- At the time of this filming, the Dodge Van was already 9 model years old. It was a very tried and true design and lasted into the 2000 decade.

Ha the note about the poor sound quality cracked me up. People mad about free content.
I emotionally can’t handle it
@@jeffscomp Need therapy. Maybe this video "identifies" as having good sound quality?
Sincere thanks for capturing the memories and value these early Dodge Van's offered.
Best looking van in its day... still are
Thank you for all the work you put in to bring this content to us. Without your efforts this automobile history would be lost forever. Great job as always!
I agree!
For a vintage and valuable video such as this, sound quality is good enough. I don't see why someone should complain about this.
Trust me, despite how hard I work to save film, the haters and complainers are out there......It's never good enough
They even will "thumbs down" a video....which to me is insane and not what the thumbs up or thumbs down clip icons are for.
@@OsbornTramain Never mind about those boggers. Actually, there are plenty of people who are really grateful for your hard work. The others? They hardly count to be taken seriously. Keep those videos coming 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Forget the haters. It sounds right for the age of the film!
@@OsbornTramain very glad you take the time to save and share these videos 👍

I member the rust holes in my father's Dodge van and you can see the road underneath. That was fun when your are a kid.
My godfather had one of these when I was a kid back in the early 90s. He used it for his siding business. I remember riding in the back of it. I haven’t seen one on the road in a really long time.
My mentor had a slant 6 109” wheelbase window van. Super reliable. So easy to service
The revised rear tail-lamps. Just before the major redesign. Also last year for the 440 V8. We had one. Then in 1980 we bought a leftover new, with the redesign, 1979. Best version. 🐶🐶🐶
I drive a 1984 Dodge B150 Slant 6 four speed manual cargo van as my daily driver. I've got some other vintage cars but I drive it mostly because I got kids. I bought it for $1700 and have put about 10,000 miles on it in the past 3 and a half years. I bought it to haul stuff in it but turned out to be driven most of the time because I'm always having to haul stuff. Granted I have to work on it every now and then but it's usually an easy repair and parts are cheap but it's almost 40 years old. Mostly tightening up fasteners that have worked loose over time.
But some parts are a bit hard to find. I had to modify a spring from a Weber carburetor choke for the sliding door rear mechanism for the "crooked finger" catch (spring broke) because it wouldn't close. Couldn't find that mechanism anywhere.
Mine is the 127" wheelbase and despite the commercial the turning radius actually sucks compared to my 1998 Chevrolet 1500 Express. Mine has no power steering and it's hard to make it into modern parking spaces so I usually find an open section in a parking lot and just pull up to the one in front so I don't have to back out. Only thing that really sucks about it.
Nice to see this. My father had a 78 Dodge Maxivan in the brown metallic with white painted bumpers.
Besides the V8 choices, I am pretty confident the Slant 6 was an option in smaller vans.
I knew a guy who had a slant 6 in one of these .
Knew someone back in the day who had a /6 in a Tradesman long wheelbase but without the extended length. I suspect they made you buy a V8 if you got the extended length model or fancier trim. The /6 wasn't exactly a dragster in that vehicle ...
This video makes the Dodge vans seem like the obvious choice. However after watching similar dealer training videos and commercials for Chevy and Ford vans, each one focusses on their strong points to make the competition look bad. Incidentally, they all got their money's worth out of these 1970s designs which lasted well into the 1990s (and Dodge until 2003). I drove a 1995 Dodge Ram Van and the dash/instrumentation still looked the same! It was so old it was back in style again!
This add was on old 35mm. For the ones that the sound bothers them, turn the dang volume up!!!! Just saying. I love these old commercials, bringing back great memories.. thank you so much for your hard work.
yeah, actually, it's an old 8mm film, and i warned everyone if they took the time to read the title that the sound quality was bad.......thanks for the support! I appreciate it.
I'm surprised that they didn't show the various mattress options for the Street Van... 😂😂😂
"for very personal cruising"
The narrator dude knew what was up.
These old Mopar dealer films are great, thanks for posting. Interesting that many from the late 70's were filmed in Palm Springs, CA.. I was said many Chrysler executives were golfers, maybe that had something to do with it. BTW- do you have any films on the Dodge commercial trucks, like the D-500/600/700?
I only have what's posted. I post them as I get them
Great post! Don't understand the negative comments. Film us over 40 years old. You can only do what you can.
Even though I love my '68 Chevy Van, one of these 70's Tradesmans is something I fantasize about. That orange shorty is absolutely perfect!!!
That film looks like it was done in Palm Springs .
My dad had a Tradesman 100 with US aluminum wheels and a beach scene , sunset , waves and all.
I’m deeply offended by the sound quality … how dare you?!
Keep up the good work
This is so cool!
Very cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dodge had redesigned Taillights in 1978 along with the Ignition switch moved to the steering column. Chevy had a redesigned front grille and front fenders in 1978. Also on the Chevy van the rear license plate location was moved from the rear door to the center of the rear bumper.
Dodge really had it all compared to other companies during that time!
The Navy had thousands of these and they didn't change much in my 24 years of service.
I had a 96 B2500 SLT I inherited from my grandfather. Amazing to see it was basically the same vehicle as in the 70s!
Ha yea, Chrysler got there money's worth out of that platform design! They used it through the early 2000's until they replaced it with those Mercedes built European style vans.
We had a 1978 dodge trans van we used to camp in when I was a kid.
I didn't have any issue with the sound. It wasn't any different than listening to a baseball game on a fairly distant AM station, like the Reds on 700 WLW.
I've always had a thing for the super short full sized vans. While the Ford, Mercedes, and GMers are all long and longer at this point, Chrysler still makes a shortie. Their shortest (Dodge) RAM Promaster is 195 inches long. That's about ten inches less than a Pacifica minivan and over two feet less than the shortest Transit or Express. If it wasn't quite so tall (the low roof model is about 88 inches tall - six inches taller than a low roof Transit) it'd make for a nice all in one weekday commuter and weekend workhorse.
I love this nostalgia.... For those who complain about the audio...FFS! It's what 45 years old and film based using an analog soundtrack. The effects of age on this is unfixable in truth. Why don't you complainers just STFU and either click off the video of just enjoy the 1970's nostalgia.🤔
Thanks, I always say to them........"if the audio is so bad, does that mean nobody should ever get to to see this film ever again?" "If the warning in the description tells you the video has AV issues, why do you then complain if you knew ahead of time?" People are jerks......thanks for watching and thanks for commenting. I do appreciate it.
Kool thankz.....
The 1978 Dodge vans are the finest ever built by anyone.
Gvwr " gross vehicle weight rating " if some are curious 🤔
60 70s and '80s dots definitely had the best drivetrain and I love the style of the vans and they made 60 70s 80s even into the nineties of campers motorhome stuff they were all Chrysler Drive trains with 440s Chrysler knows how to build drivetrains why do you think you've seen him in the movies in the 60s 70s and 80s they can take the abuse and beating torsion bar suspensions Hee Haw Dukes of Hazzard we got him we got him we got them

Hello I want to ask your permission to post a couple of these on my TikTok account. It’s firstnationsgirl and it’s all muscle cars. My husband and I are owners of a 73 Javelin AMX and I’d love to post the AMC commercials you have posted. I would leave your name on the video and give you a shout out. My channel is small but I do get a lot of views and shares on videos like these. Please let me know. Thanks
Dodge looks better than Chevy ! Dodge beats Chevy !
I used my '74 maxi to move a house full of stuff to our new house just a month ago. Still putting in work almost 50 years later. This summer it's getting a chin spoiler and a fresh interior.
