Before watching this I would have said, "Robin Williams, hands down every time." Followed by Betty White and Norm McDonald. Thank goodness for reruns. We can watch them over and over again. (Thanks to Desi Arnaz.)
My favorite SNL host monologue is definitely Taylor Swift's. I have a link to it and I go back and watch it frequently. She was still just a kid then, and there is something about her putting the word 'douchebag' into her song that cracks me up! I have read many interviews with former SNL writers and they said that writing the monologue is one of the toughest things for them to do. Then Swift walked in and said, "Hey, I've got this great idea for a monologue song," and they were thinking "OK. Easiest week ever! Thanks, Taylor."
I believe every clip on here is extremely funny, therefore it would’ve been nice to hear what the person was saying instead of the incessant ramblings of the narrator.
I've been a Norm Macdonald fan for sometime, and i can't believe i hadn't listen to his snl monologue before. It was one of the most hilarious things i've ever heard 🤣 Thank you watchmojo for leading me to it 👍
I wish that Bernie Mac is still alive in 2022 but everyone has to respect Betty White. And what about Eddie Murphy, did he eat Mexican rice with chopsticks as Chinese food before hosting Saturday Night Live on December 21, 2019?
Thank you @@Jay-Zech! Some of their lists get more comments complaining about them talking over the content than the actual content itself, i.e. whether or not people agree with the list's placings. The idea of making these lists is to get people to go watch the original content if it is available .
Catherine O'Hara explains how she wishes that somebody told her that Steve Martin's arrow through the head bit wasn't real. (1992) Dan Levy explains how the phrase "Eew David" has haunted him for the rest of his life. And his father being kept in a high plexiglass isolation box, that he didn't know about, after he flew from Los Angeles to New York.
Half of these were actually funny. The first lady got me respecting her attitude. I wasn't laughing, but I liked her. Betty is awesome, and I absolutely agree with her, but that wasn't a funny bit either. I was hopeful when Steve Martin showed up...but he fell flat. Paul Simon was adorable. Eddie Murphy, brought hope back...but once again didn't deliver. I was getting really disappointed by this point. Kumail was the first one to actually make me laugh, I was starting to worry. Then Norm and Robin...they never fail, they're the only perfect picks for the top spots.
Actually if you’re going to include Norm McDonald’s clip from his monologue re being fired from the show, all it does is remind me of the (IMPO) funnier monologue by Adam Sandler wherein he explains why he left SNL to his kids thru the song “I WAS FIRED” (joined by Chris Rock & some others & inexplicably Pete Davidson who, of course, was still on the show and couldn’t figure out how that was possible) with the extraordinarily funny ending to the song which I won’t ruin, in case you plan to look it up. Or have forgotten the monologue. Otherwise, I am a huge fan of John Mulaney so I love everything that he does, not just the monologues, but since this IS in fact a list of best monologues, it’s not surprising that there are so many standup comedians on the list, as this is basically their job, just much much shorter than usual. I recall Phoebe Waller Bridge being really funny (as well as the picks you showed) and the wonderful thing about Robin Williams is that basically everything that came out of his mouth was improv. On the spot. I can’t even begin to understand the brilliance of somebody capable of just making up monologues on the spot. The closest thing to that is perhaps Lin Manuel, et al just making up rap songs off the top of their heads being given two random words or something equally arbitrary. 🥰🥰😂😂😂
“the first black female standup comedian…. ‘from California with shoulder length hair after having done a commercial for makeup while in her 40s and a single mother of only one kid named Sean’….to host SNL…”. Seriously?
Darn - I got sucked in again! I saw the headline, but didn't see it was by Mojo, and sure enough the narrator just talked and talked and talked, rather than let the subjects talk for themselves. I'm surprised you still get away with this, Mojo.
I think the quality has fluctuated throughout the years. People like to say things like “SNL hasn’t been funny since Norm Macdonald” but there were plenty of unfunny skits back in that day, and have been plenty of funny skits since. It probably has been on tv a few years too long though.

Loved seeing Betty White’s sweet face!!!
But everyone has to respect Betty White.
Adam Driver KILLED me. So many more people fell in love with him after seeing that.
Norm Macdonald ❤️ immediately followed by Robin Williams. Two comedy legends both gone far too soon.
Jesse omg that's too good 😂

