I have been using fountain pens since I was 8 years old. That is over 52 years now and counting. Thank you for bringing this pen to my attention as I am always looking for new innovative designs to add to my collection. Great review!👍 Kudos from NYC.🗽
Great review. Been following fountain pen reviews for over a year and yours is the first that has prompted me to make a purchase. Very excited to get my Namisu. 🙌
This is simply commonsense design. I love seeing something so simple being presented so well with a practical effect. Thanks for the great insight into this pen.
Nice pen. I'm just starting my fountain pen journey. Mating one with a good journal has really helped me appreciate the differences between a good pen and a standard ballpoint. Thanks!
Thank you for this video. For more than one reason. I love the review and the fact that you mentioned/showed that it accepts a converter. On a slightly different note I am glad that you posted this video in the not perfectly polished format. I want to start my own channel and carry a lot of anxiety along with the idea of doing so. It helps to see that sometimes a polished delivery such as yours takes a few shots. I am putting in an order for the Namisu, gonna go with the bead blasted finish. Thanks again.
Yeah, it was getting late, maybe 2AM by the time I posted. Everyone does retakes, from Mr Beast to MKBHD. I'm still learning developing a workflow that would prevent things like this from happening. If you are curious about getting started, some resources I used were @Steven-Thompson, @KevinKolbe, and @jennavarx.
I have one of these with the M nib. It's been a dry writer so it's been shelved for a bit as I prefer a broader, wetter line. I did a little nib work with a brass sheet while watching and it's a little better, so I'm going to carry this for a bit. My usual ECD pocket pen is the Kaweco Brass Sport (B nib). I do like the Namisu Nova design a lot, though. It's an impressive looking little pen.
Thanks for the Namisu review. I am not so enamored with the shape of the pen but the engineering and quality of it look very good. I do like the bead blasted finish. Hope you are having a good new year.
Thanks for the review. It's a beautiful pen and I love everything small and practical. Please fo keep posting. Coming to the Kaweco now. The Kaweco Al-Sport is the ultimate EDC pen! It's compact, durable, and lightweight thanks to the aluminum build, making it perfect for carrying in your pocket or bag. The smooth writing experience and reliable nib ensure it’s always ready when inspiration strikes. Plus, its sleek design just looks awesome-practical and stylish all in one!
Wonderful review of a very interesting pen. Thank you and I very much enjoy your videos, Larry. I went ahead and ordered one as well and included the sleeve that they offer.
I got one in the stonewash finish, mine had some nib problems but after opening the tines with a small amount of pressure it writes beautifully. Thank you for bringing the Kaweco converter to my attention! I didn't know this folding converter exited.
That nib alignment feature is really cool, but could be just that much better with a guide showing where the clip will be when screwed on. Maybe a notch or mark on the inside that would be hidden when the pen is assembled
I’ve been eyeballing a new EDC bc the stubby bois look so adorable! I struggle with the clips, so my only recourse is to get more til I find the perfect one.
Is there? I had trouble with the editing software. it kept chopping it off, so I’ll go back in and check. thanks for pointing that out. For this video just adding a comment enters you to win the Kaweco.
Just a quick note tonight to let you know I have ordered the little Namisu pen. In 6-12 days it will be here. I will look forward to it arriving. As an aside, I laughed out loud to the Shining reference. 🤣 Have a great week, Dave.
Interesting pen! I love the idea of pocket pens, but the lack of a converter is often an issue for me. I would love a modern incarnation of the Eversharp Bantams, with the little squeeze bulb at the back to fill the pen. Tiny celluloid pen with the capacity of at least a standard converter.
AFAIK the only pens still being made with anything that isn’t completely fill-n-go like a converter, cartridge, etc, are the Conklin Crescent. It is a shame really. There’s so much utility in it.
This pen looks really neat. I have some small pens, but I like this one and may actually get it. I find that for edc I want something that is robust, yet at the same time comfortable to use.
I have a video on the Gravitas Dinky, but if you have large hands, it may be a bit too small. Stay tuned for another pocketable pen video. I’m just waiting for it to arrive. It could be strong competition for this Namisu.
Thank you for the review of the Namisu Nova, this is the first I've heard of it. I'd like to be considered for the giveaway. Thanks again for your time and entertaining fountain pen content.
Nice new pocket pen! I’ve been heavily into demonstrator pens but am finally branching out recently. Been interested in getting my first Kaweco, specifically their metal type bodied sport pocket pens, on the off chance of actually win, this would help my pocket but I’m 0-6. Doesn’t hurt to try! Great review!
