I love how the dude lists "roller blades", then shows us old school roller skates.
I think you guys missed that the “Gator” in Gatorade stands for the fact that the team the drink was invented for were the Florida Gators.
There was a lot of talking over the video.
@@donna8818 They constantly do that. Irritating.
IT WAS THE FIRST SPORTS DRINK!

101 years before you were born. Lol
"gas" in the US does refer to the gaseous state of matter. Additionally we will use the term "gas" as a stand in term for natural gas (methane). But it also is short for "gasoline", which is how it is used here.
"gasoline" and its older variants (cazoline, gazoline, etc...) predates the term "petrol" by some years as it relates to this particular product.
Very well put. We say "gas" for a number of things in the US, and gasoline is almost always referred to as just "gas"
Also "petrol" as in petroleum is what gasoline are diesel are refined from. So technially "gas" is more correct than "petrol".
Gasoline is a PETROLEUM product. So, basically, ‘petrol’ is incorrect. Can’t even explain how little I care about this. I only think of these things when people try and make fun of how the US uses language. It’s like soccer, the Brit’s came up with that one as well
And gasoline was a British term
Surfing originated in Hawaii and is known as the sport of Kings in ancient Hawaii. We have chants and songs that talk about it from generations ago but it is totally a Hawaiian sport that got adopted by the rest of the world.
Duke Kahanamoku had a big influence.
NO they werent lmao,
before speaking out of your ass do a 5 minute google search and youll know it originated in polynesia, not hawaii.
@@gaylegarza4711 he had nothing to do with the invention of surfing in Polynesia in the 12th century, he was born in Hawaii, surfing was born in Polynesia and brought to Hawaii in 400 C.E by Polynesians who discovered Hawaii, not sure about you but 400 C.E is a lot older than his birth date in 1890
@Atheos B. Sapien (Ubi dubium ibi liberatas) lol buddy he is referring to the first statement made by the OP, and I responded with the truth that his influence on surfing and Hawaii did not have anything to do with the invention of surfing as he insinuated it did, never once did I say they were the same thing, before you speak like you know shit maybe look at the context on the situation first
@Atheos B. Sapien (Ubi dubium ibi liberatas) but since you know so much about what dude was talking about please enlighten me, whats his influence have to do with the invention of surfing? yea exactly nothing because he was insinuating they had some type of relevancy to the convo when in fact it didn't and if you couldn't identify that then maybe you don't know English as well as you think you do
A wet suit is designed to keep your body temperature normal but a diving suit is ridden forced so you can go down really deep
The Transistor is a HUGE invention. It is basically the basis for all modern electronics, without it modern electronics, everything that has any type of circuit board in it of any type has transistors, cells phones and modern computers of all types could not exist without it. The modern world would not exist as we know it without the transistor.
Yes! I was so surprised the narrator just blew over it like it was some petty piece of technology, lol.
I think Europeans are the only people who think Tommy Hilfiger is fashionable
They didn't say Levi Strauss invented Levi's, they said he invented blue jeans, in general. Denim trousers weren't a thing before that.
It was invented for farmers who wanted very durable pants.
Love Levis! They fit well, look good and last a long time.
A diving suit and a wetsuit are two different things. You use a wetsuit when you skindive with tanks you use a diving suit with heavy weights to keep you down and air pumped through a hose from a ship or barge on the surface so you can down for longer periods.
Gatorade was the first sports drink with electrolytes.
Everybody knows Romy and Michele invented post-it notes LOL
A guy form Minnesota invented the water ski. That should be more important than the rollerblade.
Lol I get irritated whenever Brits think SURFING was invented in Australia. When you think of surfer dude, you don't think of an Australian accent 😂😂😂
Worth noting, it was *made popular* in Hawaii. The oldest references discovered show it first in 12th century Polynesia.
@@umaiar Hawaiians are descended from Polynesians. Still not Australian.
@@jariemonah And still not Hawaiian 🤷♂️
@@umaiar And my point was that Brits think Australians invented it. And not the aboriginal kind of Australians, mind you.
@@umaiar I also noticed that you're only trying to correct me, and not the other several commenters saying Hawaiians invented it. 😂😂😂
For Texas I’d definitely go with the integrated circuit, invented by Jack Kilby of Texas Instruments. He also later led the team that invented the hand calculator - which wouldn’t have been possible without the IC.
Texas Instruments invented some amazing things over the years.
The hand held calculator is one thing but they also invented the first scientific and graphing calculator.
From the late 80s up until now every highschool student and a good proportion of college students owned or own a TI Scientific Graphing Calculator.
They cornered the education in the same way Michael Dell did from the 90s on with the Dell desktop computer and later their laptops.
If you went into any public school in Texas by about 1996/7 their computer labs or classroom computers were from Dell 90% of the time.
It wasn't too much longer the rest of America followed suit.
@@christianoliver3572 my first two years in Texas I lived across a cow pasture from the Dell campus in Round Rock.
@@Big_Tex My parents lived in Westlake close to Austin Country Club and I remember when Michael Dell built that monstrosity of a house on either Carryback or Riva Ridge.
It looked like they were building some kind of warehouse on the top of a hill there but it turned out that he built a metal framed house.
I used to drive by the gate to his house that kinda looks more like a compound on an almost daily basis.
Kilby co-founded the integrated circuit with Robert Noyce, who I had the pleasure of knowing him and his wife back in 1990 just before his untimely death in Austin, TX.
@@dirks4093 Funny enough I saw Kilby in Austin in about 2001, when he gave a speech there. Kilby was first to make an IC, but if I recall right, it wasn't really mass-producible. Noyce solved that problem quickly thereafter. As I understand the story, there initially was some fighting for credit but instead of devolving into a Newton vs Leibniz war, Kilby and Noyce reached an agreement to consider each other co-inventors, and to the end of their days they were both generous and graceful about sharing credit.
One of the best things about your channel is the banter and the discussions that the two of you have. Please accept this advice as coming from the heart. Gas is short for gasoline which is derived from petroleum
The most important invention for Illinois is actually the steel plow invented by John Deere. Without it the US may not be considered the breadbasket of the world.
Iowa should be the heart transplant. The first heart transplant was performed at the University of Iowa.
The Polio Vaccine was invented at the University of Pittsburgh in the 1950s, effectively eradicating a disease that killed and crippled millions of people all around the world for all of history.
But sure, compared to gum, it's no contest which is the better invention.
'Gas' is short for gasoline, the fuel our automobiles are powered by. 'Petro' is short for petroleum, the stuff that gasoline is made from, along with kerosene, diesel oil, etc. If you put petroleum as fuel in you automobile, it will most likely ruin the engine.
He said hearing aids were researched at the Medical College of Alabama in 1898. Not 1998.
The kind of things you get as an economic superpower. The mind is a powerful thing when backed up with the money to test ideas.
Very very true:D
Absolutely!
You’ve got it backwards. Typical
It was really weird to say Rollerblades for Minnesota when Post-its were even mentioned, Romey and Michelle worked really hard inventing them.