Love it!
Betty White was my favorite😍
My favourite SNL monologue I can remember is Kevin Hart’s 2015 hosting. He has this hilarious story about his son and a raccoon.
Loved Eddie Murphy's Monologue
Yeah, he won an Emmy in 2020 for Outstanding Guest Host.
But, was he eating Mexican rice with chopsticks as Chinese food before hosting the show on that night?
@@kennethzinke9168 I have no idea?
Kim K’s monologue was really funny
Betty is timeless.
SNL introduced me to Tiffany Hadish
really.. that's cool
I believe every clip on here is extremely funny, therefore it would’ve been nice to hear what the person was saying instead of the incessant ramblings of the narrator.
I love SNL including the reruns! ❤️
On Saturday nights, NBC shows reruns at 10:00. Then the new one at 11:35. I Love the anticipation of which old one will they show
Fabulous dress 👗Alexander McQueen, Paul Simon “Still Crazy After All These Years”!!!!
I’d like to see Chevy Chase and Beverly Diangelo together again!
Omitting Richard Pryor from Season 1 is a huge oversight. I mean it's legendary.
Paul Simon is a classic one 🎉😂❤
Loved Daniel Kaluuya’s Monologue
I love John mulaney, and also Robin Williams, oh and Tracy Morgan 😊😊
Why not let us listen to the monologues?
I've been a Norm Macdonald fan for sometime, and i can't believe i hadn't listen to his snl monologue before. It was one of the most hilarious things i've ever heard 🤣
Thank you watchmojo for leading me to it 👍
Mine is Jason Segal with the Muppets. Always makes me happy
John mulaney was behind Stefan? Too incredible!!! 😮❤🎉
All of them are very good 🎉❤😂
I loved Kevin Hart's raccoon story monologue. I watch it over and over again.
AN INFORMED RACIST IS A BETTER RACIST, I swear to gods, I actually choked from laughter, I can’t believe I’ve never seen his monologue
Zach Galifinakas-take your pick which time and Melissa McCarthy.
I wish that Bernie Mac is still alive in 2022 but everyone has to respect Betty White. And what about Eddie Murphy, did he eat Mexican rice with chopsticks as Chinese food before hosting Saturday Night Live on December 21, 2019?
WHY DONT YOU LET US HEAR THEIR MONOLOGUES? WE DONT WANT TO HEAR EXPLANATION OF OBVIOUS! RUINED THIS CLIP!
Dude, chill out. Go watch the clips if you want them so bad. This is a commentary list, not a compilation, that’s what they do on this channel

@@Jay-Zech is not available worldwide. I'm in Canada and I have no access to SNL.
@@damaskito Yeah, but there’s RUclips. That’s what I meant.
@@Jay-Zech yeah. I'm taking about RUclips. I get the black screen.

Can't you just let us watch, SNL does not need an analyst
Kumail Nanjiani’s monologue was amazing!! As a Sikh i really appreciated his clarification of Sikhs vs Muslims
Taylor Swift's leaves me in chuckles
Louie CK had my personal favorite. Also thought Adam Sandler had the second best in my book.
The Big Sick was awesome.
Can you please make a video of the worst high schools in teen drama shows

Jimmy is always good and so is john
Dave Chappelle should have been on this list. Just saying
Don Rickles should be on this list
hey joe i’m doing real well
Wow 😮
Wow 😮
@Taydra Brookshire yeah
I clicked on this for snl. Not the over talking narration

Norm MacDonald without a doubt #1
I don't know what it is except I am so mad Paul Simon is not my husband 😄
John Mulaney
George Carlin-God, he was the original!
Amy Schumer ain't funny.
There are worse comedians out there than her
🙄 she's earns a living as a comedian. If you were right nobody would pay to see her.
Thumbs down! Why? 99% of the presentation was narrator. How the heck can you show how good the monologues were if we don't hear any of them.
“the first black female standup comedian…. ‘from California with shoulder length hair after having done a commercial for makeup while in her 40s and a single mother of only one kid named Sean’….to host SNL…”. Seriously?

Where is Kim kardashian??
Too much narration over the monologues spoils this video.
Damb
I'm at #5 so far and these aren't funny.
amy schumer's monologue was actually quite funny
Said no one
Dam
Sarah Silverman
Betty White YESSS (Legend)
Tiffany Hadish NO 🤮 (she just plays the same character over and over, no range)
Hmmm there was a theme to most of these...oh right making fun of conservatives and religion. No wonder you loved most of them.
Redo and include adam driver. He's not a comedian and he killed
To Keep It Real SNL Staying On TV For decades was a fluke it really isn't that funny kinda overrated
It's funny again. The last few years have been good.
I think the quality has fluctuated throughout the years. People like to say things like “SNL hasn’t been funny since Norm Macdonald” but there were plenty of unfunny skits back in that day, and have been plenty of funny skits since. It probably has been on tv a few years too long though.
Whoopi has hosted several times
This should be titled "top ten SNL things I want to talk talk talk talk talk and talk about". Thanks for idiotic, intrusive narration.
u owe me 17 mins this was terrible
Who made this awful list?
Steve martin never been funny
I think he's hilarious, but then that's because I can enjoy humor that isn't crass and jaded and full of swear words. It's called "innocence."
