I can’t think of the general ethos of Gusteau without thinking about Anthony Bourdain. He never said “anyone can cook” explicitly the way Gusteau does, but he did more than enough to show it. This film was one of my favorite growing up, and Bourdain was one of the people I looked up to most in the world after I grew up a little more. Now, revisiting this movie as an adult, I see a direct line of connection between his philosophy and the philosophy of Ratatouille. RIP king
They’re also way smarter than people think and one of the most sacrificed animals in experiments. We should honor rats for their contributions to scientific research 😂
The final review of Ego is super touching to me now because I feel like it's never more true today. You see so many people out there trying to thrive and profit from negativity and it's great that Ego finally came around and embrace positivity
Late 90s with films like the first toy story, going into 2010 is the golden age of pixar. That first 15 or so years was what put them on the map, and nothing they've made since has quite held up
Makes me miss the pet rats we used to have before we found I was allergic. I had one that taught herself to wave goodbye to me when I went to work every morning.
I like a comment someone else made on the villain saying he's not evil he's just depressed because his mother's cooking was the best he ever had and now she's gone he's never been able to find anyone to replicate it.
-Ratatouille is definitely one of my top Pixar films. I think out of all the main characters they've had, the Remy character speaks to me the most (I sorta equate his love of cooking to my love of films) -I'm with you in how animation can transform things that are fearful in real life and make them more approachable. -Shout out to the voice acting in this, Wall-E, Up and Incredibles in these films. Like the voice acting is great in all the Pixar films but those four I mention really didn't have the huge name stars. -Brad Bird is one of the MVPs of the film. I'll say it again that this man deserves more credit as a screenwriter.
I love this movie for helping people come around to the idea that rats are cute. Domestic rats and mice actually great starter pets! They're easy to feed, house, and clean up after. And you can teach them cool tricks! You can even let them loose at home if they trust you enough. And they love being tickled! 😊
@@JamesVSCinema if you want to see the real guy, when Anthony Bourdain went to Lyon on No Reservations - CNN, he spent a good part of the episode with him.
Still happily subscribed, King. What nonsense are they trying to pull? The most fascinating thing about this story is how it treats/deals with its protagonists. Gusteau reminds me of super hip celebrity chef Matty Matheson AKA Neil Geoff Fak of THE BEAR fame. That show is a mind virus- As soon as any kitchen commotion montage started- I couldn't help but start hearing Carmy yelling about how terrible it is. "THIS IS HOW MOST OF YOU LOOK" Made me spit out my cereal.
This is the only Pixar movie I saw in the movie theater when I was an actual kid. Was with my brother and grandpa. That movie felt like the first mature story for a movie I took seriously.
Just checked and I am subscribed!! Awesomesauce 🎉 Once again, love hearing your thoughts on movies. Also, yotally agree about animation being a soft form of flooding for helping us begin to tolerate fears and phobias. For example, this film helped me face my fear of criticism and failure! Less literal than rats of course, but still helpful!
So glad you watched this~ Just wanted to pop in as someone who has been keeping domesticated pet rats for over 4 years now - keep in mind that wild rats and domesticated rats are different! Humankind has been domesticating rats for centuries at this point, and they are extremely clean & sociable! You wouldn't want to keep a wild rat unless you were an animal rescue worker, but that goes for any animal species - none of us would mess with feral cats. The only downside about pet rats is they only live about 2 years on average. 💔 I love Ratatouille so much, I'm glad it's helped people be a little less afraid of these animals that live alongside us humans.
Oh I hope he does! I think he wasn't doing anime on the channel for a while cause the videos don't do very well usually, and RUclips starts planning your funeral if stuff under performs in the first week. Ghibli movies have a much wider appeal though, and with the new "James vs _____" he might be able to do it!
Gesteau is nased on a chef named Bernard Loiseau. He was an amazing chef, but his perfectionism and posible depression caused him to take his own life die to criticism
Just reporting, as asked, that I too was somehow unsubscribed here... No idea why or how. While I'm here, can I just thank you for being along with me every now and then for the last five years or so... Am an old cinephile and I love hearing what you have to say and have you take me to ways of looking at things that are often new to me... You are very much appreciated! Best wishes always, Karl, Leeds, England.
I am a chef and this movie creeps me out every time. I see the story, I know its wholesome and fun, but I cant get over the facts that there is a rat in the kitchen. Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeewwwww!!! :D
The best Pixar film! Followed closely by The Incredibles. Pixar films already tend to be masterpieces, but imo Brad Bird's movies are in a league of their own.
I would go every gd day and tip in cheese wheels if I went to a restaurant and a RAT cooked a meal that made me question reality and have flashbacks to some top tier home cooking by an French mother that I didn’t have - every gd day
Dude, I’ve been subscribed for a couple of years I think. But after u said ytube unsubscribe people I double checked and sure as shit, I had to hit subscribe again.
Great video James! I would love to see you react to "The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn", I think is a pretty underrated action and adventure animated movie
Another ad read, good for you man! This is one of my favorite Pixar movies. I just took my daughter to Disney World a couple of weeks ago and she loved this ride. Great reaction, as always!
What movie would you guys want me to VS?

