Cassius Marcellus Clay is an absolute badass. The fact that he isn’t talked about more is criminal. Then again, I don’t think Cassius himself would’ve given a shit. Lmao
Except there is no way in hell Cassius Clay was gonna limit his home defense strategy to something as indecisive and temperamental as a _musket._ He defaults to CANNON.
He doesn't mention it but Henry Clay, his lawyer cousin, was also arguable the most important politician in American history to not be president: appointed to the Senate at 29( he impressed people so much that they just ignored the age limit in the Constitution), 2nd youngest Speaker of the House ever at 34, de facto leader of the Whig Party for pretty much its entire existence, including his visceral rivalry with Andrew Jackson, including the so-called Corrupt Bargain where he became Secretary of State when the 1824 Election got thrown to the House which probably wasn't any kind of formal deal(Clay and Andrew Jackson despised each other.) Oh and he also is known as the Great Compromiser because of his skill at manuevering the fractious antebellum politics of slavery and the 3 compromises he made on slavery(the 1820 Missouri Compromise, Compromise of 1850, and the Kansas-Nebraska Act which was a disaster.) This side of his family explains a lot about how he got that good at it.
It's seemingly unintentional, and that makes it hilarious, that Henry Clay never lost a court case in 40 years and looks a lot like Manfred Von Karma, a fictional lawyer that never lost a case in his career.
The fat electrician vid on Aimo Koivunen "winter war soldier od's on meth" is a fantastic one too. Love his style and is a very good story (obv cause finland gotta represent)
I'm so happy you guys are reacting to The Fat Electrician's content. He makes _really_ good videos on a variety of interesting historical topics, so there's no shortage of things to talk about and poke fun at.
i would like to also point out that Cassius Clay didnt die until 1903. he was alive when Abraham Lincoln did his stuff, and died 11 years before the 1st world war and 4 years before the Triple Entente (a major treaty that filled the powder keg that was world war 1). ive heard people think its been a long time since the emancipation proclamation was signed into effect. In reality, it wasnt that long ago.
People think it's been a long time since ww2 hell im young it feels like history I only hear about it from people who weren't alive when it happened all second hand
What I like about Fat Electrician (TFE) is that, he just doesn't care if you react to his videos. He actually loves that! By the way, his "MailCat" video is just awesome!
27:42 eeh, i wouldnt say that Clay did MORE than Lincoln. I mean, someone could just as easily argue that Ulysses Grant did more than either. Its better to say that they all did their share
Lincoln wanted to end slavery, But he wasn't an abolitionist. He thought it would be more beneficial to the country to end it flower over time, Rather than just outlaw it and abolish it outright from the beginning. He was more focused on preventing the spread of slavery rather than freeing all slaves.Immediately and believed that slavery would eventually die out on its own. And he was correct. Slavery could not have survived without spreading to future states. Which is the real reason why the south started the Is civil war. Because they knew the north wouldn't allow slavery to spread
Every Fat Electrician video makes you ask the same question: Why is there no movie about this? History aside, these are great stories that would completely translate to film.
19:15 The Mason-Dixon Line and Ohio River determine the Antebellum South (Kentucky is in), the states that seceded determine “Dixie” (Kentucky is out) and the ability to provoke a fistfight about barbecue styles determines whether you’re in the south today (which… mileage may vary but I’m sure you can be willing to find a Kentuckian willing to put ‘em up in defense of BBQ Mutton).
technically Kentucky IS in the south. the demarcation line is the ' Mason Dixon ' line, which is the southern border of PA and northern border of Maryland.
You should definitely watch The Fat Electrician(TFE) video The Real Tank Genius of WW2 Percy “Hobo” Hobart or Wrecking & Trolling The Germans With A Wooden Plane- DH-98 Mosquito.
Lincoln didn’t really care about the slaves really what he really cared about was to keep the US together and not split. He never said anything during his election that he said wouldn’t take their slaves but he did say he would limit the spread of slavery and let it die over time
Yes! That's exactly what he is doing. He is putting out the History they don't want you to know. Highly suggest Virginia Hall aka the Limping Lady, S.Sgt Reckless hero of the Korean War and a much loved Marine and Hobert Funnies or the one about the wooden plane called Mosquito. Or the Ramage Rambage....lol any or all of them actually 😅
One thing I’ve noticed after watching this video several times is that Fat Electrician has told the order of events wrong, likely on purpose for storytelling. The first assassination attempt happened before Clay was in office for instance.
Danville VA here my brother. Good video guys. I still consider Richmond down and the west side mountains to be real VA and southern and the lower DC up north which is sad. DC spreads like herpes.
