It happened to me that I can listen to the wounderful song "PUPPET ON A STRING". This song sings the wellknown british singer Sandie Shaw. I remember weil this song. At 1967 I was a young man - 17 years old. Sandie Shaw sung this song during the show "grand prix de la chanson" in the year 1967 at Vienna. At that time she was the winner of the "grand prix de la chanson".
Love this song. My grandparents had it playing on their CD player last year some time and I fell in love with the rhythm and even the words grew on me.
I love this song, and prefer music from this era to anything made after I was born (mid-80s). However, the 60s - early 70s had some of the shortest skirts I can think of. Sandie is dressed very conservatively in this performance, but at Eurovision, she is in a Baby Doll dress. It's not the shortest style you'd see from the era, but it is a rather short skirt. Fashion is such an odd thing. People look at Sandie's outfit today and pine for days gone by, because it is viewed as more reserved, more elegant, or what have you. This was 50 years ago, so let's put ourselves in the mind of someone who grew up in the early 20th century...they'd probably think that her pants we unbecoming of a woman; too masculine; and say she ought to be in a dress....time makes fools of us all
@@Mike8981 That's true. Sandie may have been wearing trousers in this studio performance but she often wore very short skirts too. Almost every girl wore them in the 1960s.
WHAT? I've never seen Sandie with a hairstyle like this! It really complements her beauty. Oh, she was such a living doll! She reminds me of Lynda Carter (Wonder Woman)
The beautiful Sandra from Dagenham; when you look like that and can sing like that, what more do you need. Apparently, she hates the song because despite a fairly extensive canon of work, she is always asked to reprise this extremely catchy track! God Bless Her!
Other artists have the same live hate relationship with their best hit… but I think it was Tom Jones when asked if he hated being always asked to sing Delilah.. who said certainly not, it was better than not being asked to sing it..
The melody and (in general) just the lyrics, really make you love the song. I mean, who doesn't find: ''Like a puppet on a string-'' Catchy, especially because of how she sings it.
Thomas i like you comment , its short and sweet . i agree with you , i have always adored this lovely woman her voice , dress , hair and beauty have always beguiled me lol Jane x
Not really! There was the Vietnam War and demonstrations and protests in many countries around the world against it. There was also, among other things, the Six Day War. Malcolm x. Many countries detonated nuclear bombs etc.

@@oughtonoughton2634 Hi Jane, 04:55 and wide awake, a retired pensioner. Sandie Shaw aka Sandra Ann Goodrich. The songs that I liked very much before the Euro Song Contest in 67 were: Always Something There to Remind Me in 1965, this and the following from 65 were far better choices with - Girl Don't Come , Monsieur Dupont , Long Live Love and Message Understood I remember Sandie Shaw in 1967 participating in the Eurovision Song Contest with the dreadful Puppet On A String, I understand that it was not her finest from her own comment, and to me a bad choice. Her song became a UK hit single of which I did not like at all, based upon my likes from 1965, that’s the new song two years later.
Such a cute, pretty song but I dont like the awful honky tonk carnival noises. Petula Clark would have ridden this to number one everywhere. But she would have slowed it down and ditched the loonie Circus noises. Many years ago I heard this song played by a band mariachi style with big time brass. The song was hotter than Lonely Bull,Mexican Shuffle,or Spanish Flea and we all remember how catchy they were. Of course,I thought it was Herb and the boys but it wasnt. I then thought the Baja Marimba band but it wasnt them either. To this day Ive not found who did the instrumental. It played either during the New York 1964 World Fair or Expo 67 Montreal
I adore this song. It remembers me my childness! What a lot of souvenirs! Thank you! Merci beaucoup!

Could not fail to win Eurovison in 1967, and would win it again if new in 2020 !. Perfect for Sandie, clever lyric and great arrangement.
Sensational track, no gimmicks, no short skirts, the quality of the vocals and the simple but genius lyrics done it.
And no shoes.

ha ha ha! Sandy wore a VERY short skirt when she first sang this! Of course sex was not invented in the 1960s was it? lol

Ain't she so beautiful,x
indeed so
What a beautiful Women and Song! Love her! Way back to 1967!
Love this song!!!
The studio recording was pitchy. This was perfect - and live!
Exactly. This is much better than the studio version.
So much smoother & laid back, tonal quality is much easier on ear
Very beautiful song. An all time hit
This song likes a polka - but Sandy pulls it off!!!
Last Night In Soho anybody?
the soundtrack was so good

Brilliant.
Our Mazza is the real deal when it comes to being a puppet on a string.
Apparently my doctor was singing this when delivering me. It had just won.
I look after a guy that sings this and incorporates his own lyrics when he forgets the words. That's how I found this (surprisingly). Funny song 😁
My heartthrob, forever ❤️ ♥️ 🇬🇧
Now this is the swinging 60s

When the world was someway normal.
Not really! There was the Vietnam War and demonstrations and protests in many countries around the world against it. There was also, among other things, the Six Day War. Malcolm x. Many countries detonated nuclear bombs etc.
The mainstreaming sexualisation of youth , women, drugs, homosexuality and nudity in films. The beginning of a perverted normal.
um I love this
trying to figure out what kind of horn is making that tuba-like sound, cos' it seems like not quite a tuba.
Just for you Maria, reminds me so much of u.
Gorgeous lady but smooth hair suites her much more
I agree she looks dreadful in wigs!
Awesome!

When people wore sensible clothes, like the curtains for trousers.
With bells on too.
Satan got all these celebrities like Puppets on a String.
That's what this song is about.
Forget Taylor Swift! I like this Women much Better!
hahaha I come from this video just because of this song hahahha "Everything wrong with "First Man" and the moon landings ✞

Is it me, or just huge similarities to Caren Carpenter ? The way she looks and sings ?
She was before Caren Carpenter- Sandie is prettier don't you think? But I agree they sound similar.
