The absolute toughest., Ever.
He's absolutely right. Win, lose, or draw, most guys in history who would get a hypothetical chance to fight Rocky would be in an incredibly rough fight. I think only a few of the elite modern giants would handle him due to the size and style clash.

Two irreplaceable superstars
Dempsey, Louis, and Marciano were all great, great boxers, each in their own way, respect to their memory.
This is how I would rate them #1 Marciano 2. Louis 3. Dempsey.
I just don't think the other two would have a chance against the relentless attack of Rocky. Lous just got off a 3 fight win streak in his comeback but Rocky knocked him out of the ring in the 8th when they fought. This would not have happened had Lousi been in his prime. But Rocky would still have beaten him in a less glorious fashion.
Dempsey was impressive but when he fought Tunney you can see he could not deal with real rign science. Gene Tunney being the first to bring real ring science to the ring.
Rocky would have mauled him with his relentless aggression. And Lous would have outboxed him

That's why they made the movie "ROCKY" because he was the Greatest all time Boxer. I truly feel if he were alive today and in his prime he'd clean out the heavyweight division.
Men were tougher back in that era which is why it's been dubbed the "Greatest Generation". I know factually some of the World War 2 veterans I knew growing up in Miami were almost super human, I kid you not. The unholy crap they crawled through made them the strongest and most Patriotic Americans ever.

Speaks volumes to the class of Rocky Marciano that he didn't talk himself into making a comeback. He knew his limits, didn't like the gym work anymore, and smartly stayed away.
rocky was smart, between the government, taking there share of the purse, and the scheister of a managers take, he figured it wouldnt be worth it, he would do all the fighting and would make the least. after all that hard training he would have to do.

He was as classy and articulate a champion as he was a killer inside the squared circle. Brute strength, freakish endurance and punching powerful/volume, granite chin and very smart fighter. His style was crafted the great trainer Charlie Goldman to make his lack of reach and height an actual benefit. Bad bad dude inside the ring.
The way he talks about those former greats is awesome. He loved Joe Louis and it shows.
Rocky retired as the Champ in April 1956 at 49-0 with 43KO's. Here...in January 1958...he'd been out of the game for about 21 months...

Marciano, Dempsey and Louis were good fighters... three fighters with three different styles who fought in different eras. Marciano says that they would have the toughest fight of their lives. I'll put this out and finish it... Marciano vs Foreman, the rock would be in his toughest fight ever!

The difference between Marciano and the other greats is that in order to beat Marciano you'd have to kill him. As great as Dempsey and Louis were at their best, I doubt that was the case for either.
And he went on to die at the young age of only 45 in a plane crash.

I'm not real big on boxing. But I do have a pretty good knowledge of boxing history. If Rocky Marciano had come out of retirement around 1960 as he said he thought of doing in another interview. He likely would have eventually fought Ali or Sonny Liston.
If either one of them had defeated Marciano it probably would have been a repeat of the Jack Johnson Jim Jeffries fight of 1910. Maybe even some rioting would have resulted as it did after the Johnson -Jefferies contest.
I do not think there would of been riots if Rocky lost to Ali (Who would of been in his 40's had a fight been sign by that time), the politic issues of the day would of been riots enough as it did happen. There was no riots when when Patterson beat Ingo to regain the title or even when Louis beat Braddock to be the 2nd black champ. If Riots happen, it happen sideside the issue of sports.

Jeffries age 35 dropped 100 lbs to make that fight and wilted in the outdoor southern summer heat and humidity by the 15th round. Losing weight typically means losing strength. Roy Jones Jr was almost untouchable until he dropped out of the heavyweight division to fight again at light heavy. He was never the same after that loss of power and stamina. Whereas the Rock would drop anywhere from 205 to 215 lbs to 185 in training and not only kept his power but added speed and endurance. That's superior nutrition and conditioning beyond any of today's athletes, and in a certain way (like so much of the Marciano story) inexplicable by ordinary measures.

Rocky might have had a hard time with Ali, bigger and faster. But the fighting styles of Dempsey and Louis at their time would have had trouble with Rocky and his crowding, and that Rocky could take punches. They didn't move quite like Ali, so Rocky would have stayed in range and slugged it out. Would've been a show for sure but there is no shoo in on who would win. As much as I like Dempsey and Louis, I think Rocky gets the nod.

Rocky beat a Joe Louis who had already been undisputed heavyweight champion for 12 years, with 25 title defences. He was way past his prime when he was forced out of retirement to pay unjust taxes.

Rocky seemed to have aged quickly. Compare the way he looks and moves in his first Walcott fight to his last fight with Moore.
He wanted to retire at his best and his best he felt no more. How many fighters could say that had nearly 50 fights at 32 and won every single one. He gave his whole life to the game. His wife and daughter deserved him home

There comes a point the size disparity becomes a bridge too far even for a very good smaller fighter.. And this is the reason the Cruiserweight class started in the late 70s. Even a new Bridgerweight (200 to 224lb) division has been added because too many 215lb heavyweights have complained.
(p.s. And don't bring up that 254 lb circus🤡clown he fought called Humphrey "The-Bum" Jackson with his amateurish 4 wins 3 losses record. Same applies to 220lb C-level Shkor who lost 62% of all his fights. And 230lb Bummy-Wilson lost 50% of all his fights)

🐽 Marciano fought three Hall-of-Famer's. I excluded Joe Louis for obvious reasons. Charles and Moore attained that status at LHW not HW!!! And Cruiserweight Walcott lost 41% of all his fights. The rest of Rocky's opponents were mediocre at best and would not be relevant today. Simply put, Rocky was too small and never tested.

