It’s because of religion going away, people looking for purpose and finding it in causes and government, productivity has decoupled from wages and thirty years of institutional capture has bred an intentional radical movement. The biggest example of this is how in the 60s we crowded around the TV to watch the moon landing and now we crowd around our screens to watch award shows for the elites, sports, and social media fame more than anything else. Humanity has lost its drive to explore and thus purpose.
It's hard to turn your focus away from politics when it's pushed in your face in so many different ways. I love video games, and that has become very political with left-leaning characters and ideologies being shoehorned into games. Shows and movies obviously suffer from it. Even professional sports have been politicized. It's like no matter where you turn you're subjected to political issues.

Zuby is exactly right about the toxic political climate in the US.There are many reasons for it.An uninformed,tribal,and emotional electorate is at the core.Our current Presidential candidates are a reflection of this...You get the government you deserve.

No, most people have not acknowledged that both candidates are bad options for the US. I don't know where you heard that.
Trump actually has a massive following of supporters who feel he's an excellent option for the US. He consistently has thousands of people come to his rallies whereas Biden has only a few hundred or so come, while his rallies are heavily orchestrated to make it appear like he's popular. There is plenty of very reliable video evidence on X.
Most people? I know many people who definitely think one of those candidates will be excellent for the United States.
