    Ange changed to back 3 with Oz national team in World Cup qualifiers. He has also adjusted depending on who CF is as he had used all shapes and sizes. Don’t believe he is a one trick pony

      True, but the main reason he did that is because he didn't have the midfielders to play his prefered system.

      With a national team you have to work with what you have, in the premier league you try to build a team for the way you want to play. With Tottenham he will not change his formation because he believes that this is the best way to win.

    I don't think Ange will ever change to a back 3 or a lopsided back 4. He is so committed to his attacking philosophy and simply won't compromise. Part of the fundamentals of that is committing so many players high up the pitch that it suffocates opponents and makes it almost impossible for them to get out. Sometimes as you say, great teams can pick through it and you have to say, that's fair enough. Bearing in mind we've gone toe to toe with most of the top teams this season and not been overwhelmed (Chelsea game apart), I think it shows his brave system is perfectly functional!

      No system is foolproof but playing this type of attacking style AND scoring puts a lot more pressure on the other side.

      I agree with both pottero6 and jonasp6043. Having watched - and loved - Angeball for a couple of seasons with Celtic, he's going to be very positive that, in balance, his system will win. Rather than believe that championships are won by limiting goals, he believes that they are won by scoring goals.

    I think the the whole point of ange’s system is the unpredictability with both his wingbacks inverting higher up the pitch than other inverting wingbacks - it pulls the opposition out of position because they dont know how far they have to follow and mark them. Hence a back 3 makes it easier for the opponent to defend against us.

  • @essoteric
    @essoteric 8 месяцев назад

    We have the players now to try something quite different, a 3-3-4! The wingers could now provide that width on the flanks, with Sarr and Bentancur progressing the ball and getting in on both attack and defence.
    Romero-Dragusin-VDV
    Bissouma-Sarr-Bentancur
    Johnson/Kulu - Maddison - Sonny/Werner

    This thing about which formation is named in line up isn't as important as player movement within the system. The other thing, which is something Ange has eluded to, is rather than change the system, his philosophy is just to get better at excuting the system. Don't forget that Ange is also still in the process of getting the right players in. He has managed to do all of this in a short space of time and despite the many injuries to key players. His first half year in the premier league is impressive. He has had the courage to stick to his convictions despite the early criticisms such as " you can't do this in the premier league." The most common comment now is "he is a breath of fresh air.'

  • @daveyfunk

    The 6 usually covers the left side of the field more so than the right and covers Udogie when he pushes forward. Madders, or the 10 role, alternates frequently with Udogie and they switch between dropping deeper and pushing higher. VDV also offers that cover with his pace. It's generally the right side of the pitch which can be more vulnerable where Porro tends to be the player that pushes higher recently and fills that gap inbetween the oppositions midfield and attack. Sarr tends to pull a bit further wide and then Romero pushes higher up to try win balls aggressively. If we went to a back 3 we lose a lot of the attacking threat and it completely changes what I've written above and is less aggressive in the press. The idea of how Ange looks to defend is have players higher up the pitch to aggressively press and attempt to win the ball back whilst players are out of position. Of course this leaves us vulnerable to a counter, but that's obviously the risk and playing more CB's will inevitably reduce the effectiveness of how we attack. How it worked early is that Sarr would push much higher but I think Ange has identified Porro possibly being better on the ball and then using Sarr's energy to be the cover for Porro to push up

  • @adn17
    @adn17 8 месяцев назад +2

    I hope we don't change to a back 3. Our current system's weaknesses are also our strengths. It's rare for two fullbacks to play as number 10s, which forces the opposition to have their wingers back. And if the wingers don't track back, we will have plenty of shooting opportunities in front.

    • @LilywhiteLab
      @LilywhiteLab  8 месяцев назад +1

      We won’t change to a back 3. Only possibility is a lopsided 4 imo.

  • @sambeck33

    Ange did switch to this back three lineup briefly during the Man U game. But it seemed like the goal was to have more attackers and move both wing backs fully into the midfield.

  • @PhilSimAU
    @PhilSimAU 8 месяцев назад

    You don't lose shape if you only play sacrifice one of your attackers for the extra centre back. So you move from the 2,3,5 you've described to 3,3,4. I don't think he'd ever start with this formation but most definitely when we're in front and particularly when we are up against an excellent counter attack, I think this will help us protect some of the leads we have given away to date. And most definitely our back three would have Romero in the middle, given Dragusin can and has played as a right back (and Emerson also then gives you another option in that position).

    It's all about averages and yep we give up width for our own overloads. Once the quality of our team / bench improves it won't be such an issue as it is now when key players are out.
    Last season and recently because of the injury certain players those brought in just ain't up to the standard and give the ball away to much. Pass backwards to much and are to slow not just just physically but mentally.
    Loving the football we now playing and it's being back to being real spurs i luved and have supported threw think and thin for over years. Ossie played a 235 formation but nothing like this system. Wow the gamrw was thrillers but he got sacked..