I appreciate you trying. Hopefully the random number gods will smile on you soon. There are still a lot to come. Check out the upcoming giveaways for this month. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxwaYvOnaKYBvt-71EydFV1d2zarmieF2i
Thanks, I appreciate the feedback. Still trying to strike the balance. It’s quite possible I accidentally edited out the keyword, which I’ve done before. In which case, I just didn’t use a keyword in that video and all comments were entered to win. Thanks for pointing that out, I’ll go back and double check.
Love pocket pens! The Kaweco has been on my wishlist for several years. My penmanship is very nice, but my printing is garbage. I would love to print in the style of your quick brown fox line!
That’s nice of you to say, but it comes out of necessity, me not being able to keep several styles separated in my head. Any handwriting teacher would cringe at my Bs with descenders and Vs with ascenders and such.
I have one of these - the ‘Petrol’ titanium one - waiting to be inked up, but I’m not going to start using it until the both of the two cheapo Chinese eyedropper ones I have are empty. (This is part of a more general plan to not have too many pens inked at the same time, but I haven’t quite figured yet what the correct mix of pens is, beyond always having a pocket pen on the go to work with my now-permanent pocket notebook. Currently inked-up fountain pens number about eight, plus I usually have at least one ballpoint of some form within reach for stuff a fountain pen doesn’t suit.)
You have great self-control, my friend! I’m struggling with the same issue. Sticking to the "currently inked" video schedule is forcing me to have better discipline and right now I have the 5 for this month, plus the pens I demo. Which Chinese are you using as eyedropper? I’m always afraid to do that with a cheap pen, in the event they become a leaky mess.
I like the background music on the video. Your review of the pen covers everything I want to know, thanks. Though it's clearly a pocket pen and designed for posting to make it usable, it reminds me of the Lamy 2000. I didn't notice a magic word for the giveaway, though I'd like to be considered. There is nothing from Kaweco in my pen folder. Thanks.
I'd like to enter for this Kaweco sport. I haven't had experience with pocket pens, but I think my ideal pocket pen would be made of a metal (not aluminum, something that can just be bashed about), a stiff but usable clip so I can clip it to a pocket without worrying about it sliding out an EEF nib, and preferably be cheep so it can easily be replaced.
I got one of these in the Kickstarter campaign and would recommend this over the Kaweco anyday. Unfortunately my nib was defective but being bock was an easy swap and now my go to pocket pen.
Good review! really get me curious of that pen. Love pocketpens. And would love to try that Kaweco out. I actually have an old Namisu Naos which is very nice but a bit to unbalanced. The cap is really heavy (made of stainless steal) and the body not so much.
I haven’t used one, but I can imagine the Naos feeling like that. There are some brands that seem to favor a similar aesthetic but at the cost of a nicely balanced writing experience. like you say, a metal cap *can* be a sign of that (but not always).
great video great pen i just love to always have a pocketpen with me whenever i wait or sit somewhere i love to draw on my pocket notebook with my kaweco sport hope to get one in metal version some day
Recently got into fountain pens and you're one of my favorite channels when it comes to editing and presentation is yours. I'm hoping to win anyone of your fountain pen giveaways as most brands aren't present in stores and are just available through US retailors. Anyways. Great review. Love your content man. I hope everyone has a good day. Cheers!
Hi, Dave! Another enjoyable review this time for the Namisu. I had not heard of it before but it looks quite good. I’ll be looking into that brand. I would like to enter for the Kaweco drawing as I like Fine nibs and there was no keyword that I heard. Have a good one.
Would love to play from France! My EDC pen is mostly a Kaweco style one : little and with a sturdy clip. That Namisu one looks great because I do like them on the chubby side (easier to find in the purse if it wandered off)
Like many have said, I too got this during the kickstarter and had issues with the Bock nib and replaced it. Nib issue aside I love this pen and have become a Namisu fan, backing more of their kickstarters!
The alignment mechanism is brilliant! Even being new to fountain pen usage, I know that a capped pen and especially one capped with a wonkey clip would make me table the pen for a different one. More interesting information and Namisu is a new brand you've introduced me to. I'm lean to my Kaweko Collection (M) in a Rickshaw solo case for my EDC bag. But, I'd really love to find a SMOOTH writing (F) nib. (Any budget friendly suggestions for a newbie? My research thus far is pointing towards TWSBI 580) Thanks again for sharing!
