@Adam A. The more I think about it, Andrew is probably the very first teacher I have heard the unadulterated pure Grace Message taught Praise God. And I am in my seventies!
1 JOHN 1;9 GREEK homologeo means to approve, approval ,see the same way ,probate. So i think the meaning here is be in agreement, in harmony with God concerning sins or .... Jesus, ,acknowledgeth .Surely not ask forgiveness to be forgive . Same word we see in Romans 10,9 nearly same in phillipians 2,11 ,hebrew 13,15 thank you Andrew
I would make only one distinction. Forgiveness doesn't require an apology; Andrew is exactly right. But forgiveness DOES require a confession. Even God doesn't forgive everyone on planet earth -- He only forgives those who believe and confess. Our confession of Jesus is permanent, and so is our forgiveness. Our forgiveness of others ALSO requires a confession. A confession is not an apology; a confession is an admission. If I hit Bill's car in the parking lot, then I need to confess to Bill, "I'm the one who hit your car." It may be nicer to say, "I'm sorry I hit your car," but it isn't more of a confession because it includes an apology. On the other hand, it ISN'T a confession if I tell Jack, "I hit Bill's car and I feel really bad about it." We are supposed to confess to the ones we've offended -- which is why the bible says to confess our sins to one another. These are sins AGAINST one another. Making a choice not to hold someone's offenses against them ISN'T forgiveness. Forgiveness is something given away, not something kept. People like to say, "forgiveness is to release ME, not the person who sinned against me." That may sound spiritual if you don't think about it, but it is really stupid. When God forgave our sins is was to let US off the hook for our sin debt, not to let God off the hook. We don't need to keep confessing to Jesus, because we've already confessed Jesus. We don't need to keep apologizing just because we fail at times. Everyone does. It would be like a student apologizing to the teacher for each mistake he makes on his homework. Thinking we have to apologize to God for every sin -- even when it is already forgiven and forgotten -- is like apologizing for not yet being perfectly spiritually mature.
This message is a mess I cent even tolerate 5 minutes of it. Dont pick and chose and remix verses and try to explain away context to preach we don't need to continually come to Jesus and continue to confess our sins and access salvation and turn back toward Jesus. The Lords prayer was Jesus teaching how to pray and here u are trying to convince ppl he wasn't telling them to ask for forgiveness. What is the purpose of this teaching? Really?
God the Father has forgiven the person with true belief as he knows our hearts, but Jesus will judge our offences and we need his forgiveness for salvation.
You are a child of God ❤️🙏
