    When an Instant Pot is being used to slow cook, Less = Keep warm for a crockpot, Normal = Low for a crockpot, and More = High for a crockpot. Make sure that the vent stays in the open position.

    • @Pythonaria
      @Pythonaria Год назад

      @@TheJoshtheboss Really good. Better than my dedicated slow cooker. I cooked a joint of beef in it and it came out so tender you wouldn't need teeth. It literally was melt in your mouth and tasted superb. That was a relatively cheap cut of meat from the supermarket. If you haven't got one, get one. Saves so much time and money and if you're working, you can set the timer so your meal is ready for when you get home. Great on a cold winter's night. I really wouldn't be without mine.

    • @TheJoshtheboss
      @TheJoshtheboss Год назад +1

      @@Pythonaria I just got one, mainly for pressure cooking. But found out it can do slow cook too. I never really did slow cooking before. But wanna give it a go.
      I was worried though as many on RUclips and blogs say that slow cooking on IP is really bad. That the temp is just too low and results too watery.
      Do you use the glass lid or IP lid set to venting?..

    • @Pythonaria
      @Pythonaria Год назад +1

      @@TheJoshtheboss I don't have a glass lid. Been meaning to get one but haven't got round to it yet. I just use the IP lid with the vent open.
      Here is the recipe I use for brisket and any other joint of meat. Works with them all.
      ruclips.net/video/9EfkwtZD2fM/видео.html
      I can't understand how some commenters have said it is runny. They must be referring to the gravy. You need to thicken gravy with cornflour (I'm in the UK), cornstarch to my friends across the pond to your liken. With this recipe I've given you, I prefer to take out the onions and carrots and serve them with the meal. You could use a stick blender if you want. I put the IP on slow cook for 4 1/2 - 5 hours depending on the size of the meat. I don't go by weight but when I buy a piece of meat, I look at it and think "Yep. That'll fit the IP nicely". I'm very familiar with pressure cookers as I've been using them since I was 18, nearly 50 years. My son bought me the IP just over two years ago for Mother's Day. Best gift I've ever been given.
      Things I've made in mine:
      Yogurt
      Creme Brulee
      Boiled eggs
      Dulce de Leche
      Pineapple Upside Down Cake
      I want to try making a cheesecake in mine but will have to get a cake tin that fits inside it first.
      My go-to channel for when I want inspiration is Pressure Luck Cooking. I've never yet had a failure with Jeff's recipes.
      I make up some recipes of my own too and once my kitchen is refurbished (I had a water leak), I will probably put some on my channel - channel is called Pythonaria. Since I got the IP, I hardly ever use the stove top.
      The IPs are so versatile. The only thing I would warn against is if you make mac cheese in them, the sauce does catch a bit on the bottom and the pan needs a good soak overnight and a good bit of elbow grease to get it nice and shiny again. Another thing I would say to get is Pot in Pot inserts. They are so useful.

    I have an 8 qt slow cooker that my sister gifted me for Christmas one year. I put it on marketplace to sell after seeing a video on how they bust open. I have three kids and a baby on the way, this really scared me using it as a pressure cooker. I was already shopping for a slow cooker. Had no idea I could use an instant pot as a slow cooker. I really needed a slow cooker for easy post partum, newborn stage meals ❤

    Just a helpful FYI you do not need to use the lid that came with the instapot any glass lid in your kitchen that will fit works just as well and that way you can fill the pot up all the way and not worry about boil over if you had to use the pressure lid. Also you can use a slow cooker liner as long as the only thing you do is slow cook even on high temp cuz let's be honest that pot is a pain in the you know what to clean

    I want to slow cook some chili how long do I do that on the slow cooker mode how do I do it and does the valve need to be sealed or not sealed??

    • @TheGingerOptimist
      @TheGingerOptimist  5 лет назад +2

      amber manley thanks so much for watching my friend. The first thing you’re going to want to do is sauté your ground beef and drain the fat out. If you are using a very low fat ground sirloin or something like that you may want to put like a tablespoon of grapeseed oil in before sautéing the meat but if it’s regular ground beef you don’t need that. Now add all the other ingredients and stir. Put the lid on but do not seal the valve. Set the timer for how long you would Cook your chili in a crockpot. Probably 3 or 4 hours. I would check it after two hours just to be on the safe side. I hope this helps. Would love to hear how it turns out. 💕

      amber manley You might want to sauté your onions with the ground beef if you add onions to your chili. It’s totally up to you.

    Three hours is nowhere near long enough for chunks of meat that size.

      @Helen Weatherby, thank you for watching my video. I don't know if you noticed but after searing the meat on all sides, I cooked it on high. The meat was done but it was not very tender. Another hour would have been much better.

    • @TheGingerOptimist
      @TheGingerOptimist  4 года назад

      It may have looked dry, but it really wasn't. The only thing I would do different is cook it longer so that it would be more tender. Thanks so much for watching! :)

    Feature doesn’t work for shit. Don’t bother, you’ll only have to throw it all out after hours of just sitting there.

      So sorry this didn't work for you. I've used it as a slow cooker, but I much prefer to use it as a "quick" cooker. Thanks for watching! Hope you have a happy new year!!

    You are supposed to use a glass lid when slow cooking. If you are not going to use it correctly please do not give a demonstration .

    • @PeggyNapier

      Why does it have to be a glass lid when slow cooking and does it really matter that much?

    • @TheGingerOptimist
      @TheGingerOptimist  4 года назад +1

      Peggy Napier that is a great question. I did more research and you really do not have to use a glass lid you’re welcome to but you can actually do as I did and use the lid that came with the pot. If you read in your manual that came with instant pot at least my manual said you can do either. Thank you so much for watching my video friend. Blessings! ❤️

      starlite556 Hey my friend I went back and did some research and in the book that came with my instant pot it actually said you can use a tempered glass lid or the instant pot lid. Hope you have a great day! Blessings.

      I had a comment here stating so. The official instant pot RUclips channel shows only using the lid, with the vent open of course. The glass lid is an add on for convenience if wanted.