The entire 1950s so called 'Heavyweight' division is a joke by today's HW standards. Ring-worn Charles and 41yr old Moore attained their HOF status as Light heavyweights not Heavyweights. BoxRec has them listed -(division: light heavyweight) ..His other two HOF opponents were 39yr old cruiserweight Journeyman Walcott and washed 37yr old Louis.

So after all this time it was the wooden plywood flooring that partially paralyzed Vingo, not Marciano's punch.

ARCHIE MOORE fought for an incredible 27 years. He became the light heavyweight champion at the age of 39 and is the only man to have fought both Rocky Marciano and Muhammad Ali.
Moore, who turned pro in 1936, debuted in the world rankings as a middleweight in the early 1940s. By 1945, Moore moved up to light heavyweight and although he was continually passed over for a title shot, he remained a fixture in the 175-pound rankings. Finally, in 1952, four days after his 39th birthday, Moore secured a shot against light heavyweight champion Joey Maxim. He won the title by decision and held onto it for nearly a decade.
In 1955, Moore attempted to win the heavyweight title from Rocky Marciano. Although he dropped Marciano early in the fight, Marciano rallied and stopped Moore in the ninth round. A year later, after Marciano retired, Moore met Floyd Patterson for the vacant heavyweight crown but was stopped in five.
Moore's age is listed as 49 at the time of the Ali fight in 1962, but some ring experts insist he was actually older since his date of birth has been disputed.

There is 3 other paragraphs i omitted which mostly talks about Archie's light heavyweight accomplishments. I just wanted to include the parts showing Moore's actual factual age. Moore was born Dec.13, 1913 and fought Rocky Sept. 21, 1955 which makes Moore exactly 41 years, 9 months, 8 days old.

Besides Walcott & Moore definitely are Not ATG's. LHW Moore is remembered solely for his longevity and 41% of all Walcott's fights were losses. @@buddha7178 This guy searches out Rocky Marciano vids and copy/pastes the same stuff all the time to try and make it seem like him going undefeated wasn't a big deal, and that he wasn't that great of a boxer. It's pretty much universally agreed on that Archie Moore was one of the best pound-for-pound boxers ever and despite his age, still went 25-3 after his loss to Rocky, only losing to fellow legends Ali and Patterson in the process.
I mean, it's true that Rocky didn't face the insane competition of the mid 60's-early 70's, but the same can be said for many eras of boxing. He didn't exactly face bums, either. He's conveniently leaving out important context like Ezzard Charles being rock-solid (And his career derailed after Marciano crushed him) and Walcott's prime not coming at the conventional age of his late 20's due to his life circumstances. You can see in the videos that he looks to be at his best late in his career. Louis had won 8 in a row before his match with Rocky. Everyone just pretends La Starza doesn't exist, even though he came the closest to beating Rocky in their first match. Apparently being a former light heavyweight means you never become accustomed to being heavyweight and can't succeed in that division. Good thing this guy never advised Floyd Patterson! He'd have told him that he stood no chance as a heavyweight! lol
The man was only knocked down twice in his professional career and we never found out what it would take to KO him. I'm not saying he's the GOAT, but it's a shame that people try and tear down Rocky's accomplishments.

Probably yes, but Marciano fought in the 50s. They didn’t have giants that could fight like Tyson. Tyson would be a problem for everyone Rocky, Ali, Tyson, Louis, Lennox. Doesn’t mean he would beat them all and doesn’t make him the greatest. At the end of the day it’s a fight while it’s not the most likely outcome Rocky could beat him these fighters back in the day were tougher than anyone Fury has or will ever fight. Ali weighed in between 190-230lbs (Ali unfortunately became heavier nearing his end, which is a big reason he started getting hit more often, as his former speed just wasn't all there anymore), Frazier 205lbs, and young George Foreman (surprisingly) fought at 217lbs. Even Prime Sonny Liston only weighed in at 214-218lbs and he also really wasn't that tall. The ref for the Liston/Ali fight was Jersey Joe Walcott, and Liston looked to be about the same size as old Joe. By the time actual *super* heavyweights came into the picture (ignoring Jess Willard and Primo Carnera, those 2 were actual bums that solely relied on size and power) he'd have been WAY too old to compete had he survived. Honestly, the earliest super heavyweights that were any good only really showed up around the Lennox Lewis era (with him being ~245lbs), but even then there were still guys like Holyfield that came in weighing between 210-220lbs.

🐽 Marciano fought three Hall-of-Famer's. I excluded Joe Louis for obvious reasons. Charles and Moore attained that status at LHW not HW!!! And Cruiserweight Walcott lost 41% of all his fights. The rest of Rocky's opponents were mediocre at best and would not be relevant today. Simply put, Rocky was too small and never tested.

I love Rocky Marciano' but I think today he would not be in the heavyweight division but I think he would be in the cruiserweight division. He would probably do well there. I'm not saying he would dominate but he would definitely be in the mix amongst the cruiser weights.
Your statistic of Walcott is rather misleading. Walcott lost a lot a lot of his earlier fights, because he was someone who peaked later than others. He was an average fighter initially who developed into a legit dangerous competitor later on, and then champion. So Walcott in his late 30s was better than most fighters in their late 30s. He was like what Karl Malone was in the NBA. Someone who’s better in year 15 than in year 3.
And for the umpteenth time you state that Walcott lost 41% of his fights. His record was 49-20-1. He lost nowhere near 41% of his fights.
