The paper is definitely white and the watercolours are different brands

I think its mainly basic colours. Choose your own, have a go!

when painting the wings, how do you get that airy texture? I feel like mine will just look flat.

I used a very light wash and left gaps, so you can see the paper.... you can add extra touches of paint into the wet areas. Hope this helps.