Vulcanizing rubber is very important to make the tire usable.
Volcanolized rubber. LoL
@@runrafarunthebestintheworld Not sure what Volcanolized is. Meaning it was thrown down a volcano?
For iowa, it should be digital electronic computer. The first Digital computer was invented at Iowa State university. Several years later someone patented one for the first time, but the first computer was made in Iowa.
Polynesians started surfing and then they discovered the Hawaii islands in 400 C.E and settled there where they brought surfing, so yes if you think about it Hawaii is apart of the start of surfing as the people who invented the sport lived there for thousands of years and preferred the island for surfing as they had unique waves to surf, that's why surfing is big in Hawaii and Australia if you look how close they are to Polynesia
7:03 - Vulcanized rubber
The process of vulcanizing, or curing, rubber with heat made it harder and much more durable. Prior to the invention of the process, tires would get soft and wear down quickly in hot weather.
actually Charles Goodyear first vulcanized rubber in Woburn Mass. He was concerned that life jackets on ships made of natural rubber were rotting and becoming useless. There were no car tires then, it was the 1830's. look at 290 Montvale ave Woburn MA on google maps and you can see the house he did it in. The Goodyear School is right to the west.
there are different types of diving suits, wetsuit is just one type along with drysuits both used for diving

Also, the first American hot air balloon flight was in Baltimore in 1748
Mrs. Beesley...in the US, one cannot get a patent for an idea. The idea must be made into a working device. My grandfather held the first patent for the mechanical toothbrush. However, in 1936 there were no micro motors or batteries, so the invention used a hand crank. Unfortunately it never caught on until later years when the patent ran out
tell that to monolith, the guys that patented the nemesis system from shadow of war.
For Missouri, it was mentioned that the Ice Cream Cone was invented at the 1904 World's Fair. There were a number of other important inventions that originated at the 1904 World's Fair. They include, the hamburger, the hot dog, peanut butter, iced tea, the club sandwich, outdoor lighting and X-Ray machines.
In St Louis. I remembered iced tea for sure.
So, only one useful invention amongst that lot.
You don’t think outdoor lighting and x-ray machines are useful? They’re not iced tea, but still.
Outdoor lighting was first used on Pall Mall, London on Jan 28th 1807. And yes it is very useful. The food stuffs are just fatty junk food, designed to induce health problems as is iced tea which is loaded with copious amounts of teeth rotting sugar. So that leaves just one item. If you read my original comment I said only one useful item, I'll leave you to judge which one I'm talking about, I hope that's not too difficult, but still.
the Hamburger has been around for a few millenia, as have sausages. however the modern Hamburger came from Hamburg and the Hotdog (Frankfurter) was from Frankfurt.
As a Connecticutian, I feel compelled to say we have the first burger, submarine, and frisbee’s

No shopping cart/buggy for Oklahoma? Much more significant than the parking meter...
Imagine the billions of dollars that Superman brings in compared to the $130 they sold it for.
However I have to say the little plastic tips on your shoestrings is probably one of the best and least thought of invention. Think about how much we would struggle without them.
Those are called "aglets."
“Happy birthday”, not the lyrics but the music was indeed written only in 1893 by Patty & Mildred Hill. It was under copyright until 2015! Though at that point the copyright was ruled invalid in court.
So Ohio basically has 3 inventions on this list. Traffic light, superman, and airplane. The airplane was 100% invented in Ohio and not North Carolina. Lol
Gatorade was the 1st sports drink of its kind. Gas is short for gasoline.
I agree w big_tex's comment for Texas. Integrated circuit has to be number one. Jack Kilby won a Nobel prize for it. Without the integrated circuit we wouldnt have computers, smart phones, etc. This was one of the main reasons electronics have advanced so much in such a short time.
I grew up in Dayton and we are bitter about North Carolina’s claims, lol. The Wright Brothers invented and did all of their testing in Dayton; I lived close to the prairie they ran small scale tests on! They needed a windy place to test their plane so they went to Kittyhawk.
If it wasn't for flight, they would have had to use Vapo-Rub as best invention from North Carolina.
I agree! I too am from Ohio and grew up a stones throw from WPAFB. They lived here it was designed and built here so the invention is from here. It might have been tested elsewhere but it was absolutely invented here just like the cash register.
Windy and remote on case it failed
Yes, there are still steamboats in the US. Especially on the Mississippi.
There are a few, however most of the "paddle wheel" boats that still cruise these rivers use diesel power to drive the wheel.
