Horse looks hollow being ridden. Head is elevated that will only increase the horses spine to touch and impinge. Horse needs to round his back use his core maybe start with groundwork first.

Riding him like this forcing his head down is what caused the kissing spine in the first place, did no one tell you that

I hope he is recovering well! How old is he? He looks very young. Do you work with him from the ground? It helps to build muscles without him needing to carry weight (very good for young hourses). Piaffes are a good idea for ground work since he needs to use his abdomial muscles and thus will stretch his back.

My mums horse had kissing spine, we thought she just had stomach ulcers so we sent her to be scoped, 2 weeks before she went she came down lame, we took her to the place and she was so good getting in the trailer and out , they took her in. She went at 9:30 am I think , we were looking at houses on that day, we had 3 viewings and at around 3:30 pm ish we got a call saying she had a very severe case of kissing spine, they said it was one of the most severe the vets had seen, she also had a torn tendon in her leg. They then tried to get the injections in by sedating her as she would go nuts if they didn’t, but she still went nuts so they couldn’t do it, she ended up having special remedial shoes on for the tendon. Her recovery for the back would take ages, she would have to be stables pretty much completely for 6 weeks and she didn’t like the stable at all. They said for the first 1-2 weeks she could go out on lead and have a quick graze for 10 mins and on the 3-4 she could go out for 15 mins and for 5-6 she could go in a small paddock for 10 mins a day. So we tried for a week, but we knew after the first day of her being home that it wouldn’t work, she would try and bite us and kick us and still be grumpy when we didn’t touch her, so after a week we decided to think about getting her put down as she was in so much pain, so we got her put down on 12th June 2020 at 9:30 am. She was 7-10 years old, thoroughbred possibly crossed. She would have been lucky to be a field ornament but never rideable. We didn’t get the surgery as there was a 50% chance of it working. She was so sweet sometimes, when the pain wasn’t as bad, she loved children and young people, she would give everyone kisses and she would let me hug her, I have never cantered a horse above 15.2 hh, lulu was 15.3 hh and I rode her a couple times and she looked after me a lot. She would have been amazing if she wasn’t in so much pain. Everyone we know agreed that putting her down was the best thing, my mum was very upset as you can imagine. So on Friday 12th June 2020 lulu was shot with an injection by some people called the hunt, they shot her in the brain and she just fell, thank god me and my mum didn’t see but my mums and lulus best friend Sam did (Sam is our trainer and friend ) and our yard owner did too. We all got abit of her mane and tail and the people who loved her will get a bracelet or necklace made from her tail of mane. Feel free to ask any questions. She was only put down 6 days ago so not even a week. But yeah if you read this then thank you 🙏 and love you lulu bear ❤️😊😭😘🐎🐴you’ll be galloping in heaven forever ❤️😭

my horse has just been diagnosed with kissing spines, my vet said I could get the steroid injections or maybe have the surgery but my horse is very sensitive and it was said that there's a big chance that the surgery will either make it worse or she wont recover, what do you suggest go for surgery or try the steroid injections as I am stuck, thank you :)
