I do remember before Fairy type was revealed, one of the types people thought it could be Flying type.
In that time I thought that sylveon was the normal type eeveelution and when a friend of mine told me it was actually a fairy type Pokémon, I thought that was fake and that the fairy type was a fake Pokémon type
But when I was playing Pokemon X, and checked flabebe’s type, it turned out to be fairy type. And from that moment on, I accepted fairy type as a real Pokémon type and it’s currently my favorite Pokemon type😊

They change Sylveon's design to prevent type confusion... but then we have Florges, who looks like it should have grass as a type, but ended up being mono-fairy. It is somewhat hard to predict their type, especially if your new to the pokemon or never used it before. My brain thought it at least be a dual type with grass when encountering it in Scarlet, but it isn't.
When people think fairies they don't think elves those are two completely unrelated species
I think of either those sweet fairies who help people or those downright devious fairies who trick people. I think that deviant fairies were the ones that were the most popular before they came up with sweet fairies who helped people. I don't know for sure but i'm pretty sure it was about how they used their beauty/cuteness to trick you. I'm not an expert on mythology, so I don't know.
Elves are actually fairies. Infact Elves is just another name for fae which is a type of fairy. Fae/ fairy lore is actually pretty intriguing
@@addictofanimation2923yeah pretty much every early mythos of fae and fairies was of them being devious tricksters. Eventually it did morph into some of them being nice. Fun fact the reason we knock on wood 3 times to prevent a jynx is it was believed that the fairies lived in trees so by knocking on it 3 times they would grant you a bit of luck
@ClinomaticVixen That's an interesting bit of information. Are fairies really the same as elves? They're portrayed completely differently in the mythology I've seen and are usually acting completely opposite, with elves usually being noble and fairies being mischievous (and usually with wings and usually small but I've seen human-sized fairies). I'm genuinely curious, I'm not saying you're wrong.

I could see the Goomy line being part water or atleast Goodra. You do have to level up Sliggo in the rain to evolve so it wouldn't be too wild to me.
Sylveon could have definitely been flying type cause part of the name Sylph which is a wind/air Spirit

Aliens, check, expanded mythical stories, check, evil professor, check, the sports theme, check. Like the list goes on and on. You can find plenty of posts pointing out how much from this was in future games. It’s unlikely to be a coincidence. The anime which was written before the games released, even reuses the Olympia as a prophet idea. There’s just too much supporting it imo

I’m glad more people are starting to feel this way. I never hated XY like a lot of Pokémon fans do and I always thought they were fun games with more little things to enjoy than just creature collecting (even if that is the whole point of Pokémon). For example I loved getting to go around the hotel and working part time jobs and I loved getting to pet and play with my Pokémon and the berry field was a fun little thing even if you always ended up forgetting about it. I hope they improve on having more things to do like this in legends ZA because I feel like making the world feel lived in and interactive is what Pokémon is missing in its jump to 3D, especially in the switch era

Why does everyone forget about sawk and throh who are arguably THE most humanoid pkm.
I remember once hearing, and note this was a while ago around the release of Sword and Shield; that Game Freak originally didn't know what faeries were to the western world and originally relied on modern "cutesy" ideas, think Walt Disney, before they delve deeper and realized that the west's faeries were similar to their yokai or that they had served similar roles in folktales and were a very broad and untidy category. Hence why we started seeing actual fae creatures like the Impadimp and Tinkatink lines and Hatterene, while retaining their original ideas of fairy types being cutesy.

Dude, just for reference the Fairy type in Italian is called Folletto, and not Fata, the literal translation of Fairy in English.
Folletto is a fairy-tale being of popular tradition, small and cunning, magically operating to the detriment or advantage of man, whereas Fata is an imaginary creature in the form of a very small (often winged) human, with magical powers, a pixie.
That is why the majority of fairy-type pokémon is not winged, fairy-like, because they look more like the variety of creatures you could find in Fairy-Tales.
That's an interesting interpretation, but I don't see that having an impact on how the game was developed. It's a Japanese game, and the Japanese word for fairy type is... "fearii taipu" fairy type. The loan word is from English, not Italian.
@TekuJames yes, but where English language uses both "fairy" to refer to the winged creature and fairy-tales, Italian language uses two different terms:
- Fiaba, for fairy-tale, the story, like snow white or Cinderella;
- Fata, for fairy.
TTar was expecting every fairy type pokemon to be winged, but then they would’ve been mixed up as a flying type Pokemon.
Fairy type is not to be understood as fairy, but more like creatures from fairy tales, e.g. pixies, elves, ogres, orcs etc.
that's also why the "fairy type" is not translated in Italian as "Tipo Fata". Could you believe Grimmsnarl as a "Fata" 🤣?

