Brian Wilson did not "give" Surf City to Jan Berry. The song was one of two Jan & Dean compositions that originated with Brian Wilson, but Brian and Jan wrote it together. Sure, Brian contributed vocals, but Jan wrote the arrangement and produced the sessions himself, so the total effort on Surf City was really more Jan's than Brian's.

Annie Ginsberg went on to be a very successful radio disc jockey, including working seven nights a week on WMEX in Boston.

Surfin' Safari was not the "ripoff" of a Chuck Berry song, it was "Surfin' USA. Brian did not GIVE Jan & Dean "Surf City". Brian did NOT just sing back up on "Surf City" he also sang the co-lead. etc etc There are TOO MANY incorrect facts in this clip to list them all. I also think you guys were very disrespectful to Jan & Dean (Particularly Jan).

Things need to be corrected here...Jan and Brian NEVER became bitter towards each other at any point in time (at least not to any point of significance), nor did Jan ever get pissed off at Dean for signing on Barabara Ann. Also, there was no bitterness between Jan and Dean either as the bitterness in the made for TV movie "Deadmans Cuve" was largely Hollywood fiction and never a recount of factual events. Also, Jan Berry NEVER came to realize he was not as good as Brian Wilson at any point in time. Jan was a perfectionist, and a masterful record producer who in all reality was teaching and influencing Brian Wilson behind the scenes, make no mistake about that. They were "two leaders working on records together", the words of Brian Wilson.

Thanks for the great comment, Shawn; that is spot on. There's a lot of misinformation about Jan & Dean out there that continues to crop up.
