Thank you for answering my question regarding the beautiful color of blue on your walls! Gorgeous color as well as name. Best gardening channel Erin!
The gift from Bill was amazing. Thanks
I would whole heartedly agree, The Greater Perfection documentary is lovely. The book is a real treat and the gardens, which i was fortunate enough to visit a few years ago, are absolutely amazing. They inspired me to make a real effort in my own Quebec garden.
I just saw your picture in the Proven Winners "The Gardener's Idea Book". So cool and I love your gardening style.
Loved seeing you on an Epic garden video. Congratulations!
Hi Aaron and Laura, love you both. Because of watching you guys I’ve learned so much!!!!but the most important thing is the power planter auger!!!!!!The BEST investment I’ve made for my body. Thanks much.
Love love love seeing Dorothy ❤🎉
We live in Maine (and gah to March and April snowstorms after having very little snow the rest of the winter!) and are heading north to Quebec this late June. Got tix to Le Jardin de Quatre Vents (it was like trying to buy a favored dahlia tuber!), will visit Le Jardin de Metis (maybe the Himalayan blue poppies will be in bloom?) and hope to see some whales (belugas?) on the Saint Lawrence River. We wouldn't be taking this adventure without the postcard project! Thanks to your viewers and you for such interesting and fun content!
Good to see you in an Epic Gardening video!!
Hi Erin. I noticed your in PW The Gardeners Idea Book, today!
Erin, would it make sense to do a future video interviewing a gardener at the Minnesota botanical garden about growing lady slipper orchids? Maybe you could do a video tour of your property to have them suggest the optimal location for trialing such expensive plants. And take us along so we can learn , as well.
Excellent suggestion!
Hi Erin! I agree with the comment "I have become a better gardener because of you" true for me and I'll tell you why. I've been at it for decades on and off through my life so by virtue of that, I know a couple of things about gardening. Even though I may enjoy watching other channels, yours is the one where I really learn the most. Your knowledge and experience is so valuable to us out here in viewing land, and although I do love the Proven Winners plants, lets face it they aren't the beginning or end of the story!! I got into Dahlias two years ago because of your beauties. Last but not least . . . your dry sense of humor cracks me up! Thank-you!!
Hi Erin, please post TONS of videos! These don’t have to be high tech. Whatever you’re doing just turn on your phone and talk to us.
Your tips and inspiration really help.
I’m feeling so overwhelmed and defeated right now with my 1 acre mess of a garden. 😂😂😂😂
I'm with you on not using petunias.😃
I'm also tired of gardeners trying to replicate Proven Winners' display gardens. I appreciate that you show so much diversity in your garden beds using both native plants and more cultivated species.
Hi Erin…I love your knowledge and garden style. Thanks for sharing!
What I love about your videos is the common sense gardening advice you give and how entertaining you are. I wait patiently for your videos. Thank you from Montana.
ERIN! I'm in Chicago burbs - your zone (now) and Snail Vine went fabulous for me. I grew 2 (started inside) and was flowering like crazy sometime in July. It was an experiment for me and was a huge success. Super pretty and the SCENT - omg.
Nicked seed & soaked a bit on MARCH 27, 2023. If you plan to overwinter them inside, I suggest keeping in a pot. Shocking tree like root system. I brought one in and it's doing fantastic. I'm actually neglecting it really.
Hey, Erin! So glad you got the postcards and that you're enjoying the salve. Here's hoping that MN and WI both have a glorious garden season ahead! Thanks for always taking us along. Enjoy the Hollyhocks! ❤🌿
Thank you so much Bill! (Seriously that salve is amazing).
The salve sounds wonderful. Is it available for sale anywhere?
@TheImpatientGardener you're very welcome, Erin! So glad you are enjoying it. It was a favorite project last season for sure. Thinking about making some Aloe Vera gel this Spring from my houseplants. Thanks again for all you share! ❤️🌿😉
@marybeth4002 thanks. It was a personal project. Just a small batch of 16, 4oz tins. All were given away to friends and family this Christmas- and Erin got the last one. 😊
@@billkruckman Aw Bill, now it’s even more special!
Have you seen orange bumblebees in your area before? Really interesting. That is a lot of work for Paul shoveling the mulch so far. Paths are nice but make for extra work when you can’t drive on them.
Love your chairs
I think I commented last year when you first started your postcard collection and ask for our garden bucket list. I had just seen The Gardener on Amazon, which documented the development of Frank Cabot's garden in Quebec. I watched it in segments because there was so much there. Its quite meditative in nature and while each of the gardens are diverse, they just flow harmoniously together. When he was inspired during travel to build a Japanese garden, he found someone from Japan living in the Bay Area who would build the tea house in the traditional way, with the proper wood aged in the traditional manner.