My hometown of Louisville Ky. has the oldest, still operating, steam-powered paddle wheel boat here on the Ohio River, The Belle of Louisville. She is a National Historic Landmark.
David Houston helped develop roll film and Kodak cameras. He lived in Hunter, ND and his house is still standing.
From what I remember in history, the first submarine used in warfare was the Turtle. A walnut shaped submersible invented by a student (David Bushnell) from Yale University in 1776, which attacked the British flagship Eagle, in New York harbor unsuccessfully.
As a Maine Native I agree the wetsuit and drysuit styles of diving suits were invented here. Someone from Maine also improved the big metal diving helmet.
I appreciate you guys committing to your channel. Hope you’re well!
Being from Colorado, I think that the best invention to come from Colorado is the aluminum can. Ball industries (formerly famous for their glass jars), developed the aluminum can which has a tighter design tolerance than space craft. Ball sold the glass part their business, and now they focus on aluminum aerospace as well as custom-designing aluminum cans and custom can liners for whatever a company wants to put in an aluminum can. That’s why you see more craft beers in cans instead of bottles, which is lighter and cheaper and more sustainable than bottles.
also Coors ceramics division... they did some amazing stuff; I had no idea the thing even existed until I was on a road trip a few falls ago and we passed through Golden. Of course we knew we'd see the main Coors plant, but that other one caught my eye and I looked it up later. Very impressive.
Considering that Philadelphia Pennsylvania was not only the headquarters for the first continental congress, but also the place where the declaration of independence was both written and signed into law, I would argue that the greatest invention ever to come out of Pennsylvania was actually the USA itself.
North Carolina did not invent the airplane. The Wright Brothers (from Dayton Ohio) brought their disassembled airplane to Kitty Hawk, a beach they had chosen for its winds. After two of their test flights in which they got their prototype off the ground for seconds, they returned to Prairie Huffman Ohio (which is now a National Historic Site) and developed their plane so by 1904 it could stay in the air for as long as 45 minutes and fly in circles, indicating they had control of the heavier than air aircraft. Please read David McCullough's book The Wright Brothers. It is totally unjust to say that North Caroliina invented the airplane because it had windy beaches.
He is very wrong about GA. Coka Cola started in Vicksburg MS. It started as drug store soda. The Bowie Knife was invented in Mississippi. Elvis Presley is from Mississippi.
The Wright Brother , designed and built the 1st airplane in their bike shop in Dayton Ohio ! They took it down to N C to fly. So it was invented in Ohio .
Exactly. Though I will say the descendants of the Wrights claim both states are responsible for aviation.
You know that they had to have tested it before they took it all the way to NYC to fly it. This one always irritates me because we learned in school that it was invented in Ohio. Somehow in the last 50 years, NYC is taking credit for it.
You don't credit Japan with inventing the atomic bomb
You don't credit the moon for inventing the lunar module
Then why would anyone credit North Carolina with inventing the airplane?
Had the Wright's tested in Canada would it then be a Canadian invention? No
Stop stealing our history.
NYC? I don't think anyone thinks the airplane was invented in New York City. Surely you meant N.C. (North Carolina).
@@deadman4553 he said NC not NYC lol
On behalf of Colorado, I'm offended they only mentioned the Cheeseburger, which really wasn't a huge deal or much of an invention. What about the Teddy Bear, outdoor Christmas Lights, tampons and lasers, all invented in Colorado. Not to mention Nicola Tesla's discovery of the alternating current still used around the world today, and his creation of the Tesla Coil. And the mention for Minnesota of Post-It Notes? The adhesive for Post-Its was invented in Colorado as well. And they picked the cheeseburger. *sigh*
P.S. Anyone else notice that they showed roller skates when talking about rollerblades? Two different things. They should have (and could have easily) shown the correct item.
You wouldn't believe how regulated booze is. Certain things and ingredients have to be in each type of alcohol.
As someone from New Hampshire, I feel like we are more proud of the snow mobile, snow boarding, and even paintball than the Segway. The Segway may have been invented here, but it seems like it's more popular elsewhere.
Why would someone from New Hampshire be proud of the snowmobile when it was invented in Wisconsin?
Google says, The first “snowmobile” was the Lombard log hauler, a train-like vehicle equipped with skis instead of front wheels. Invented in Waterville, Maine in 1908.
@@markgulbranson7518 you are also wrong lol, it was invented in maine.

