Fantomas did a whole album of covers of horror/ thriller film themes called The Directors Cut. Their cover of Twin Peaks:Fire Walk With Me is brilliant. Its like dirty mixed up trip-hop.

mike patton is a phenomenal singer, probably the most versatile singer out there but above all, he's an artist. he doesnt do what he does for fame or attention, he's just trying to push the limits either ppl like it or not

      @roxannemitchell4119 3 года назад +5

That's what I love about Mike, he just does what he wants, he doesn't care if people like it or not, he doesn't care about being popular, I love his integrity

  • @roxannemitchell4119

Well I guess you didn't hate it so that's good lol your face was great when Buzz came in with that guitar, people usually either love it or really dislike his sound. I thought this cover would be the best way to introduce Fantomas as I thought you would know the song and it's not too heavy, Fantomas are one of Mikes heavier projects and they are quite dark. That was Dave Lombardo from Slayer on Drums and Trevor Dunn from Mr.Bungle on bass
I don't think you could even compare it to the original, it's not meant to be compared, it's just art to me, but anyway I think it's awesome, once again thank you for the reaction 😃

It's definitely a good starting point to Fantomas! I'd love to see his reaction to Godfather from the New Year dvd.

@Roxanne Mitchell We fans are well acquainted with this issue, yes, we have already completed it ... :)
Well, Roxie, I've been researching on this topic ... :) And if you accept, I'd like to help you with that. :)
U agree? OK. Here`s the thing: many here think that Twin Peaks is another icebreaker...and I think the same.:)
So, we will make a top list of the most probable requests in strict order, if you don't mind? OK. In my opinion, it should go like this:
      1. Twin Peaks - Fire Walk with Me... Should I explain at all.:) It`s got all - the juices, the flow, the energy... however, there are still the lyrics, and "the lyrics are the enemy of Fantomas", hahahah.... well, next on the list should be deff. be something without it, something that represents the true nature of this band in all its glory, right? Let's go then, let's move on to ...
      2. The Godfather - the movie... Yes, we`ll stick to that album of covers for now.;) This song is so impressive with it`s cinematic significance that many have simply forgotten ... that there are no lyrics in it!! :))) So, yes, it represents a true nature of Fantomas, it`s richly produced, has a radical changes of music & rhythm, dynamics & energy - this baby can fly....:))
      3. Page #3, but also a title that you can find here on YT, which reads like this: "Fantomas Live Pages: 6, 8, 9, 10 & 12" ..... We are in the middle of their debut-album now! As they say `if you gotta go, go with the fire..` It`s an initial spark of this band, where it clearly demonstrates it`s abilities and philosophy, so to speak... Now, it would be good if Jay could combine these 2 videos into 1 reaction, because the first mentioned song is so short in time.:))) It could be like a special, spicy introductory part, which shows the brilliant and most interesting moments of this band to him...:) The rest of the show refers to their real live sound, closely related to their real concert art, arranged by the example that this Medley reveals .:))) So, this live Medley shows the real diversity of their album, it stands out of the rest of the videos. Look at these 2 babes and say do U agree?:) If so, than we can rock with this true `shazam` of theirs...:) and quickly go to....
      4. 04/03/05 Sunday... And now we`re in the territory of the "Suspended Animation", yeap, their last album.:) This song shows a band in a built-in procedure..:) Everything here is perfect - dynamics, energy, rhythm.:) Go with it.:)
      5. 04/13/05 - Wednesday....Creativity that comes from the use of samplers and sound effects goes with this :)
      6. 04/06/05 Wednesday... Finally, something that will point to their diversity in one song, the way Bungle does. :)
OK, this is just a rough list, but look at it and give me your opinion, what`s ya think about it...Bye 4 now.:))

I love Jay Rah!!! He's so open minded and passionate. Fantastic channel.
I worship Al Green, he's the greatest singer in the history of music in my opinion and Mike Patton proves on this track that he can walk near Al Green and not look like a wannabe. He's incredible at everything. I'm so fortunate to have seen Patton at least 15 times, but I drove to Memphis and watch Al Green notably do a sermon, he also anointed me at service. Best day of my life.

the guitarist Buzz Osborne was definitely doing it on purpose, him and his band The Melvins were one of the founders of Sludge Metal which is a very complex fusion genre that is kinda hard to describe without just endless synonyms for the word dirty

Someone just mentioned the Twin Peaks video... a perfect one! That's Dave Lombardo from Slayer on drums. He's in Mike's new Mr. Bungle band too. He's in my top three for sure... I have mentioned Mike does some crazy stuff, even though him and his voice is probably in a top list too...