Northern Illinois here. The tree expert at my local nursery steers people away from Japanese maples because they fry in full sun here and are often finnicky through winter. Another guy told me they avoid ornamental plums because they are so prone to disease. Newer varities of crabapples and serviceberries are where it's at.
Getting caught up with your videos ❤❤❤
I think the documentary is called ‘The Gardener’ but it’s about the guy from the book
Frank Cabot.... I think
So nice to see your smiling face this morning. I am fogged in ,zone 4b central VT, patiently(🤣😂) waiting for our 2 ft snow storm to go away!!!
Thanks for the video 😊
Thank you for being you, too!
Always learning from you! Thank you
Thanks for the feedback on the downtown planters! I also find they are rarely as nice as they could be. I’m hoping I can “help out” in my town this year. 🤞Unfortunately the upkeep is the biggest issue. I like your idea of keeping them simple but bold. I’m going for high impact but easy care. Now thinking maybe a PW Rockin’ Fuchsia center with one color of super bells around it. Maybe change up the Superbells color every other pot? Thanks again!!
“Proverbial shelves” 😂 loved it. Wish I hadn’t already invested in the heavy duty epic trays…might try yours anyway…I love the idea. Makes total sense about the dahlias…I don’t have a truly cold place to store them so I’ve been noticing some wispy shoots. Time to get them potted (soon).
I love you Erin! 🥰♥️ You are such a joy to watch. I’m far western Wisconsin, but your knowledge still applies in so many aspects of my gardening. I have a veggie garden and I also flower garden. Trying to transition to mostly perennials in my different flower garden areas. Happy gardening to you this season ☺️
What a beautiful letter from Bill! That sounds like a dream trip to me to Joshua Tree and surrounding areas. And so nice of him to send that homemade salve!
We are local to Phipps in Pittsburgh. I love it!
Thanks Bill, sharing your experience at Joshua Tree.
I heard you have answered other gardeners questions about deer invasions. I have about 30 that pass through my land twice a day and they love to stop and eat at my garden buffet. They love my hostas so much. I have sprayed them with Deer Stop, used granualls that are supposed to work. Nothing will stop them. Can you let my lnow which video you talked about your solutions. Thanks! Frustrated in Zone 4. Happy gardening! 🦋🌸🌷🥀🐝
I have geothermal and its not all its cracked up to be, lots of maintenance. Good luck to your neighbor! Love your style and informational video's!
Loved hearing all the happy mail.
What a great video! Much needed here in 5a Iowa. You are so relatable and I just love your approach and attitude. My goal is to get you a postcard this year! Keep ‘em coming!!!
Great update!!! It was so good to see Big Beautiful D!!!! Vacation agreed with you, you are glowing and look fab!!!! (10 years younger) I need one or two or 20 of those vacations LOL.
Love this format! Sorry about the late snow, it missed us by a hair. 😅
Hello Erin ! What an awesome video ! I’m with you as well on the town, city, planters ! Where I live near Buffalo NY we have such a nostalgic and vintage downtown area , but the planters are hideous 😢, I’d Love to someday be a part of a garden club that takes care of them, 😊Thanks for all you do ❤
Will have to add the weeds only grow in bad soil idea to the correlation is not causation column. :)
Just direct sow Dara. That’s all you need to do. Then it will reseed and you can move the plants as you like.
Nice to hearing and seeing you. I’m personally so done with this winter weather, so want double digits. Thanks for sharing with us.👍❤️🙂
Love the indoor plant spotlight! Do you get a lot of spider mites between your ivy and the stromanthe triostar? I think both might be spider mite magnets.
Ice Follies, how appropriate. I'm trying the purple bell vine, sowed them on March 9th, 2 germinated. My motto...if I just get one, that gets me free seeds. Wondered your thoughts on using raised garden bed soil in containers for flowers.? Thinking if it already has a fertilizer added, there should be less worry about doing that over summer. Hope you have a wonderful Easter weekend.
I was just in Pittsburgh to visit my daughter who now lives there. We went to Phipps during their orchid show, WOW! It's stunning.
Was in Madeira (Portugal) in February and tried in vain to find a postcard of the Monte Tropical Garden. Lovely, historic garden in captial city Funchal. Embraces variety of garden styles, especially Chinese and Japanese, in historic, naturalistic setting. Lovely and interesting.
Love whenever I see you! You are soooo informative and fun to watch👍❤️
I love Q&A videos! Two questions bouncing around in my head as I begin Spring work in my own garden. 1. I recently purchased two clump (multi-stem? multi-trunk? not sure correct terminology) Eastern Redbud trees. When/how should I prune/shape the trunks to ensure best appearance and success? My trees have numerous trunks and it seems obvious some should be removed, but I'm afraid I'll ruin these trees! I have same problem with Jane Magnolia. Is there a minimum/maximum of trunks that is "correct?" 2. I have pretty serious deer pressure too and I've been wondering if planting herbs among all the other plants would be a good deterrent. Do you have any thoughts about that? I had my eye on a rosemary plant (mature 2-3' H) and it got me thinking....how many, what kinds of herbs, how to plant (in ground vs pots), etc. Most would be annuals in my zone 6b. I quickly became overwhelmed, shrugged, and walked away.
