Paraprofessional becomes teacher thanks to WGU degree

  • What started as a volunteer job at her son’s school turned into a meaningful teaching career for Roma EsteMcDonald. After working as a paraprofessional for five years, Roma realized she wanted to become a full-time teacher. On the recommendation of her school district, she decided to take the next step in her career by earning a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies (K-8) degree at WGU. Now a second grade teacher a Muller Elementary School in Tampa, Florida, Roma is enjoying leading her own classroom.

    Thank you for sharing your story. I 54 years old and work as a paraprofessional in my local school district. I have also worked as a substitute teacher in the past. I want my own classroom as well. Thank you for being an inspiration to others like myself.