That’s not a bad choice. A lot of it comes down to consistency from the factory, and TWSBI is very consistent. Brands that are even less expensive may seem budget friendly to a new fountain pen user, but can be more of a crap shoot with regard to writing, less consistent, but with experience can be tuned to be a really nice pen. That’s why I’d initially steer away from the lower-priced pen if I had to learn it all over again. There is some weird relationship behind the scenes with Jinhao, Asvine, Hongdian, Majohn, and others that I don’t fully understand, but Jinhao and Asvine range from adequate to even exceptional out of the box more and more, especially when considering the lower price point. And if you get one that doesn’t feel good to you, for the price, you can decide to use it to learn how to polish a nib, or just set it on the shelf until you do and get another in the meantime. I needed a pocket pen (larger than the Gravitas Dinky I also reviewed) while waiting for this one to come in, and I bought a couple of Hongdian M2 for $20 each. Perfectly acceptable! Last tip, If you want a "SMOOTH" writer, you’ll have better luck (IMO) finding one with a Medium nib. It requires more attention to detail to make a smooth Fine nib, and even more care, technique, and expertise making a smooth Extra Fine nib, something you’ll find less of in less expensive brands, and non-existent in cheap brands. Bonus tip, some nibs are less tolerant of being not-perfectly-aligned with the paper as one writes, so sometimes, it’s about learning how to write with a particular instrument. These are generalities so take it all with a grain of salt.
I am a huge Kaweco fan. Would love to be included for a chance to win your giveaway 🤞🏻thanks for sharing your new Namisu, looks like a great complement to your plotter.
Pen really complements your watch. What is the pen at he very top left corner (black and silver)? In a EDC I look for a durable clip that will not break and handle jeans or leather. Second, is the pen will not bend or break. Third, thin enough to attach to my Belroy pocket notebook that holds Field notes notebook.
That pen is actually clear (Ultem) and silver (titanium). The ink is dark and makes it look black. The brand is Fifty4T and the model is Titan. It has a bulkfiller-like filling mechanism that works great to drink up 4ml of ink. Plus, it has a huge #8 nib. It's my main pen since the beginning of the year. I'll be reviewing it soon. If you're interested in seeing it in action, check out my "January Currently Inked" video (link below). It's available from Pen-Venture.com or the Fifty4T site. So many good things coming from Ireland and the UK right now! You have a good set of criteria for an EDC pen. I don't necessarily need a clip, but it needs a roll-stop of some sort. I've verified the clip on the Nova Pocket is titanium. You can purchase different clips to suit your style, different colors in Titanium or Aluminum. Nice touch. I've been using Lochby notepads because I feel they handle fountain pen ink better than Field Notes (the brand) notepads. Field Notes styling makes me jealous, though. ruclips.net/video/_irnRwvisgE/видео.html
Ha, funny you should mention that. That was take 2, because the first time, I forgot to put the converter back in and it ran out. But to your point, no, the flow of the nib is wonderful. What I think you are picking up on is the shading happening with this medium-light gray ink. It really doesn’t look good on camera (great in real life) so I should stop using it to record writing samples.
For an EDC pen, it has to be lightweight, cheap and durable. Lightweight is self explanatory, cheap so it won't hurt if I lost it, durable so you can just put it in your bag and you don't worry about it breaking
Makes sense. I like a little more weight to my pocket pens (not so with my desk pens) so I know where it is on my person and they won’t blow around if I have to set them down or can be a makeshift paperweight. I can’t tell you how many times I use mine as a paperweight.
Really interesting pen - looks good, well engineered. Another really good review Dave, thank you! And damnit, another pen to add to my ever expanding 2025 wishlist. That list is so long now it would give any Finance Minister palpatations and sleepless nights... Somehow I don't think I'm the only one with such a list... Beuler? Beuler? 🤣
One of the very few pocket pens that actually has a clip. I don't know why they expect you to put some of these pens in your pocket without a clip. Even if they remove them for esthetic reasons this pen shows the a clip doesn't ruin the look of a pen, even at this size.
I have the Namisu pocket in the same bead-blasted finish, but with Petrol section and clip, and a medium nib whose tip I flattened into a *chef's kiss* monoline. It's really nice to write with but for some reason it smells like moldy sweaty pocket change when you open it… hopefully it's not the ink and that will go away when I get a chance to give it an ultrasonic bath 😅
Oh that’s odd. This one had no smell to it at all. Nice choice, by the way. Maybe separate the parts and let them sit a while? I wonder if the feed isn’t done curing.
@@AuthorsReserve I might have used marine grease between the feed sleeve and the section, I don't remember… 😅 But yeah I'll probably have to dismantle and clean the parts
I have been using fountain pens since I was 8 years old. That is over 52 years now and counting. Thank you for bringing this pen to my attention as I am always looking for new innovative designs to add to my collection. Great review!👍 Kudos from NYC.🗽
This appears to be a great EDC pen. Small, yet substantial. And it writes every time!
