So... you might be wondering how we found out about seaweed as cow feed. It started in Canada when a farmer found that seaweed actually increased milk production as well as reproduction in dairy cows. After some research, he found that the seaweed also made them less gassy. Australian researchers started using different types of seaweed until they discovered that, in lab studies, the red seaweed Asparagopsis was hypereffective at reducing methane.

The global 14.5% GHG Emissions for livestock from the FAO Livestock’s long shadow is not a fair comparison of emissions across all the sectors because for livestock they used a complete life cycle analysis whereas for transportation they used tailpipe emissions only, not the entire life cycle analysis. According to the EPA, all livestock only represents 3.9% of the US GHG emissions, which is far lower than the 18-51% range many plant based advocates report.
Or, you know, we could just consume less meat? Vegan burgers are getting closer and closer to the real thing. 100 people cutting their meat consumption by half is better than 10 people going full vegetarian.
Why not tackle the problems directly by not breeding billions of land animals into existence in the first places if there are viable alternatives for protein, vitamins and minerals? The proposition of fixing emissions from the animal farming industry seems like running away from the problem and trying to fix a cracked wall with a band-aid. the fact that a climate change video is sponsored by an airline is, frankly, ridiculous. this IS interesting information, but we all know an even better way to improve the planet, so why don't we focus on something other than a possible percentage of four percent of emissions
We could also reduce emotions by cutting on consumption. We are looking at solutions that only prolong the causes of the problem. Carbon capture, putting algae on cows, I mean. The sistem is unsustainable and we need to change it, not try to take an aspirin and keep going until it collapses
Funny how this video is sponsored by an airline when planes have also the biggest carbon emissions. That aside its interesting how we can come up with revolutionary ideas like feeding sea weed to cows to reduce the methane. When there's a problem there's a solution. Ig

Eat vegetarian food in a way that satisfies all your nutritional needs, get enough high quality protein. I think some fish and eggs are good for the best diet but other than that you don't need meat at all. Beef is really bad for the environment as you know, even compared to other meat.
Also you should really do research as to which labels you can trust, and Google the companies to see what the labels really mean. Free range, or cage free chicken for example just means they're not in cages, but they can be in completely cramped factory farms, living their lives in misery for human consumption. Look for certified humane if you want some confidence, but even then there's no guarantee that it's true- look at how each label is regulated by the USDA.
@@muhammadadambinmohdrazihan9988 Free range beef is actually worse for the planet, around 50% of arable land is already taken up for livestock grazing. Factory farming is actually better for the environment considering it massively cuts down on land use in a way rotational grazing can't. Switching to 100% organic free range meat would quite literally mean clearing every single forest on earth for an unsustainable food source, an increase in land use equivalent to North America
@@muhammadadambinmohdrazihan9988 Try eating plant-based meat alternatives, 90% of soya and corn are used to feed animals so eating animal products is not only killing the planet its responsible for world hunger

So first were cattle farts a climate catastrophe and now are burbs too? 🤣
Fun Fact: There were roughly the same number of bison in North America in 1400 as there are cows today.
This is a classic case of industry diverting attention from more pressing environmental issues.

If this video was made by Mr. Beast, it’d be “We gave 10,000 cows a sheet of nori during each meal and the cow with the least methane emission gets $10,000.”
Let cows eat sushi
I wonder if this could help people who have gastrointestinal problems that cause excess gas. Does anyone ever use this seaweed ad an anti gas medicine?
Not farming them to begin with would be preferable and eliminate the problem entirely. Bandaid ‘fixes’ aren’t actual solutions.
We need to eat more beef to avoid this problem 😋
That's what I thought 🤤
Stop eating cows
Cow farts are NOT a problem. Look, "problem" solved.
oh man the irony of this video being sponsored by Delta. yeesh
Or, you know, we could just consume less meat? Vegan burgers are getting closer and closer to the real thing. 100 people cutting their meat consumption by half is better than 10 people going full vegetarian.
I'll eat what I want. You eat what you want. Cheers.
@chriskay7233 no one said you couldn't, sweetie
Seaweed may help but like, the best way to deal with animal agriculture killing the planet is to stop animal agriculture.
how about just dont farm cows?
Why not tackle the problems directly by not breeding billions of land animals into existence in the first places if there are viable alternatives for protein, vitamins and minerals? The proposition of fixing emissions from the animal farming industry seems like running away from the problem and trying to fix a cracked wall with a band-aid. Eat less meat, more plant-based products and let do lab grown meat do it’s thing if people want to eat something that corresponds 1-to-1 to meat from animals.
You didnt watch the video completely or you are just ignorant
Lab grown meat is not the same. Be careful what you wish for

@@bradymccann I think that would be a personal choice. I personally probably wouldn’t consume it. Some people would however.
I will recycle, I will save power, I will drive an electric car, I will take public transport when I can and use my bike for smaller errands, I will buy used clothes and air dry it. What I cant make myself do is eat less meat. I already dont eat meat 2 days a week - I think that is good enough
I am going to go out in my 90 foot fishing vessel that burns 60 000 liters a week of diesel and scrap the seaweed off the ocean floor to stop climate change
1.5 billion cows on this planet is equivalent to 5 people for 1 cow?
Why is no one else talking about this!!!
False. it’s the amount of cows we farm that are the problem not the cow itself.
I have one important question. How was the experiment being conducted to conclude the methane production was reduce by 95%? Like, method used and on what scale to be specific.
Just asking....
Are there Less animals walking around, living etc..