Love the postcard project! I love seeing the places and gardens that others have enjoyed.
Plant Delights Nursery is wonderful, but I too found it a bit pricey.
Thank you Erin. Enjoyed very much. Happy spring.
Great video,I always enjoy watching. Thanks
You’re an amazing person😊❤
Had many different Japanese maples on my last property on Long Island that had been planted before I moved in, and there was never a problem with any one of them. Went through polar vortex, and many a Nor'ester.
I love your black botanical Prince in your kitchen. So striking.
Thank you! I got them on Etsy many years ago. Unfortunately they are starting to fade pretty badly.
Yup! I’m a “no petunias in my garden” gardener now also! Can’t be fussed to fight the bud worms, when there’s so many other pretty plants that don’t require much from me, but provide color in my garden.
Deer are my biggest enemy! On your recommendation I’ve been using Deer Stopper II. Do you find that it “bleaches” the color out of flowers?
I don't know if it's just me, but whatever you're doing, keep doing, you look 🌺GREAT! (Not that you didn't before either, but I can tell something is going on. 😉) Thanks for the Q&A, too, it's always helpful!
I have Lady Slippers growing in my garden. Where here when I moved in. They also grow wild in the ditches here. You can’t pick them.
OMG! I'm with you on the in-town planters - what the heck are some folks thinking? Don't choose anything that needs regular dead-heading. Here in zone 7b, Dwarf Calla lilies can take a ton of sun and bloom like crazy. This year, I'm going to use Crocosmia as my center-wow plant; they're tall-ish (depending on cultivar,) colorful, and architectural. I still have to decide on the drape-y surrounding plants. I love Pentas, and while they need some occasional pinching, they need consistent watering. It gets blistering hot and humid here. Thanks for all the Q+A - delightful!
Hi Erin, I was surprised to hear there is a nursery selling lady slippers! They grow wild in wooded areas here in New Brunswick Canada and are endangered. We’re not supposed to pick them. I’ve heard it’s illegal, not sure if that’s true. The deer don’t bother them in the woods here so I think they’d be safe in your yard.
I'm due north in 4a and love your channel.
Thank you!
Great to see a new video from you. Wondering if you took any cuttings from your fatshedera to multiply it and then use them in different places in your garden?
Have you ever used soil blocking method for starting seeds. I am trying to decide if I like it or not.
I have the same issue with the terrestrial slipper orchids. I keep seeing them wanting them in my garden but that sticker shock for 1 plant…haven’t been able to pull the trigger. 😂
Hi Erin, you have convinced me to try Geranium Macrorhizum, and they are thriving under my very mature oaks. I did notice some of the stems are very woody and if you aren’t careful, they will break off easily. Can you address if these can be rooted (I am trying it, but I doubt it will do so at the moment. I am in Z6, NY) or if they are actually meant to be under ground level. It seems this plant has a lot of thick flexible stems. I feel I will hurt them quite easily.
Hi Erin-. Question: Like you, I’m growing Mahogany Splendor hibiscus from seed. Mine too germinated in 2 days and they are thriving. However, the leaves look nothing like the photos. They are greener (not unexpected due to the lack of direct sunlight) but more troubling the shape is entirely different from the pictures. They are supposed to have narrow and feathery lobes, aren’t they? Mine have fairly broad leaves with serrated edges, no pronounced lobes. Do I just need to be patient? Will sunlight cure this deformity? I have many sets of true leaves and they are not what I was expecting.
Oh you make me laugh girl! Love your sense of humor and garden 💚💚💚
Must have been Bruce Company. I have some bad luck with them.
No, it wasn’t.
I started nicotiana antique lime seeds on March 12- while most have germinated they are teeny tiny and not growing much- pkg from Swallowtail says 10-20 days, is this normal?
Thx Janet
Oh Nooooo! Erin, did you lose my postcards from Naples Botanical Garden??😩😩😩😩. Maybe Mr. Much more patient did😉😉. Maybe next time🥰🥰🥰. Love your videos, Erin.
What to do about sapsucker birds pecking on Dogwood and Red bud trees.
Can we plant lilly bulbs in 5b now?
I have a Cornus kousa 'Summer Gold’ for about five years or so. It’s 6-7’ and doesn’t bloom, do you have any suggestions?
I don’t see link to seed trays?
Have you lost weight? You look really great!
Thank you for these awesome Q&A's!
Hi Aaron and Laura, love you both. Because of watching you guys I’ve learned so much!!!!but the most important thing is the power planter auger!!!!!!The BEST investment I’ve made for my body. Thanks much.