Great review. Been following fountain pen reviews for over a year and yours is the first that has prompted me to make a purchase. Very excited to get my Namisu. 🙌
Cool! There is rarely just one pen, only one first pen. LOL
Hi Dave! Informative review of the Namisu. It was nice knowing that it takes a converter 😊
This is simply commonsense design. I love seeing something so simple being presented so well with a practical effect.
Thanks for the great insight into this pen.
Thank you! Cheers!
Honestly just started carrying fountain pens and taking my journals a lil more seriously and wow your reviews are top notch!
I'm so glad this popped up on my suggestion. Thank you
Nice pen. I'm just starting my fountain pen journey. Mating one with a good journal has really helped me appreciate the differences between a good pen and a standard ballpoint. Thanks!
Finding these types of pairings is a great source of joy for me.
I was using fountain pens in the 1960's and stopped. Fell back in love a few weeks ago. I enjoy videos like yours. Thank you
Very nice! What goes around, eh?
Never seen a pen quite like this before. Very interesting. I also find the folding design of the new Kaweco converter to be rather impressive.
Intriguing little pen from Scotland! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the video. Love hearing about new pens and minimal designs. Gonna check the Namisu out.
Thank you for this video. For more than one reason. I love the review and the fact that you mentioned/showed that it accepts a converter. I hope it works out for you. Have you experimented with another ink?
Neat little pen. Good to hear it is larger in diameter compared to other pocket pens.
I agree. There's such a thing as "too small". I have another pocket pen of a similar size on the way. I will be reviewing soon, so stick around.
Thanks for the Namisu review. I am not so enamored with the shape of the pen but the engineering and quality of it look very good. I do like the bead blasted finish. Hope you are having a good new year.
At first I thought it looked a bit like a Dalek, but it's growing on me.
Thanks for the review. It's a beautiful pen and I love everything small and practical. Please fo keep posting. Coming to the Kaweco now. The Kaweco Al-Sport is the ultimate EDC pen! Wonderful review of a very interesting pen. Thank you and I very much enjoy your videos, Larry. I went ahead and ordered one as well and included the sleeve that they offer.
Good call. I should've done so myself.
Great video and cool pen! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you too!
I got one in the stonewash finish, mine had some nib problems but after opening the tines with a small amount of pressure it writes beautifully.
Thank you for bringing the Kaweco converter to my attention! I didn't know this folding converter exited.
Glad you fixed it! Nobody would blame you for not knowing about that folding converter--it's new, just came out the latter part of 2024.
I love a good, functional clip on any pen, especially a pocket pen.
What a fantastic little pen looks well made and writes really nicely. Glad you popped up on my feed👌
I’m glad I did too. Thanks!
Definitely an awesome pocket pen I enjoy all its unique features thanks for bringing it to your subscribers attention and sharing this video!
You bet!
Yea I am going to have to order one. Thank you for this video
That nib alignment feature is really cool, but could be just that much better with a guide showing where the clip will be when screwed on. Maybe a notch or mark on the inside that would be hidden when the pen is assembled
That's a good point! (Hehe.) Kind of related, I forgot to mention that the knurled alignment collar has an ink window!
I’ve been eyeballing a new EDC bc the stubby bois look so adorable! I struggle with the clips, so my only recourse is to get more til I find the perfect one.
LOL. Yes, that sounds like a logical approach to finding the right pen. (It's how I do it, anyway.)
Love the look of this pen. Wish I could attach it to my keychain.
The Al-Sport looks lovely! 😊
That’s a brilliant idea for someone to make!
For those who prefer colorful pens Namisu also offers the N2 in red, green, or blue. It’s also much lighter than the Nova.
Hi Dave, great review. Did I miss the info on how to enter the giveaway? I didn't catch anything in the video...
also, there is a mistake with the editing in the beginning: basically the 1st minute or so.
Thank you, Mrs. Torrence.🤣 Enjoy that pen!

Did you feel that the pen was having flow issues while writing with it? I get that it is an EF, so maybe that is what was going on there.
It’s also not a great color choice for an EF nib.
Beuler? Beuler? 🤣
You think right! LOL Wait for my April 1st video.
One of the very few pocket pens that actually has a clip. I don't know why they expect you to put some of these pens in your pocket without a clip. Even if they remove them for esthetic reasons this pen shows the a clip doesn't ruin the look of a pen, even at this size.
Right?! This pen would look weird without it even! "Form follows function." They did a nice job with the two hex bolts as an accent.
So I just got one :)
I hope you enjoy it.
@ thanks for the review. Waiting patiently… :)
I hope I win
I know I'm in the minority here, but I prefer the smaller nib sizes for pocket pens.
Represent! That’s perfectly fine, right?!
