 "ah shit, ere we go again"
The tyranids can have some pretty plot armor moments too.
That whole adapts to anything anytime anywhere gimmick has been more than once used as a cop out.

@@KrakDuk I see you are a man of culture as well
Watching your videos is always such a blast! The little detail, the comedy simple awesome!
The tyrandis are one my favourite parts of 40k. The add so much to the setting the huge monster that don´t care about anything but biomass.
Even thought i have to say they are a double edged sword. In Lore the posses such powerfull abilitys like terraforming plantets while they attack them or launching tyrandi micro organism onto the defenders what would be an insta win everytime if we are honest. So GW has to balance there powers, and as we all know GW is very skilled in balancing
Thank you!
Ya I agree with those points fs. I think another thing that ironically hurts their character in story is the fact that they’re essentially immortal. Any character in the setting that can revive seems to get disproportionately beat in fights lmao.
And ya a lot of factions would have insane OP abilities if they were just 10% more willing to properly use their resources. But planetside sword fights are more epic than those things so it all works ou😂
Thanks for watching!
@@KrakDuk The immortality aspect doesn´t even bother me that much. As you said in your video it basically gives them infinate retrys. I like the concept of them only being "defeated" when the hivemind desides that an attack is wasting more biomass than they would gain. As i said double edged sword for a narative if you make them basically unbeatable, Them showing up is an instant game over what make for unbelievably dark stories. But if the are beatable it makes for stories of great heroism, what works well for the guard.
0:08 "...one of the factions that hasn't got much love on the channel yet, is the Tyranids"

Ive never forgotten reading about the BFM way back when i first started in late 2000's, and the part of the Northern Fortress. Im more of a Tyranid fan, but you cant help but feel such massive respect for the terminators who held out as long as they could in the last room.

Absolutely love 2003 Clone Wars. Still one of my favorite series for Star Wars.
Great video as always. The First Tyrannic War is interesting since it was the smack in the face the Ultramarines needed that they needed to start thinking for themselves more and make changes to Codex Astartes, despite most of the chapter disagreeing initially with making changes
Isn't it cool and epic that old 40k battles actually felt pretty apocalyptic meanwhile the 4th tyrannic war is still ongoing and defeated the "last line of defense" planet and we hear zip zero nothing?
Happy Canada Day
Ya the battle of oghram seemed pretty inconsequential lore wise. I’m wondering if they’ll actually do anything with it for the edition or if it’s just mostly going to be flavor like the necrons were for 9th.

No. There really isn't anything wrong with the Ultramarines. I just prefer Space Mongolia to Space Rome. Ultramarines go hard into Roman culture, like White Scars do Mongolian culture, or Space Wolves with Nordic culture. Still waiting for Jaghatai to return.

7:33 I didn't knew if they were that scary until the 2003 general grevious comparison dude that's actually scary asf.
this might do you head in here, but the 2003 grievous is probably a better representation of a normal hive tyrant, and the swarmlord is quoted multiple times as such: "the swarmlord is to a hive tyrant what a hive tyrant is to a gaunt". they are absolutely INSANE.
oh, and they are both 20 and 25 feet tall respectively, so the fact that they move as fast as they do while being taller then most buildings is honestly just as terrifying as their intelligence lol

Ya I eventually want to cover at least all the founding chapters and then probably some other fan favorite ones. It’s kinda just a matter of time and the fact there’s so many lore things I want to cover.
Thanks for watching! Glad you like the videos!
How many ultramarines were brought in to fight if it was just the first company was it only 100 marines?!
@@cmtz2098 I may be missing something, but at lease the 1st, 3rd, and 7th company were confirmed to be there. However it’s likely more companies were also present, I don’t think the entire chapter was there though.
Also keep in mind they had the PDF, navy, freeblades, and titan legions to help them. Most 40K battles have guardsmen or some other force doing the bulk of the fighting while space marines rapidly assault critical points of hold important positions. Marines are pretty terrible front line troops and are more suited for shock assaults or ship boarding.