Apart from this particular song, you could already come to a conclusion that Mike Patton is not `your` ordinary heavy metal singer... :) Just compare this guy to any classic metal hero: Bruce Dickinson from Iron Maiden, James Hetfield from Metallica, .... the only similar to him I find in Phil Anselmo from Pantera...maybe `cause they`re both born in the same year - 1968.:) But it`s not only that...Seems to be they both have something quite unusual to a heavy metal genre - a soul, baby! :) That`s right. `What`s with this dude anyway!?` Well, let`s see:) "You can only sing like Michael Jackson, nice and gentle stuff, or you can yell and shout in some punk and noise band - there`s no in between, man!.." Well, Mike Patton came up to prove everyone wrong, he`s a radical precedent to this old school opinion.:))) Ever since he showed up in FNM, metal world was astonished by his "sinful" ability to input a delightfully funky-soul-pop singing into such music, which was so strange and such a `no- no` for that time, where the cards were strictly divided among the musical population. "Only metal",said the ones..."Only rap", the others..."Only pop, disco, soul..", the third ones, "F..off ya all, punk`s not dead", yelled the fourth ones... Well, no undertaker - here comes a peacemaker...:)) Mike boldly shared his unity looks to the world, and everybody was: "Stop! Patton-time!" :))) Ever since, he just continued doing his own way, always fresh, and seemingly tireless and unbeatable...He`s the keeper of many talents, ready to share them when the time comes, a living legend...yet, this word `legend` is his worst fear and enemy - how humble he is - he sees it as a vanity, and obstacle for a creative living...as he says in one FNM song: "When you die, you'll become something worse than dead. You'll become ...A legend." Something to think about, ha?:) Like that other saying: "I`ll sleep when I`m dead.." There`s a job to be done, we`re not stoppin`, ever...:)) This kind of everlasting vitality, agility and creativity of his I can only magically explain by the fact that he was born on the same exact date as a famous German classical composer, yeah, a himself prodigal child known as - Mozart...:) It will be this month, 27th.;) So, lets find some compass of his by that date.:) This and earlier said have helped a little, yeah?:) So...
    1. Faith No More were progressive for any music by that time....
    2. Mr. Bungle were highly eclectic for any sooner band...
After these two had split circa 2000, Patton came up with even more radical stuff, gathered by the name:
    3. FANTOMAS ( "The Masked One")...energizing, almost unbearable, noise avant-garde metal band, with a name taken from a French pre-World War One crime literature, which tells a story of a super-individual, a super-criminal mind, with amazing mental and physical abilities, with a criminal schemes that wast so wide, wild and unbelievable that sur-realists of that time simply adored him in his adventures. He wore a mask so that no one could ever know his real identity, masked replicas of significant human faces over his own face were even included in most of his criminal secret missions....basically, a very advanced robber, who was taking the advantage of city of Paris to get to whatever blazing thing he wants and falls in love with...:):D One of it was a charming lady, a baroness that has fell deeply and fear(less)ly in love to this gruesome person, to become his apprentice in crime...WoW!:) Patton came up to this by living in Italy near the end of the `9o, having also a woman by his side - the Italian fashion model (=being in mariage) and reading a comic version of this character called "Diabolic", so that name was in circulation first...Eventually, he change it to the original - Fantomas. Sadly, he divorced, yet this strange band continued throughout the 2000`s...It`s main catch is not to use any single meaningful word in it - there are only yells, growls and screams, like in some comic book or a kung-fu or an action movie.:)) Yet, from time to time, strangely, you could also hear a tender, silent, feminine, soulful voice out of a sudden...:) It`s some sort of Patton`s musical praise to a dynamics of life in it`s own concentrating manifestation...that`s how I take it.:) And I`ll tell ya this: i`ve watched your face on that heavy guitar parts and, do correct me if i`m wrong, but...it`s like I saw a trace of ...i don`t wanna say `forcefully`, but intently generated mental security, which comes as a surprise mainly for a listener himself, if not for a performer too...!:) And I`m guessing that this is the mystical place where Patton excitement for his own strangest project erupts in the most pleasurable way for him.:) And according to a previously said, the covers with the standard lyrics in here comes as a unusual precedent in this out-of-the-world musical concept, where a songs even don`t have a particular names. They are more like (a book page) numbers, or the dates...Fantastic, isn`t it!:)) Anyways, I took much time of yours and mine..!:) It would be satisfactory though if I have made you more interested for a musical journey further down the path for this remarkable singer. Sorry if I took you too much minutes, man.... Cheers!

Mike can do a better job covering all vocals but Fantomas is known for making many abstract crazy aggressive screams and shouts and abstract metal lol Fantomas is Mike's most aggressive weird side weirder then bungle. Bungle is more creative and more ambitious when it comes to mixing over 40 genres into their discography then Fantomas.

My man Dave Lombardo killing it on the drums. He was the original (main and only one to me) drummer from slayer. And I agree with you thinking that guitar part had to be purposeful. They're probably trying to be weird kind of like Primus or something. But Primus' guitarist can hit every wrong note on purpose and still make it sound great.

I am a purist with certain songs/artists and this is one. I love the purity of what he did with it, but...he did have to paint it Mike ;) gotta love him! And I didn't necessarily appreciate Buzz's guitar "interpretation". I've worked with guitarists who did that without trying - lol!

Yeah when you're King Buzzo from The Melvins with over 40 years of music under your belt it's intentional altho I agree his guitar was a bit harsh on the ears. I agree with others I love their Twin Peaks cover having listened to the original soundtrack from the TV show this encapsulates the Twin Peaks vybe and Pattons voice is gorgeous and on point as always, my Fave Tomahawk song is Point and Click I can never listen to it just once!