Humans causing 90% of the issue but still we gotta focus on the 10% done by other animals
Well humans are causing that issue as well by mass breeding animals in the billions every year, just to slaughter them and eat them. You can just eat plants. Easy enough
Has anyone thought of eating less meat as a solution, and supporting the organic businesses that are doing more for the planet than cow seaweed and the welfare of cows
Now do one about how much Farts humans produce.
the fact that a climate change video is sponsored by an airline is, frankly, ridiculous. this IS interesting information, but we all know an even better way to improve the planet, so why don't we focus on something other than a possible percentage of four percent of emissions
come on xD climate explained by delta?? thats why changing peoples habits is not an option. better make the planes burp less! no cows! what
oh and maybe delta also helps with shipping seaweed, i mean with e fuels its carbon neutral right? right?
There are 20,000 jet liners flying in the sky RIGHT NOW. Why don’t you deal with THAT emission, genius?
DELTA AIRLINES HAHAHAHAH
Cattle emissions do not accumulate in the atmosphere, they break down meaning methane levels reach a particular level and stays there.
We could also reduce emotions by cutting on consumption. We are looking at solutions that only prolong the causes of the problem. Carbon capture, putting algae on cows, I mean. The sistem is unsustainable and we need to change it, not try to take an aspirin and keep going until it collapses
yeah promoting less beef and dairy product would be better than just feeding the creatures something else...
Funny how this video is sponsored by an airline when planes have also the biggest carbon emissions. That aside its interesting how we can come up with revolutionary ideas like feeding sea weed to cows to reduce the methane. When there's a problem there's a solution. Ig
GHG emissions from the cows themselves are no problem.
I think that theres no problem with delta presenting. Aviation accounts for 2.5%, and is impossible to change while cows are much easier to fix
Easy? How? Only real way is reduce consumption. See Poore and Nemecek 2018: “Consumers can achieve emissions reductions at a scale not available to producers”
it accounts for 2.5% of emmisions, but 4% of human induced global warming. It's just as bad as the cows.
Easier than convincing the masses to be conscious
Yeah, tell that to the the hundreds of millions of poor people in the world that rely un cattle to barely reach their caloric needs. You are a one percenter
Pretty sure most of the remaining impoverished world is relying on grains, not livestock.
World: Lower emissions
Delta Airlines: Yeah, lower emissions.
Cows: Okay, but why us first?
Tell them to stop cutting down trees to pour concrete
If we can spend just half of the research money on teaching cows to swim, we could move all cows offshore, and let them graze in the sea.
who is behind the conspiracy to keep cows landlocked? we all know that their ancestors could swim before humans enslaved them. this is the solution nobody is talking about
Wait I am so confused if there are 8 billion people on the earth how is 1.5 billions cows = 5 cows per person??? Someone explain!!!
As neat as this is, I find it hard to take climate change advice from an airline :/

All I can suggest is that asking for donations followed by sponsored content is not the way content production should have gone.
The burping is a tiny fraction of the amount of greenhouse gases emitted and environmental damage done in raising cattle. Cutting that tiny percentage won't stop the far larger problems of soil depletion and deforestation.
This doesn't solve the problem of wildlife destruction caused by cattle farming. We waste so much of our land raising cattle and growing food for them. I suggest a meat tax to really stop people's behaviour! Do people really care if their McDonalds burger is a vegan one? They mostly care about the cost.

Cow burps are not a climate problem; cows are a climate problem. It doesn't matter if you change their diet, they, along with all animal agriculture, is inherently bad for the environment and the climate. Promoting small changes like this does nothing; it might actually make things worse.
These comments did not disappoint 😂😂😂
This doesn’t account for the mass deforestation caused by raising cows or food for them to eat. Farming animals that need to eat plants is always a more environmentally inefficient system. Not surprised based on the sponsor of this video that real solutions aren’t being considered
Would it reduce any carbon emissions if we stopped cutting down so many trees for a year?

Please investigate how rotational grazing is actually carbon neutral. Cows arent the problem, its industrial factory farms that are. Guess where the tons and tons of carbon rich soil of the midwest came from? Tall grass and grazing animals.