They had ONE baneblade... what was this, a 1,500 point battle? I'd have expected them to bring a hundred. Although I'm not all to clear on what a baneblade is exactly, I've used A Rhino and A Basilisk so far.
I care about 2003 Clone Wars.
...but I'm in my 40s, so that probably doesn't help you.
Man, the only thing I hate about GW is that they always say "oh, the Swarmlord is the PEAK of evolution, intelligence and adaptability" and then we look at it and it's like... Just a Grievous Xenomorph XD
Don't get me wrong, I love your interpretation, but I myself would want GW to do something with the Swarmlord that is actually interesting, like making multiple models of them. If any character should have multiple different models that fills different roles, it should be the Swarmlord. Imagine the badassery that would be having a Swarmlord that isn't as bulky, but it's slimmer, faster and its boneswords are thinner and sharper, or a Swarmlord that trades two arms for two Biovore or Pyrovore cannons that shoot bioplasma and spore mines, or a Swarmlord that just goes all in on the Psychic shenanigans and looks literally just like a bigger Neurotyrant with more tentacles and some lovecraftian things like eyes on the brain, a super large synaptic field and several different spells... You could do ANYTHING with the Swarmlord, and like I say, GW's motto is "Wasted Potential", so of course we will stay with the Hive Tyrant Reskin that "is to a Hive Tyrant like what a Hive Tyrant is to a Gaunt, trust me bro, they're completely outmatched by this slightly bigger Hive Tyrant with four swords"
Nice drawn Skittari. I like it
Thank you! For a while I struggled to translate them to my style in a way I liked.
And yet, without the Ultramarine Plot armour, they are just so....pathetic. Sure the Roman armour theme is nice to look at, but compare Ultramarines to a chapter like Space wolves, or Dark Angels, or Salamanders, they are boring, dull and lack any "ohhhh" factor. If it wasn't for their Primachs recent Heretical behaviour with that Eldar woman, I question if anyone really remembered Girlyman.
Even with Space marine 2 be my game of the year, it just reinforced my option of the Smurfs being dull and boring, and one huge way to make the game better could have been to use probably any other Chapter as the protagonist but as Ultramarines are the poster boys for Warhammer 40 Space marine anything, it makes sense, disappointing sense but still
Calgar doesn't just lose - he also loses I'm pretty sure ALL OF HIS LIMBS. But then he becomes a cyborg so he can punch even harder, and beat the Swarmlord in a rematch.
I love the Shadows of the Abyss idea! . . . But sorry, Space Marines also have a couple of similar things, less so with the Iron Snakes but definitely with the Dark Krakens, which I'm currently building! And I'll be the first to say: it would be an honor to serve alongside some brethren from more aquatic worlds!
my lil son likes your drawings!! hahah GUARDIE
Tyranids are one of the few things in 40k lore I gotta say, I don't like. I like the tabletop Tyranids but the lore is just... ugh. Nothing makes sense in 40k, but Tyranids probably takes the cake.
You know...they did something kinda like this in 1968.
Anyone recall what happened?
Don't worry KrakDuk, I havent forgotten the 2003 Clone Wars :(
PS the Clones were way cooler in that one but I digress.
It always bothers me how 40k goes "the fleets were ENORMOUS with THOUSANDS of ships on each side" and at the same time "oh yeah there were like 100 turbodudes and a tank and that was enough to turn the tide of the whole planetary battle". Like I love the aesthetics and the story, but god they have no clue about proportions
I care about 2003 clones wars (especially grevious😢)
Most people don’t like the ultra marines because GW’s love for them has corrupted all the other marines. It’s a fairly common sentiment that the other chapters are “just ultramarines in x color now”. Also, a big U as your symbol? Grow up.
Supposedly, the Emperor himself fought the Tyranids during the Great Crusade, though it's never been really confirmed.
The Legion of Ouroboris is believed to have been either an advance scouting Hive Fleet or was just an isolated Hive Fleet/were Genestealers.
I'd love to see a video on that if there is enough for you to go on!
