It doesn't get any better than this. It's perfect. No music, just good commentary and your honest, self-deprecating humor up against the World Champion!
Eric, the reactions you make while playing Magnus are how most people feel when they play you! :) At least you can say you mated Magnus a couple of times. For an amateur like me, that move list would be printed and framed above my bed behind bullet proof glass. Keep making videos, you are fun to watch. Also: what is that knocking in the background? And what is up with Yasser's head?
Yeah but Eric is a GM, it's not surprising that another GM is able to beat Magnus Carlsen. It's like saying a top 100 player won a game off Federer.. it's really not that surprising. Nice of you to point out though :)
Carlsen is a better player than Fischer was. that's not a diss on Fischer, it's just the mere fact that it's been almost 50 years and Carlsen has the advantage of all the new theory that's taken place in that time.
RyanC232 doesn’t matter. Magnus is the reason people want a Super GM title. He’s on another level even against other GM’s. Fabiano and Magnus both are.
It's awesome that Magnus played Eric like this, no doubt knowing it'll be Twitched and RUclipsd. This channel is the way Chess coverage needs to go, modern and fun and full of energy. It's time to take Chess away from the stuffy awful FIDE rubbish and get it relevant again.
yeah, get some big tittied streamer girls and top 10, high as fuck, sudden death, strip tournaments. An atheist fatty and some vegans in there, boom, you got the money printing machine.
Carlsen has coach(es) and his team. He doesn't train online, get real. This was a meaningless exhibition. What if Hansen hadn't been online, would Carlsen had pulled out from the So match due to lack of adequate training given to him by Hansen? I think that doesn't even deserve an answer.
"He doesn't train online, get real" Magnus is playing an experienced chess.com blitz player on chess.com for an upcoming chess.com tournament. Of course it's good practise. Playing over the board is one thing, but playing online is entirely different, and playing other strong online blitz players will definitely help him prepare for the upcoming comp. This was obviously a scheduled match, he didn't just randomly challenge Eric or else he wouldn't have had time to set up his recording software and webcam. " would Carlsen had pulled out from the So match due to lack of adequate training given to him by Hansen? That's just a ridiculous straw man, no one said Eric was coaching Magnus. It's practise, maybe a bit of fun light hearted practise, but practise nonetheless. Magnus never uses his chess.com account, seems weird that when he starts advancing in a chess.com tournament he starts playing for fun on that account?
Awesome video. Just wish You guys played +2 increment. The games would've been even more great. You just kept running out of time in interesting positions.
lisa tere Yeah you are right. Its just that every game I felt Eric wont have enough time anyways. So it dampened excitement for me. Magnus was gonna crush him regardless though.
Eric center checkmate game and the last game were absolutely best fun I had in a long time. Thanks for your comments and fantastic games! I proceed to part 3 now
I think Eric said it himself early in these rounds. He's not used to these structure formations. At all. Meaning slower response. This was pretty much obliteration. Got a couple wins in at least and I also think the streaming/broadcasting/ verbally explaining everything like Eric does also takes its toll on response time. With that said, thank you very much Eric for being an extremely humble gentleman that's a proven example of of what it means to be a good sport.
Hi Eric! SLCC should invite you esp. considering a couple tourneys ago they had some newbies that you coulda smoked. Either way epic channel brah & best regards gaining 100 pts. Cheers
Bu Xiangzhi, who has a higher rating than Eric, knocked Carlsen out of the World Chess Cup this year and he's far from being a world contender. The super GMs are on a entirely different level, even from a 2700 player. They're two levels above a 2650 player.
By 35 minutes, Eric's broken. You can see it in his body language and hear it in his comments...the mere shell of the man who started out so full of hope just a short while before.
i thought he was playing the magnus app. then i was just thinking yea this is the way a computer beats you and only later realized its the real Magnus.
I would like to see how Eric plays in a non-blitz game against some of the best players, to bad he is never in one of those tournaments :( I saw that Swedish guy Grandelius in a tournament not long ago, and he is not that much higher ranked then Eric (only ~30 points apart).
49:44 White to move. Does bishop c7 check, king takes knight, bishop e5, check, king moves then bishop takes h8 would have been a good exchange because you're +1 ?
Regardless of how well Ayush would do in a match against Carlsen, Eric did in fact play too weak and too slow and that's why he couldn't win. It's not an insult, just an observation.
It would be even more one sided than this though. I don't really watch Eric but hasn't he said that he doesn't do very well with classical time controls?
I am especially thankful to live in a time like this where content and information is all around. I went to 15 Kyu in Go. This would've taken you classes and bookreading back in the 60's^^
Beating Carlsen 5 times it is just great. Sincere. Is the best in the world. What do you want more .. come on he is a true talent. And also hardworking
Eric is very fun to see you talking and acting like an afraid 8 years old girl (if possible please don't ofend!) when you are usually a loud an confident guy.
I dont understand why carlsen didnt take his pawn with the Queen at 10:32 stead he moved the Knight. The pawn was uncovered. :P Can Simeone explain this to me?
I dont understand why eric and so many others dont do the big tournaments. They dont even bother appearing. Why is that. Eric plays excellent he has some chance of atleast placing.
I'm guessing they aren't invited if you're talking about Altibox. Realistically, Eric and Aman would get smashed playing against Carlsen, MVL, Liren, Anand, Fabi, et al. Sure, they might manage to get a win here or there. Just look at the US championship. The sub 2700 guys just weren't able to complete against Fabi, Naka, Shankland, and Dominguez.
It doesn't get any better than this. It's perfect. No music, just good commentary and your honest, self-deprecating humor up against the World Champion!