The fact that they consulted an actual French chef makes me so happy
rats make great pets. they're super smart and friendly. they get a bad rap. this may be my favorite pixar movie
There was a girl who lived near me that always had a white rat riding on her shoulder
This movie is the embodiment of the phrase "Let him cook!"
I can’t think of the general ethos of Gusteau without thinking about Anthony Bourdain. He never said “anyone can cook” explicitly the way Gusteau does, but he did more than enough to show it. Man, this is one of my favorites, always a tearjerker
Can’t blame ya homie!
rats got a bad rap for the whole plague thing, lol , when it was really the fleas that carried it and just hitched a ride
Damn we gotta change the history books hahaha
They’re also way smarter than people think and one of the most sacrificed animals in experiments. We should honor rats for their contributions to scientific research 😂
guilty by association XDD
“The whole plague thing” yeah a few people died I guess nbd 😂
Besides, even if they were the ones carrying it, they're animals, it's not their fault :(
Fun fact rats are believed NOT to have a gag reflex so the fact that Remy gagged shows how bad of a cook Linguini is 😂
"You got the sauce bro. And the cool thing is you also know how to cook it"
Best quote about this movie I have ever seen
The final review of Ego is super touching to me now because I feel like it's never more true today. You see so many people out there trying to thrive and profit from negativity and it's great that Ego finally came around and embrace positivity
The guy voices the bad chef is the guy who plays Bilbo in LotR. And that makes the performance even more delightful.
i adored this era of pixar. 2004-2010 were fantastic years for them

Rats make the most wonderful pets. Trainable and affectionate, the only potential problem is that they don't have very long lives.
FYI, Anton Ego the food critic was voiced by Peter O'Toole (Lawrence of Arabia)
I like a comment someone else made on the villain saying he's not evil he's just depressed because his mother's cooking was the best he ever had and now she's gone he's never been able to find anyone to replicate it.

This has to be one of the top three animated movies ever made. It's so great on every level.
Gotta appreciate Brad Bird's animations.
I get into that in the video actually
Let’s go he’s talking about my favorite Pixar movie!
Hope you enjoy!
Interesting fact, the number of folds or ‘plaits’ on a chefs hat are traditionally to symbolise how many ways they can cook an egg
I find it funny because I rewatched this just yesterday - it is such an underrated film within Pixar's catalogue. Really enjoy this one!
Been here since the fall of 2020 love this movie looking forward to the content

19:23 IM THE TRASHMAN. I GO ON AND THROW GARBAGE ALL OV-ALL OVER THE RING. THEN I EAT THE GARBAGE
Gusteau in looks was based on Paul Bocuse, legendary chef.
Nice! Thank you for that!

That awkward feeling when I love this movie but would pass out if I actually saw a rat cooking in my kitchen 😂
One of my favourite movies of all time. Also, it always makes me hungry, when I watch it :D
The shop with dead rats in the window actually exists.
If the rats are clean and the food is good then hell yeah.
Linguini seems like a less chaotic Greg from Succsession
Watching this movie always makes me feel hungry and French

happy to hear!!

I still have the cooking book that came with the DVD.
I started rolling the moment you said “I know that guys built weird..but” lol😂😂
Hell yeah closing out the workday with James and a dope flick. I am still subscribed
Please watch Mallrats written/directed by Kevin Smith.
Nobody else thinks it’s hilarious that his brother’s name sounds like “A meal” 🤭
Love this vs. stuff. Great movie, ty for the watch 🙏🏼
Randall. The evil chameleon guy in Monsters Inc. is Randall.
Nice! My favorite Pixar film. LOVE this. Anytime it's on, no matter if it's just beginning, or half over, I'll finish watching it. SOOO good!

I think he should do "Spirited Away."
Thanks for the video. I enjoyed it.
this movie is so good, and im so glad they never made a sequal

Yo i was legit wanting to submit a request for this movie. 😂😂 This is mine and my daughter’s comfort movie! ❤👩🏼🍳
I would love for the next Pixar movie to be Inside Out, that movie would send James into a fucking emotional riot!
Okay but how could she not smell the giant fucking rat colony in her attic