I think the fact Kentucky did not join the Confederacy is why people don't consider it the 'South.' Like Deleware and Maryland, which were also border slave states.
Is it possible these other two could look any more disinterested in doing any of this.....personality anyone?? It's like they're not on a RUclips channel, but a camera on in a living room of someone who doesn't want it there!
Agreed… odd to make a “reaction” video where you just sit there motionless (AND emotionless) barely making a sound. Probably not gonna return to watch anymore from this channel, might give em another chance and watch one more video first but my expectations are low lol.
Technically the Emancipation Proclamation freed zero slaves, as it exempted the slaves in the states that did not secede, and Lincoln had no authority to free the Confederate slaves.
Gosh. The girl and the guy with the glasses look absolutely unhappy. Don't look to happy to be there. Hopefully it's not the case. Hope everyone feeling okay.
Technically when it comes to self defense, You only have the right to defend yourself to the point where There is no longer an eminent threat to your life. If someone tries to stab you and you shoot them, If they are on the ground no longer trying to kill you, Anything you do after that point is no longer self defense.
The reason a lot of southerners don't consider Kentucky a part of the true.South is because they chose to stay with the union during the civil war. Is up same with west virginia
I don't care what others think, Kentucky is in the south we're the upper south on the border line of the north and south but the south none the less people need to actually learn something in school smh
First time watching your channel, because you are reacting to the Fat Electrician, but it would be more enjoyable as a reaction if it wasn't for two statues right next to you. Like... seriously?
3:56 Actually, Lincoln always hated blacks. He only wrote the Emancipation Proclamation as a political move. He was never going to "lose support" from the South because they already saw him as a despot because he was taxing them out the ass which brought upon the Civil War (no taxation without representation), they despised Lincoln because he was almost a dictator in the country. Lincoln himself said: "I am not, nor ever have been, in favor of bringing about in any way the social and political equality of the white and black races ... nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with white people; and I will say in addition to this that there is a physical difference between the white and black races which I believe will forever forbid the two races from living together on terms of social and political equality. And inasmuch as they cannot so live, while they do remain together there must be a position of superior and inferior, and I as much as any other man am in favor of having the superior position assigned to the white race." Your great emancipator, ladies and gentlemen and the man Democrats look up to.
22:20 No, the "blockade around the South to keep the South from selling their goods and getting goods from foreign powers" isn't the point of it. The South was the main producer of crops and other goods which were sold to the North, but also exported to other countries. Grains, sugar, crops, etc. The North put the embargo on the South and was pretty much starving them of money, which they were already being taxed out the ass on their exports beforehand. Some foreign countries depended on these exports to LIVE in some cases regardless of the sway Clay had.
Yes courts were strange back then, but with some defense excuses today are just as weird. The twinkie defense, violence on tv made me do it, one woman said pms made her kill her husband and she was found innocent! Another claimed a smell of some chemical (cant remember what it was) made him crazy. Innocent! So ya, i actually think todays courts arent that different.
As a Native American from descends from the Nation and Tribe who's Algonquin language named the Appalachian Montains which translate to "Hills that go on" or "Hills with no end" depending on the dialect... All yall in Appalachia absolutely say it wrong... respectfully. P.S. Google has it all the way wrong...
The persians only beat the greeks At the battle of Thermopolae Because the Persians had discovered an ancient goat trail that led to the top of the cliffs. And were able to position their archers to take out the greek and spartan forces. There was a very good chance that had that not happened. The Greeks would have been able slowly.Take out the persian forces over time.
To me (a non-American) the South roughly corresponds to states that were part of the former Confederacy, so Virginia is part of the South because they seceded. Also the South, to me, is connected to hardcore fundamentalist Christian conservatism and deeply connected to one party (either the Democrats from the 1832-1964 and the GOP, for the most part, ever since 1968).
This was a good video I love fat electrician however the emancipation proclamation is not a law it didn't free anyone a proclamation is giving is giving a speech fact of the matter is that the 13th, 14th amendment made everone slave's

