My energy saving tip is when you're making mashed potatoes slice potatoes up as thinly as possible this saves a lot of cooking time, also if you're planning to have boiled eggs that day or the next Pop then in with the potatoes x

I used to do exactly that with the boiled spuds and an egg. One of my favourite lunches is a potato salad with an egg! Haven’t had it for a while, think that is going to be lunch for today. Thanks for the tip! :)

Good tips! This is slightly unusual. My mom and 2 friends had a beautiful birthday card they used (and reused) between the 3 of them for 15 yrs. The birthday girl kept the card until the next birthday. The gifts were always flowers (May, June, September) from their gardens (the 3 each had gardens).

Flowers from your own garden are more special I have a tiny crystal vase bought from hospice shop for a pound and it looks exquisite with a few sprigs of lavender and some oregano. No need for shop bought blooms.

I heat enough water to fill the flask/thermos. Since I have to pay for the electricity anyway, I maximize it😊 Plenty of water for tea all day long! I use bar soap, too. But I love the convenience of the dispenser, especially in the kitchen. So I add the little slivers of soap, throw them into a pretty pump bottle, and add warm water. A few shakes to melt the soap and we have liquid soap 👌
Thank you for sharing your tips. There are a few new ones I can apply 😁I always recycle gift bags. And if I get a particularly gorgeous card, I will use it as a postcard by just cutting off the side with the greeting on it and writing something on the back of the part I'm mailing.

Just started recently to keep boxes, paper and packaging that comes into the house. I used bubble wrap and grey paper this morning to make an envelope for a package I had to post. I needed some boxes for organising a wardrobe and used the boxes that came in, instead of buying the plastic ones I had in mind. Really beginning to think about what I am putting into the recycling bin that perhaps I can use. You are so right about the gift wrapping and generic brands. Tks for sharing.

Hi Mum! It is fun to be frugal! I have my areas that I am frugal, and my areas that I am not! Being extra clean in certain areas of life, and a perfectionist I struggle and can't be fully frugal. I am conscious of it and try! I do use cheap bar soap! We use a lot, also it tends to be better in keeping the drain clear. Only for my body I will use a beauty bar.(Dove, Ivory etc) I have used tea bags twice, its not really a great cup of tea though! I use Lipton, Twinnings,Tetley, King Cole, I thought they were good brands. I do know it is a definite way to save! I save my clothes by washing inside out and hanging up! Saves the color and less wear on fabric! Thanks for sharing!!☕☕🫖

Rice and pasta: a leading bowel specialist who was treating my sister told us about a study he had headed up comparing the effects on health of wholegrain rice, pasta, cereals and bread to those of the cheaper, white versions. The conclusion was that the wholegrain versions put too much strain on the gut and were one of the leading causes of the rise in IBS and other bowel problems. He told us that the relevant health departments, authorities, governments, whatever had been advised but were unable to push for change as the hugely powerful cereal lobby had invested so heavily in convincing people to eat their 'healthier' (more expensive and therefore profitable) wholegrain products and were not prepared to change tack. He said it was like smoking: as long as the tax income was greater than the cost to the NHS (in the UK) and work days lost, there would be no change; once those costs outweighed the tax income we would see a change, as we did with smoking. So don't eat wholegrain and don't feel guilty. Clara :)))

I'm retired now and have had to tighten our belts and budget even more now our income is reduced. I've always been good at saving money even since I was a child. Regarding the packaging, I sometimes reuse it as packaging but some of the pretty gift bags I cut up and make handmade cards with them, friends are quite surprised to learn this. Also I notice young families always make tea with a teabag in a cup for each person. I've always used a teapot as it gets more from the teabags, in fact I have two teapots, a large one for a crowd, and a smaller one for 4 people. I always felt this a better use of teabags. Unless of course you use 1-cup teabags, which I believe are a bit more expensive anyway. Good tips from you though, tfs.

What a lovely idea to use the packaging for gift cards. As for the tea bags, I use the same one over and over if it’s just me and like you I do use a pot for larger numbers- that way I can sneak ‘out’ a teabag or two!😆 thanks for watching:)

Am terrible for dumping out the water in the kettle to boil fresh water each time but I do try to only put in a little amount of water at a time and not fill up the kettle. I also reuse my tea bags but I must say I can taste the difference in brand of rice so I am specific to the brand I get. I usually get a large 16kg bag of the brand of rice I like once a year and have a large tube I transfer it to in my pantry. For pasta any brand would do, am not picky and I also do buy in bulk whenever it’s on sale, I pick up many bags at a time. These days with the prices of things going up. You really do have to watch the Pennies and I switch back and forth between bar soap and liquid soap. I love bar soaps and get them a lot as presents. And you are right bar soap last longer, I am still using a pack I got from Christmas that smells like apple and cinnamon.

All chemicals have a dilution ratio, find this out by getting the data sheet from the company. Measure how much water your mop bucket holds, work out how much cleaning stuff needs to go into that amount of water. Write this on a piece of paper, stick it to the side of the mop bucket and cover with sellotape to stop the paper getting wet. Over the year this will save you money, every little helps.

I may sound like a Scrooge, but gift bags and present wrappers make me depressed for Christmas. They are so expensive and just horribly wasteful. For large family gift exchange, it's literally throwing huge amount of money onto a landfill. I also save and recycle them, but inevitably after every gift exchange there are two large trash bags filled with torn paper. We really need to rethink what we're doing here; the whole concept is bad.

We do a lot of those!!! I use bar soap for my shower & my bathroom soap. Main bathroom has an auto drip (very small amount) when hand is placed under it & a bar of soap for who ever would like to use it instead. Kitchen has a pump soap but when I tried to buy out bath & body works a few years ago (only slightly kidding) with a few gift cards, I’m still using up all of that soap up. It’s been YEARS since I’ve needed to buy soap. It’s seriously crazy. Bought a TON of liter bottles of shampoo & conditioner when a well known beauty store shut down. It’s been at least 4 years ago. Still going strong. Haven’t needed to buy any of that since either. It’s crazy how long things last especially when you are frugally using it up & not wasting it all.

Bar soap has now doubled in price, it’s currently 30 pence -mind you that’s still pretty cheap. You’re right it’s amazing how long things last-I think being frugal helps though!😀 Thanks for watching:)
