Forza Italia! Forza Milan! He'd have been a decent signing for Milan. But while he's good and elegant on the football which is reminiscent of the great Paolo Maldini, I feel he has this continental mindset, having played in Switzerland, that makes the idea of coming to England an attractive prospect for him. And for that, I'm immensely grateful and excited he'll be coming to Arsenal. It's not often we get to see an Italian defender in the EPL. I can only readily recall Christian Panucci who played briefly for Chelsea in the early 2000s. And then, of course, Marco Materrazi's stint with Everton. The rest have been attackers and they aren't much-just a handful actually. As a matter of fact, they were in the twilight of their careers when they came to England. But then, the EPL wasn't this big back then. The Italian Serie A was the number-one league back then. When I look at how mid-table teams like Brighton, Wolverhampton, or Fulham can spend so much to bring in a top player from Portugal, France or Latin America, it just brings up memories of how it used to be in the Serie A back then. You'd see mid-table teams like Parma, Sampdoria, Udinese or Fiorentina being the places younger top players from outside Italy can find spots to play. Take for example, Crespo, Thuram and Cannavaro were team mates in Parma before they finally made the step up to the top teams like Juventus, Milan, etc

Calafiori was consistently good for Bologna last season, he was one of their best players with Zirkzee and one of the reasons why Bologna qualified for the UCL. He was in the Italy squad and set up for a reason.

We have Timber who is amongst some of the best young defenders in world football. We have Declan Rice one of the best defensive midfielders in world football. Now we are getting Calafiori one of Italy's own emerging defensive superstars to add on to that. That is SCARY. Califiori steps in midfield from CB to create that overload similar to how we do it with our fullbacks. He’ll play LB and step in. Was superb against my Atalanta both times this season and took 6 points off us. Great young signing!

I am Swiss and FC Basel fan. Calafiori played for us for a year, before he moved to Bologna. To be honest, he never struck me as a stand out player, that has the quality to play for somebody like Arsenal. I think bologna suits him and he cant go much above that. However, i havent seen him play for Bologna and maybe he developed since then.
its not just about current playing form, its the potential under great coaching. With the coaching staff at Arsenal right now i have alot of faith and have proven their worth with many players now. Excited for every player we bring in :)

arsenal have excellent defensive depth - lots of tall people that can play multiple positions along the back. Timber will be available for them this year also.
I expect a Serie A team to sign Kiwior, with prior interest from Milan, so if this is a like for like replacement then I'd be more than happy. Might even take him as a replacement for Zinchenko, with Timber returning we might not need a first team ready LB. Either way, I think one defender goes for us to bring him in

No Mark, you had never heard of him before the Euros. It doesn't mean Arsenal weren't scouting him before. 2 scouts have been regularly seen at Bologna's games in the second half of the season. They're not going on the hype here, they've done their homework
People thought we were only looking at Zirkzee. Calafiori is a great signing and the fact rival fans are getting mad about the signing shows it's a serious bit of business. Backline of Calafiori, Big Gabi, Wilo and White is hands down the best in the league. We just need that left hand side in midfield sorted and I think Mikel has the best squad he'll ever get. No more excuses.
If you see Bologna play and their game system under Motta you realize why Calafiori is a good fit for Arsenal and it is most likely that Mikel wants to do the same thing he did with Ben White but with Calafiori on the left.

I expect a Serie A team to sign Kiwior, with prior interest from Milan, so if this is a like for like replacement then I'd be more than happy. No Mark, you had never heard of him before the Euros. It doesn't mean Arsenal weren't scouting him before. 2 scouts have been regularly seen at Bologna's games in the second half of the season. They're not going on the hype here, they've done their homework

Calafiori is a great signing and the fact rival fans are getting mad about the signing shows it's a serious bit of business.
Backline of Calafiori, Big Gabi, Wilo and White is hands down the best in the league. We just need that left hand side in midfield sorted and I think Mikel has the best squad he'll ever get. No more excuses.