you mean Cagnus Marlsen

Man I was watching your Math videos a long time ago and when I saw your comment I sorta remembered my college years
Yeah but Eric is a GM, it's not surprising that another GM is able to beat Magnus Carlsen. It's like saying a top 100 player won a game off Federer.. it's really not that surprising. Nice of you to point out though :)
same Patrick I loved your videos during Calc hahah glad to see you like chess as well :)
Countless thanks for all of your help in Calculus!
Thank you for your contributions Patrick. This comment brought be back to the college days
40:45 "I was seduced by the thought of mating magnus"....that was a pause/rewind moment for sure.
r/nocontext xd
"Crime scene." Best description of a chess position I have heard. Commentary is your calling Eric.
At least Eric can say he checkmated arguably the greatest chess player of all time
liam weinberg that's quite the exclusive club too
Eric IS a grandmaster afterall.... he should win Some games now
Carlsen is a better player than Fischer was. that's not a diss on Fischer, it's just the mere fact that it's been almost 50 years and Carlsen has the advantage of all the new theory that's taken place in that time.
More than most people make of their life
RyanC232 doesn’t matter. Magnus is the reason people want a Super GM title. He’s on another level even against other GM’s. Fabiano and Magnus both are.
"I don't know what to do here...I'll make some moves and hope for the best." Love that line.
25:46 the moment when you win against magnus
Magnus was playing chess while he in middle of war in Afghanistan

It might be little bit too late for Magnus to stay low profile anymore anyway.
These are the types of games we'll be reviewing 50 years from now. Thanks Eric for posting these videos. Like how you split them up in to three parts.
Carlsen is using you as training material for his match with Wesley So, maybe that's why So also wanted to play you
What an absolute rude and stupid comment how do you know that Mr Mindreader ?
to be honest being training material for magnus is a compliment
so what?
Carlsen has coach(es) and his team. He doesn't train online, get real. This was a meaningless exhibition. What if Hansen hadn't been online, would Carlsen had pulled out from the So match due to lack of adequate training given to him by Hansen? I think that doesn't even deserve an answer.

He was in decent positions because he was thinking way more than Magnus. If there is increment, Magnus thinks more and position probably isn't even.
lisa tere Yeah you are right. Its just that every game I felt Eric wont have enough time anyways. So it dampened excitement for me. Magnus was gonna crush him regardless though.
Yeah, I think adding time would benefit Magnus more tbh
no Magnus is really good when time is limited...
Eric center checkmate game and the last game were absolutely best fun I had in a long time. Thanks for your comments and fantastic games! I proceed to part 3 now
" And now I'm being attacked, how did this happen?"
One of my life-goals is to play a chess game against Magnus.
Beerdy - Bruce Lee Central, well, what's your blitz?
Michael Lemontzis mine is 2267 ... can I
I'm only at 2320 not that impressive. But even losing against Magnus would be a treat.
2320 is very impressive!! what are you talking about?
I would really like to play any gm.

