Most games of that era use cubemaps that are prerendered 360 screenshots of different locations to the project reflections onto surfaces. It's would be too expensive on the game size to have cubemaps taking pictures of every inch of the game world, so it selects a single point in each location. Having actual 'reflections' that reflect your character would be equivalent to duplicating the world assets just to 'reflect' it. (Since screen space reflections weren't a thing yet)
But it's still a 30 year old engine ! ? Absolutely stupid to do a Bethesda I think.. Especially after a year the game will already be max pushed to its limits.. And I have no idea why the fk they choose to do this
I think it's a bit inaccurate to say that the game uses a 1993 engine; engines are iterated upon and constantly improve, and it'd be kind of like saying that Unreal Engine 5 games use an engine from 1998. RenderWare 4, in particular, was revealed in 2004. A lot of weird visual effects like the ship text becoming less detailed at a certain distance are just decisions made mostly by the artists to try to aggressively lower the amount of resources the game uses (being on the Xbox 360), and not necessarily an engine limitation.
Why the teleporter appears at 9:59 is basically your character expanding so much in all directions that it will reach that teleporter. This can happen randomly while just skating arround xenia on any map. On xenia it will also make you fly up into the air if you aren't too fast and it will give you sidecam.
3:30 This acts surprisingly similar to a particular metal fence in Skate 2, behind the motel that's fairly close to Slappy's Park. If you get to the fence from the OOB side using a No Comply glitch in the backalley, it'll also have that bizarre effect on skaters. Didn't know there was one like it in Skate 3...
The team HQ teleport glitch only happens when you're playing on rpcs3 with the frame rate boosted. It happens when you run into any surface at the angle shown at 10:00 You can't actually teleport anywhere and half the time youll completely break the camera angle, have it facing in random directions until you restart the game.
Hey, at old factory "secret skatepark" if you're right outside the garage door you tried to coffin under, stand in the corner where the fence and rock meet, your shadow will be bright blue
Not sure if it has been covered, but there are certain rails/ledges that if you grind only on the front truck, it will give you loads of speed and launch you off the end. I know of some in downtown down flights of stairs that provide far too much speed providing only the front truck makes contact. I found it myself growing up and told all my firends, we would have competitions regarding who could launch furthest.

Hey, yesterday while playing on megapark I found out that the ledges behind the parking lots and the rails with to high ramps sounds like a rail instead of concread. I do not know if anyone found out of this before, I guess someone on reddit. Love your content.
A possibility is that they copied and pasted the world for online and noticed broken parts of the world and forgot to change them on offline, and in the copy and paste portion something’s may have not survived, like the ungrindable ledge.

@@stover14 Just keep trying. It took me awhile to do. Instead of pressing R at the top of the jump, do it the millisecond you start to go down, then quickly grab the board like normal. Keep doing that.
Good video but I don't get the point in focusing on the original release date of RenderWare. It's a bit disingenuous considering the way software gets updated. It'd be like saying "I'll give them a break because they're using Photoshop, which released in the 1990s." Other than that pet peeve, it was an interesting video with a lot of stuff I never knew about Skate 3.
Never saw it like that, companies like adobe are really good at persevering their software. But what I noticed with game engines is that they have a life cycle. Skate 3 being one of the last games using RenderWare definitely showed its age. The main point with reflections was what was being reflected, was on the opposite side of the map and not a few feet away. But when I made this point, I didn't know anything or thought I needed to know anything about cube maps as explained in the pinned comment.

I mean everyone knows 3 was a rush job. It has QOL upgrades to movements etc plus easier to play now but it feels very shallow and just cheaper than 2. It’s also hella annoying at times. I still play it tho 🤷♂️