Honestly could be true since alot of the ideas seem to be reused or recycled in later gens like Sun and Moon.
The size and weight thing was always played with. I think all the way back to gen 3. I remember catching fish to beat a fishermans record. Pokemon has been toying around with type balancing way longer. They really started implementing them at gen 5. They probably looked at the type chart and how dragons were not just powerful but also very defensive. Dragons were always meant to be that though. Like dragons in dragon quest are tough and in any fantasy setting you naturally put dragons in this mythical or legendary tier of creatures cause of how dinosaur like and big youd think one is. Especially if youve ever seen a full dinosaur skeleton up close. Its why a the gen 4 creation trio are all dragons. In gen 5 with its themes it makes sense for the apex to be dragons and why they are so rare to encounter to begin with. Also like you can say the pseudo legendary pokemon have like a sub category of dragon types. Its hard to tell when they come up with themes to their games. But i think the idea to create a whole knew typing came from the theme of XY. Probably riding off the theme from gen 5. Cause they wanted another gray concept of life, death and immortality. If you were to be immortal, youd wish where you would live to be good and not dying around you. They upped that fantastical notion by thinking of what would represent life and death in pokemon. Sure they could have given the life pokemon the psychic typing. Since the idea of espers has a lot to it that would fit the category. Dark type just fits yveltal well, so with the whole norse mytholgy in mind they settled for xerneas;s design and with the whole fantasy aspect, it made sense that they needed more of a kick to Xerneas. With them thinking of balancing the game, they thought to make the fairy type because everything sounds like its out from a fairy tale. The initial thought most likely was to counter yveltal and dragons, since dragons were so powerful. As for weaknesses they just chose what is most seen as antagonistic in fairy tales in general. Thats why fire types affect it thatway. Also its pretty often that dragons kidmap princesses and are often like the antagonists in fairy tales. Hence why outright calling them Fairy. So i say Xerneas was the first proper fairy pokemon.
Drakeon, Spectreon, Aereon, Insecteon, Brawleon, Toxeon, Metaleon, Stoneon, Eartheon. All these Eevee names you could possibly give to another Eeveelution with those unused types.

these are cool names, but i think the OP is suggesting what TTar said - these would scrapped types that all competed with fairy, IE: Crystal, Light, Sound. OP says Sylveon as the fairy type candidate looked/worked the best against dragon, and thus why is won out.
Whispeon for the Ghost One because Spectreon is literally too close to Spectrier. The rest are what those would be for sure. I will also add Stellareon the Stellar type Eevee.

Same, I always saw fairy type pokemon as based off mythology and folklore style, mystical and magical
I mean, some are. Like Dedenne is I think, based off of the tooth fairy, the reason it's a mouse is because in France, the Tooth Fairy is a mouse. I'm sure a lot of fairy types are based on mythical creatures, but since pokemon have multiple origins, they might just not be so obvious.
I know a lot of people want a Dragon-type Eeveelution, and I understand why, I'd like that too. But even more, I'd like a Poison-type and a Ground-type Eeveelution to complete the circle. All Eeveelutions are strong and weak against at least one of the other Eeveelution. The only exception is Volteon, Espeon and Sylveon. Jolteon is strong againt Vaporeon, but not weak to any Eeveelution. On the other side of the coin, Espeon is weak to Umbreon but no strong against another while Sylveon is strong against Umbreon, but not weak to any.
And everytime Eeveelutions has been released in pairs one has been strong against the other. So the best pair to release to close this cycle is Ground and Poison, as not only is Poison weak to Ground, but with these two, Jolteon and Sylveon will have an Eeveelution they are weak to, while Espeon will get one it's strong to.
This might sound like a ridiculous reason, but I'd like to have that.
For reference of what Hawlucha could have looked like look based on the "leak" have a look at Tizoc from SNK's Fatal Fury games.

Imagine Eevee getting terapagos new type as Eevee. Where Eevee can learn any move regardless of type, with a protean type ability so it gets STAB boost no matter what
I'm still surprised that we're 9 generations of Pokémon, and yet we still haven't seen Eevee receive an evolution for every Pokémon Type. And I think the perfect opportunity to give Eevee an evolution for every type is to use the moves seen in Let's Go Eevee. Have Eevee learn one of those Eevee exclusive moves, level it up, and it evolves into a Pokémon that's basically an Eevee with a different type.

