- Imagine a photon bouncing off an electron. This is the Compton Effect. When a photon collides with an electron and exchanges momentum and energy, as they get scattered in different directions, we get Compton Effect.

The Compton effect is a phenomenon in which a photon (a particle of light) collides with an electron, causing the photon to lose some of its energy and change its direction. This effect is a crucial piece of evidence for the particle-like behavior of light, which is a fundamental concept in quantum mechanics. The Compton effect is also used in X-ray technology to image the inside of objects and has important applications in fields such as medicine and materials science.
The Compton Effect provides irrefutable evidence regarding the Photon picture of light. Light consists of particles called photons that can undergo in-elastic collision with other particles like electrons.
In this video I derive the Compton Shift Equation, as well as fractional loss of Energy of Incident photon.

Hello, how much of the course is in english (%)? Thank you for your answer.
This guy is great. It is good to see that he is now venturing into the realm of quantum mechanics. I still say no one has better "Chalkmanship" than this guy.

Great explanation sir 💐
That was a really, really nice job and explanation. I miss everything about chalkboards except for chalk squeal.
Sir, please make a video on solving schrodinger equation for triangular potential well (using power series solution of airy's differential equation). This question is asked in many interviews. This would be really helpful since nobody on YT has made it yet.
Another brilliant lecture
Great explanation,, I am end up with easy derivation 🎉❤
Excellent teacher you are!!
Nice explanation , thank you sir !
sir you way of explaining is really awesome
I saw many videos and didn't understood and got depressed. After watching your video I feel very. Thank you sir. Create more videos.
Thank you very much sir!!!!!
BRILLIANT !
Anyone from IIEST Shibpur ?
Thankyou.may God bless you
Superb sir ❤❤❤
Crystal clear❤
Terrific lecturer. Explains topic very well, clearly and concise. I do have a question. How can a scattered electron obtain a velocity of the speed of light by colliding with a single photon?
This is great
thanks for your videos , i have a question plz , about the Probability of compton effect , it dominates with high photon energy over photoelectric effect , then why its probability decrease with the increase of photon energy ? ,tried to search but felt confused , Thanks for your help
Sir you are amazing 😍
Thanks a lot sir ..
Sir is there any effect where Photon interacts with electron which also shows ' Standing Wave '?
❤❤thank you
I am patiently waiting for the video on Schrodingers equation. I hope you will touch that part as well.
The outro passion of light speech 😢😢😢😢😢
Thank you sir
Professor!, in an interaction of a photon with a free stationary electron, is it possible to predict the scattering angle of the photon? Or to predict a probability distribution of this scattering angle? Predict it only in terms of the initial state of the system.
Aslmualikm.. Sir plz tell me the
Anwer of this question..
Q. Why we have high intensity peak of scattered Photon compared to original x rays Photon... I mean peak to peak...
Because of Heisenberg uncertainty principle we couldn't dedect position and momentum of an electron simultaneously. Thus we can not predict before collision of electron and photon.
VERY USEFUL Bro... Waiting for more on Quantum Mechanics.
Hii... where are you from ?
Hii... where are you from?
Karnataka & You
Thankyou sir
Sir... Please make a series on General theory of relativity after Quantum mechanics series... General theory of relativity is important.
Hi there, I just wondered why many people seem to imply it's the 'hits per second' that counts as 'higher energy' instead of a single wave / photon approach which would be the acceleration curve of the wave on the electron. Frequency is not a good term to use in conjunction with the photoelectric effect to me as it locks in the idea of multiple waves needed to free an electron, instead of one short wave = very fast electron acceleration.. I know it's a convention and makes sense from a wave beam / oscillating system point of view but not photonically. More photon hits should produce more electron photons if the incoming photons are above the atom's energy threshold.
Extreme ecstasy 😍
The energy of the photon hf is observed completely by the electron in photoelectric effect. But in Compton effect the photon transfers only part of its energy to electron and scatters with less energy. Doesn't seem contradictory? Could you please explain the physics behind this..
I think the reason is the if you want to take out the electron from the atom you need to provide a certain amount of energy .. otherwise it won't get out of the atom.. but in collision there is no such restriction..
@@PTGaonkar I too think the same infact in photoelectric effect photon's energy must cross certain threshold energy but in Crompton scattering there is no such conditions
But the question arises that for high energy photon Crompton scattering is dominant so which one happens photoelectric effect or Crompton scattering? (The photon energy is above the threshold energy)
If you remember in P.E.E we have a work function of emiter and to emitt electrons energy of incident photon should be greater ,but here there is no such condition , and we also have x and gamma rays that cause comptons effect ,it s that only x and gamma rays cause comptons effect
I am not able to understand why Compton effect is elastic or inelastic collision. Can you please explain ? Your lecture is really awesome.
please prepare a new lecture of energy level and wave function of a particle enclosed in one dimension potential box/well of infinite height.
make video lecture series on quantum field theory, as well as general relativity.
Sir next lecture kab upload karenge. Kindly upload sir.
Opera browser's "lucid mode" made this viewing experience way better...
.Is Compton scattering elastic or in elastic . Why? Full details
Sir I want this answer. Plzzzz. Helppp
Inelastic scattering, as incident radiation loses energy in the scattering process
Nice day to you also sir
22:35 where did the C go when you substituted the Pe value with the equation
C^2 gets cancelled
sir is this why we are getting slow signal of 5G because it uses high energy micrometre wavelength radiation?
❤❤
If an object is thrown vertically upwards, then will the time taken to go up will be same as time taken to come down or will it be different?
In the absence of drag, time taken will be same
@@FortheLoveofPhysics why so because in the upward motion, it is upstream for the object and for the downward motion it is downstream then how came the both time equal
@@FortheLoveofPhysics Why light doesn't bend while passing through optical centre?
Why does light bend on refraction
Why does light slows when it enters an optically denser medium from an optically rarer medium?
@@FortheLoveofPhysics in case of refraction does change in direction of light (bending )of light has anything to do with change on speed of light
Sir next class jaldi leke aana please 🙏
After watching this lecture after 8 months, i feel reloaded😅😅😅
Sir please increse the speed of releasing new videos
sir pranam 🙏
❤
Emversity's BSc, MLT, and OT courses prepare you for the challenges of tomorrow.
I think the collision is elastic in Compton effect. He is saying inelastic . Very Confusing?
It's an inelastic scattering, as the photon loses energy
