Hello, Jone. To answer your question, I am pretty sure she was singing live here. If not, it would have been the first time ever. Also, I'm Norwegian, and this was recorded on Norway and Sweden's most popular talk show at the time, called "Skavlan" after the name of the host. I have seen a lot of these programs, with different artists performing, and there have been many times where I have thought to myself that the artist has sounded terrible live, and that they would probably have been better off lip syncing. Other than that, this was an original song, which she wrote as a thank you to her family (and fans) for all the support they have given her. She calls them her shield. Also "surround me by angels, don't let them go" is a nod to her fan base, which she calls her angels. But nowadays obviously 95% of artists are using it to sound better than they actually are. Angelina is not one of them. I am 100% sure she is fully against it. Don't tell me Angelina autotuned, if she has done so, I am sure there is a reason. And certainly not for her to sound better lol she 100% doesn't need it. Some record labels do it for commercial purposes nowadays.

I assume at least the drummer was playing live, since otherwise that would be very obvious, I think, to the audience in the venue. Of course, her singing was 100% live, which you can tell, if no other way, by the dips in volume when she got off-axis on the microphone. Usually there's a little more compression used in TV appearances like this, so you don't notice that as much. A lot of people will tell you quite confidently that she has never used pitch correction or lip syncing (or more broadly, never "faked anythng"). Unfortunately, those people are wrong. It takes a while to explain in full detail, so I won't bother; I'll just say that there are several examples of each (PC, LS, and other types of "fakery") in her vast catalog that run the gamut from "not what I would have advised her to do, but ultimately not a big deal" to "OMG, Angelina, please never do that ever again, for your own sake". Generally speaking, everything she did before signing with Republic Records in 2020 is either totally free of "fakery" or of the relatively minor, "excusable" type (e.g., her lip-syncing to her own precorded vocal of "I'd Rather Go Blind', or pretending to play the piano while singing over a karaoke track in a few posts to "social media"). Since signing with Republic, everythng she has released under her own copyright continues to be free of (obvious) fakery. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said of almost everything bearing a Republic/UMG copyright. She must have signed a contract that gave them final say over what those releases sound like, and they clearly don't know how to "leave well enough alone" when it comes to working with a singer who can Actually Sing. It's been frustrating… On the live side, there is one particular live performance at the "The Best FIFA Football Awards" that is, well, frankly embarrassing - and not just because of a strange (presumed) technical glitch that keeps recurring, but because she is clearly (IMO) lip syncing to a prerecorded studio vocal, at least for everything after the opening few lines (and so is the guy performing with her, but I don't care about him). Apart from that, AFAIR, there aren't any other live performances of hers where anything "objectionable" is going on. I really hope that continues to be the case…
Great insights / analysis! I'm not a musical expert but everything you say sounds right to me - I've noticed some effects on at least one of the EP songs, and don't have a sufficiently attuned ear to hear others. As for Shield, which was pre-Republic, I've never liked the studio version - because her vocals sound over-produced. Even in this live version the added background vocal sounds feel unnecessary to me, except perhaps to try to get it closer to the studio version. Speaking of which - while I've enjoyed her live performances of her EP songs as Portsmouth (all 6) and Vegas (only 2) - I think she is still trying to figure out how to perform them live up to her usual extraordinarily high standards. I don't want her to try to make them sound like the studio versions, but ... find a way to make them special. Perhaps the best I've heard so far was her excerpt of Diamond with Egil on guitar in a living room or hotel room (they were both sitting).

Generally speaking, everything she did before signing with Republic Records in 2020 is either totally free of "fakery" or of the relatively minor, "excusable" type (e.g., her lip-syncing to her own precorded vocal of "I'd Rather Go Blind', or pretending to play the piano while singing over a karaoke track in a few posts to "social media"). Since signing with Republic, everythng she has released under her own copyright continues to be free of (obvious) fakery. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said of almost everything bearing a Republic/UMG copyright. She must have signed a contract that gave them final say over what those releases sound like, and they clearly don't know how to "leave well enough alone" when it comes to working with a singer who can Actually Sing. It's been frustrating…
On the live side, there is one particular live performance at the "The Best FIFA Football Awards" that is, well, frankly embarrassing - and not just because of a strange (presumed) technical glitch that keeps recurring, but because she is clearly (IMO) lip syncing to a prerecorded studio vocal, at least for everything after the opening few lines (and so is the guy performing with her, but I don't care about him). Apart from that, AFAIR, there aren't any other live performances of hers where anything "objectionable" is going on. I really hope that continues to be the case…
Great insights / analysis! I'm not a musical expert but everything you say sounds right to me - I've noticed some effects on at least one of the EP songs, and don't have a sufficiently attuned ear to hear others. As for Shield, which was pre-Republic, I've never liked the studio version - because her vocals sound over-produced. Even in this live version the added background vocal sounds feel unnecessary to me, except perhaps to try to get it closer to the studio version.
Speaking of which - while I've enjoyed her live performances of her EP songs as Portsmouth (all 6) and Vegas (only 2) - I think she is still trying to figure out how to perform them live up to her usual extraordinarily high standards. I don't want her to try to make them sound like the studio versions, but ... find a way to make them special. Perhaps the best I've heard so far was her excerpt of Diamond with Egil on guitar in a living room or hotel room (they were both sitting).