The airplane that the Wright Brothers flew in NOrth Carolina was one that they made in Ohio. North Carolina is where they first tested it for the seclusion and the steady wind coming in from the ocean.

As for me living in Huntsville, Alabama and being fortunate enough to see a Saturn V rocket every time I drive I 565, I think putting man on the moon trumps a hearing aid. I have some awesome pics of it from when I worked right across the highway from the space& rocket center.
I don't know--depends on your perspective, I guess. I use my hearing aids every waking moment, and I rarely even think about the man on the moon.

I'm from Minnesota. The rollerblades thing was weird. We're a pretty big hub for technology and retail headquarters. The big one would be 3M. They invent so much stuff. The one everyone knows is Post-It notes, but they hold many profitable patents.

I don't know why people say North Carolina is known for the plane. It may have flew there, but it was invented in Ohio. At least that's the official birth of aviation. NC I think just likes to argue it because they have no other inventions they can claim for the state. ^_^
Gatorade...Gator Aid...Florida Gators...now it's a brand
There is an actual patent or copyright on the song Happy Birthday. Thats why restaurants often sing a variation
The cheeseburger is arguable. Kaelin's restaurant in Louisville, Kentucky claims to be the inventor and had it on their menu in 1934, a year before the other place. Supposedly, there is another place that claims they invented it in 1925 in California also. 🤷♀️
About tractor fuel: While most large tractor engines run on Diesel Fuel and some small engines use gasoline (petrol) there were some tractor engines that ran on liquid propane also referred to as LP gas.
The earliest origins of surfing date back about 3,000 years, when fisherman in western Polynesia rode waves with canoes to quickly surf their catches back to shore.

With Levi’s many people modify it but most don’t last as long. They are still real popular with workers, for whom they were invented, because they are tough, durable, and comfortable. A diving suit/wet suit (we call it both) is technically just the insulative part from your ankles/wrists to the part covering the top of your neck. However, there's also what we call a more specific diving suit that fully covers your body. It's sometimes called a diving bell, but it now much simpler than the original ones (unless you plan to dive super deep). The diving apparatus can use liquid rather than air to supply necessary oxygen under pressure (probably not unlike amniotic fluid).