Cassius Marcellus Clay is an absolute badass. The fact that he isn’t talked about more is criminal. Then again, I don’t think Cassius himself would’ve given a shit. Lmao
Being from Kentucky myself, I was certainly exposed to quite a bit of Cassius Clay history. Our school toured the Whitehall mansion.
I'm so happy you guys are finally checking out Fat Electrician, you guys have to watch more in the future.
I second that
I third that
I fourth that.
You joke about the "as the founding fathers intended" copypasta, but Cassius Clay is where it actually comes from.
He is literally the meme 🤣
Except there is no way in hell Cassius Clay was gonna limit his home defense strategy to something as indecisive and temperamental as a _musket._ He defaults to CANNON.

Appreciate the info brotha 💯
That’s really cool. Thanks for sharing ❤
The man died at 92 in 1903. That in and of itself is just ridiculous. Especially given the life he lived.
TFE: "You can't stop someone from talking to people who want to hear them."
Social and Traditional Media: "Hold my beer."
I fully believe that Cassius was the inspiration for the home defense musket meme with that home invasion story.
It's seemingly unintentional, and that makes it hilarious, that Henry Clay never lost a court case in 40 years and looks a lot like Manfred Von Karma, a fictional lawyer that never lost a case in his career.
The whole Clay family is built differently I guess 🦾🧠
The fat electrician vid on Aimo Koivunen "winter war soldier od's on meth" is a fantastic one too. Love his style and is a very good story (obv cause finland gotta represent)

My favorite video he did is on the toys for tots

hell im young it feels like history I only hear about it from people who weren't alive when it happened all second hand
As the saying goes, "beware an old man in a land where men die young"
That changes up history a lot, I didn’t know or was informed of him
What I like about Fat Electrician (TFE) is that, he just doesn't care if you react to his videos. He actually loves that!
By the way, his "MailCat" video is just awesome!
Can't forget about the ghost of bataan also a really good one in my opinion.
27:42 eeh, i wouldnt say that Clay did MORE than Lincoln. I mean, someone could just as easily argue that Ulysses Grant did more than either.
Its better to say that they all did their share
I’m guessing that Cassius didn’t read the book of Philemon.

You've seen the most gangster politician now it's time for the most gangster marine, and the most gangster old man.
How is this not a movie?!
Every Fat Electrician video makes you ask the same question: Why is there no movie about this? History aside, these are great stories that would completely translate to film.

Can’t explain the excitement when I saw you guys finally checked out TFE
technically Kentucky IS in the south. the demarcation line is the ' Mason Dixon ' line, which is the southern border of PA and northern border of Maryland.
I love TFE's style of storytelling, he also has another channel, The Fat Files with only 3 videos so far but well worth a watch
I really hope you guys do more reactions to the fat electrician
White Hall is a state historical site that you can visit. When you know this mans history visiting his home is awe inspiring
You should definitely watch The Fat Electrician(TFE) video The Real Tank Genius of WW2 Percy “Hobo” Hobart or Wrecking & Trolling The Germans With A Wooden Plane- DH-98 Mosquito.
I love that you guys are finally checking out Nick(The Fat Electrician) His videos are amazing quality
As someone who has lived in the Appalachian trail area my whole life. You do say it wrong. Kisses from PA lol
Kentucky seems more southern than Midwestern to me… coming from a Hoosier for what it’s worth. (Indiana)
Didn’t Russia recently try to say that the purchase of Alaska was illegal?
FINALLY YOU'RE REACTING TO FAT ELECTRICIAN
I'm proud of this man. I'm a Kentuckian. He stood up and d3fended what he believed in... with a gun. AND FOR THE RIGHT REASONS.
And Biden says that you couldn't own a cannon back then.😂
Lincoln didn’t really care about the slaves really what he really cared about was to keep the US together and not split. He never said anything during his election that he said wouldn’t take their slaves but he did say he would limit the spread of slavery and let it die over time
I think that’s a very simplistic view of it…