I’m pretty sure Eeveelutions are only exclusive to Special-Type Pokemon, like Water, Electric, Fire, Grass, Psychic, Ice, Dark and Dragon with the exclusion of Fairy Types (but is generally agreed to be a Special Type considering their movesets are mainly special in nature)

It's all useful info in the end as obvious as some of it is, because it's pointing out direct thought processes behind weird things like why Zygarde got a back seat and why Diancie isn't fully related to carbink in game. I believe most of what was there, especially the Sylveon workshopping with how big of a deal they made it's dabut tied to the type as opposed to something like Floette that's heavily tied to the story, and the fact that almost all the qualities of fairy typing lean towards type balancing and they took it a bit too far haha.

@zekrom1474 he's keeping the game alive by talking and speculating with how little info we have. Look at sv hype season. There was like 2 trailers and that's it(excluding dlc). Speculation and keeping it relevant is how the hype season is made. Doesn't need to be true, just something to think about

The ribbons as a fairy type thing makes sense to me if you consider fairy to be a substitute word for a holy/light type, as a counterpart for the dark/evil type. Ribbons, as any magical girl anime fan knows, are strongly associated with magical girls and therefore the light type. Or at least this is the first thing I thought of when the first Fairy type move they revealed was Moon Blast, a move that sounds right out of Sailor Moon.

I can actually see Sylveon being originally a normal type eeveelution, like a lot of the older pokemon that got retroactive turn into Fairy type were originally just normal, clefairy, jigglypuff, snubbull and togepi.
I remember an interview i read years ago in the early 2000’s i think where some one at gamefreak said they wanted to implement size & stat differences based on size so that seems true that they wanted to do it for years

Ahhhh sylveon , the single pokemon responsible for making steel and poison much more viable . X/Y made me appreciate steel types so much i now run them . That moment when seeing my friends face, when his entire team of dragons lost to a flesh ribbon fox just for me to one shot it with a heavy slam aggron. I can say i do still think ice should be a weakness to fairy , winter and snow tend to kill off nature and fairies typically need nature for their powers to work.
The Goomy line should have been Dragon/Poision type. A lot of the Pokédex entries talk about how it’s goo is acidic and can dissolve things, PLUS I feel like the pseudo-legendary of the generation that introduced fairy typing, should have been strong against it.
Kind of a slap to the face to say “The pseudo of this gen is not only 2X weak to the new typing but none of its stab moves can even hit them”

The talk of Hawlucha's original design reminds me a bit of Betsumon from Digimon. It's a Digimon, but it looks like a creepy human cosplaying as a Digimon.
I actually started to think about how i found your channel the first time. It was before X and Y came out and you made lots of fake cora cora leak videos that you have removed from your channel now. Its one of the key features of my childhood and getting into pokémon in the first place. It didnt get me to love the games though but everything around it was amazing.

When SV was announced in 2022, I speculated its been 9 years since X and Y games, will Eevee gets a new evolution in Gen 9, if so, it will be the 9th Eevolution.
i feel like Diancie was still gonna be Legendary, whether Mythical or not - i think they must have shied away from the idea of an evolving Legendary Pokémon, but clearly they felt brave enough to finally do it in the next generation

there is no unused Eevee evolutions. I don't know where this is coming from but Sylveon was the only evolution the company wanted for XY to be introduced. The "leaker" doesn't say the right things.

So to balance the limited number of dragon types pokemon where the majority were the pseudo of the gen gamefreak decided to oversaturate the fairy type. They screwed up imo, a lot of pokemon received the typing ruining game balance given the typing advantages that came with it. Mons like jigglypuff went from being weak to fighting types to clapping cheeks. I can understand adding clefairy but not many others. Should of just used the fairy type for the new pokemon of the gen or hell a pseudo to go with the eevee.

in all fairness to the devs... Media Literacy is Dead. People can't seem to wrap their heads around the concepts of Unreliable Narrators and Villains still being WRONG if they're sympathetic. Just because someone can understand how a villain got to where they were, that doesn't mean the villain Did Nothing Wrong. So yeah, I can absolutely believe that if they'd gone more conventionally Fairy with Sylveon that people would have thought it was Flying Type.
All that work for a single new eeveelution when Dragon, Ghost, Poison, and Steel are right there. We better get Dragon (non negotiable), either of those other types and maybe a Cosmic/Crystal/Time/Sound type GF. And make them stomp down fairys.