Eric how close/far are you from being a world contender? Not just anyone wins games against Magnus.
Appliance Paul Over 100 rating points for sure
Hey Paul! still a long way to go. unfortunately, that is a pretty accurate comment by dipdim. more tournament invitations would be a good start :(

Sergio Ortiz maybe they're on entirely different level _most of the time._

i thought he was playing the magnus app. then i was just thinking yea this is the way a computer beats you and only later realized its the real Magnus.
Magnus is a check mate machine
Great job, Eric. Real chess entertainment I've been waiting for for years! :-)
Coming up next: Carlsen goes on a 13-0 run
Well he did lose at least one game..
Well for sure its true after the wcc
Idk why but watching the game starting 15-4... just the breakdown then Eric muttering: "another crime scene" made me laugh SOOOO hard
These videos are great, until you get to the creepy ending where you just whisper your outro. Straight creepy as fuck.
bruh it's so hilarious when he says "oops"
I've noticed watching these games that Magnus is extremely good at knowing when to punch and when to duck.
Awesome videos. I love your channel and it's really improving my chess as well
I'd pay to see Bobby Fischer in his prime vs Magnus nowadays. What a match or tournament that would be.
Your show is f..... amazing!
I love the constant reminder of how awesome Yasser is😂🍻🍻🍻

Daniel Nicklas V I was looking for someone to make a comment on that

Great games! Enjoyed it. thanks
Awesome stuff, thanks Eric, very instructive!

The perfect chess streaming on RUclips

Good morning brah, a lil chess brah early in the morning brah plus coffee brah. Best way to get your day started brah
If you can set the opponent pieces to move in 0.1 seconds, rather than instantly, you won't miss when your opponent makes a move.
Great content
This isn't Magnus vs Eric, this is Eric vs Eric.
51:25 Carlsen reached 3000
Chess Brah, brah. Drink beer and play duff duff music lol??!!
Erick Hansen se ve como un niño al lado de Carlsen jaja. Hasta la táctica más básica le resulta útil a Carlsen.

Mimerafm It's okay, I worded the first bit poorly so I can see why youd think that. You absolute melt.

It would be even more one sided than this though. I don't really watch Eric but hasn't he said that he doesn't do very well with classical time controls?
What was the final score?
7:09 I swear Eric should have take on b2. Turns out to be a big mistake. Nb3 and the queen is trapped.
That's why Eric didn't capture it then!
1:0:42 queen g6 and check mated? why he didnt do that
at @1:00:42 white is checked every single turn until black resigns
Does eric ever win in this 1 hour of gameplay??
Yes! 25:20
Here also won the last game by resignation
Right on time. Free tutorial. How much would this video have cost if it existed in the '60s, albeit in black and white? I think about stuff like that.

live?
He's just on another level...
In game 1 why does Eric resign? Can't he play another move than Nb4?
18:54 Why not Rxc2?
It is funny how he shows respect for mc...no music no hiki type nicknames
4466svenjohnpetrucci he says in Part 1 that this took him by surprise so he hadn't any music prepared
Aroogant lose agains the champ
Hey guys am i missing something at 40:35 ..? If Bishop e5 is winning queen..?
Jaroslav Capek 1year later and your answer is here
Qxf2+ K move and then u can protect g7 later
Good luck and good videos
Eric is very fun to see you talking and acting like an afraid 8 years old girl (if possible please don't ofend!) when you are usually a loud an confident guy.
What would happen if Eric played g6 at 43:43 ?
I dont understand why carlsen didnt take his pawn with the Queen at 10:32 stead he moved the Knight. The pawn was uncovered. :P Can Simeone explain this to me?
Black queen could capture the knight

13:01 free bishop
Eric go to the chess school for a few years and come back for Magnus Carlsen. What do you say?
Bishop e5 was the winning move at 40:36
yea missed that
I usually play better with music on too
This was painfull to watch
is this the same eric who speedruns to 3000
25:00
you made Carlsen move up to 3000 haha
Omg noo! At 40:36 when he took the b pawn you had bishop e5 to win the queen!
What about QXf2?
actually when eric played Re6 he think the rook sacrifice in h6 but Carlsen did not allowed him
What about Be3 at 39:45 ?
I think Nxe3 and if fxe3 the pawn will dis-connects the queen and rook on the e-file.
@ 18:05 what about Rcb2
but i guess he can play b3 no matter what
him not taking the bishop @ 13:00 was a blunder, right?
10:00 _ Not bad ... _ We wonder why ...
