Those two kids have been bowling 2 handed for a while! 😂 good vid thank you! I could not hook a ball one handed so I switched to two, one year later and my game has improved a ton!
I'm 66 years old and recently switched to 2 handed (Last Fall). It didn't take too long to feel comfortable and its much easier on my body. I'm averaging about 180 and still haven't mastered my corner spares. Costing me 10 -20 pins a game. Tips on spares?
One thing about being two handed is that there are many different variations of doing it and they’re all correct. If you watch the pros, it doesn’t take long to notice that all two handers have their own style. You got straight arms(Ogle) st top of the swing vs bent(Belmo), skip(Belmo)/hop(Packy)/step(Troup) during 4th step, thumb in/out, open(Keven Williams)/closed(Troup) hips, standing tall(Troup)/low(Simo). I always tell anyone giving it a try to keep an open mind and experiment will all the variations. It’s surprising what works for some people!
I’ve been making progress with ball speed by keeping the wrist and elbow on the inside of center of the ball during my setup. Also starting with open hips has helped. Before those changes I was kind of stuck in the land of “too slow ball speed, too many revs” and really limited to one kind of ball and one kind of shot. For better accuracy on spares, I concentrate on leaning the upper body forward more than usual at the release and have more body weight on the slide foot. Those are a few simple things that helped but never mentioned by coaches for me. I must have had some bigger problems to work on first from their perspective. Thanks
Great video. I watched and implemented the 4 steps in practice, and it really got me back on track. I was doing waaaay too much, and this really helped to get me focused on the basics again. Thank you.
I would like to have seen how you teach the release at the hands, what you should be feeling in a proper release to not be too far on the side or straight up the back
I went 2handed this year after dabbling with it over the last decade and not only does it feel WAY better, it also allows me to be WAY more athletic and allows me to be super fast with my feet, which has ALWAYS been an issue with me.
47yrs old here and converted to 2-handed about 5yrs ago due to constant wrist and hip soreness (especially after tournament weekends). Since then, I have not had much trouble with any part of my body....and my practice sessions range from 14-24 games a day about twice a week plus 3 leagues. I could never do that before. Now, yea..revs and all that etc...I will say this..I felt I was a lot more accurate one-handed because I was higher up and saw more of my line that I drew in my head during setup. 2-handed you are a lot lower and I tend to focus on that first target more.
Thank you for the video. I'm coming back to bowling after a long break and forgot a lot of my fundamentals. I used to be a traditional 1 hander, for some reason now i cant seem to use my thumb. I switched to two fingers and it feels much more natural, i think i will practice a two handed approach and see how it feels now.
Great question and thank you for watching our videos. Footwork is very specific to the individual bowler. Footwork length and direction can be very different with two-handers. Pivot steps (“hop”) are also very unique to players. Some pivot steps are short in length, some longer, some with more angle, some with less. We have a video coming out in the future on just footwork with two-handers due to its uniqueness to the player.
Would balance at the foul line be a factor in the release? Also does this help if you are having wrist issues being able to stay behind the bowlingball?
Due to an arm injury I suffered a decade ago, I can no longer bowl one handed. So, I thought about going the two handed route. Tried it out a few days ago, but there wasn't much I could do with a house ball. 🙂 But, after 3 games, my arm felt fine so I think I am going to convert. Is it recommended to use a ball drilled with only the finger holes?
I switched from 1 handed to 2 handed around Xmas time in 2023….have it down but had to redrill my bowling balls because of the axis rotation difference and the PAP change…..once drilled correctly for me had a much better improvement in my ball consistency….something that I have seen in most videos on RUclips that hasn’t been mentioned…..just food for thought
I say yes...I started last February 2023 because I wasn't doing well one-handed. I'm 59 and my son had me try two-handed and it felt normal to me. My current average is 189 and I'm slowly getting better. I can't say if it's easier for someone with back issues. All I can say is to give it a try and see how it feels for you.
There are pros and cons for both one-handed and two-handed style so if one feels to switch to see what works better, more power to them rather I agree to disagree with the style. The way I see it, it is your money and your career.
Some people when they do two handed they keep both hands on the ball all the way during the release the left hand is off the ball just like a one handed bowler
if i went to two handed bowling i would rip the cover off the ball.....also my friends would buy me a dress.... i have a ton of friends that are two handers. i just have enough issues with my rev rate and speed single handed. maybe i will try to convert over the summer, i want to see what its all about.
Nice video, BUT one item of note, the hop step to deliver the ball onto the lane was really not discussed, this is a major difference from one handed to two handed when I switched, never took a hop step with one hand, would of been laughed out of my league if I did.
Those kids are very experienced 2 handers.... also it's no real reason to do the hop/skip step footwork to be an effective 2 handed bowler...its just been hyper popularised by Belmo, Simo, and Jesper
Watch Walter Ray, when he uses 2-hands. You can tell he's worked on it. Not sure how much he uses it, but it shows that it was worth adding to his already packed toolbox of bowling knowledge. Even at 60+ years old, it's effective.
Why not make all artists paint the same picture using the same colors & brushes? How many variations of bowling one handed are there…lots. Basketball used to be shooting primarily 2 handed but now it’s one handed? Did it ruin the game? Did tennis players ruin the “art” of tennis by using two hands on the racquet? Good grief.
Not only that, watch 2 handed bowlers miss picking up 75% of their spares. I'll watch them throw 6 strikes in a row 2 handed and miss every spare that comes their way.
This is why woman should probably just not talk sports. Bowling is the game. It literally does not matter how you throw the ball. So kids who use the Dino aren’t bowling then?
I guess you hate technology and are still using rubber balls on only wooden lanes, right? Bc if it's older or dated that must be the way the game was "intended"??? You 2 hander hater trolls are hilarious....so full of envy and jealousy.
Yeah...sooo jealous At least string pins will eliminate the messengers and perhaps bring back the importance of accuracy Or it'll kill bowling altogether and then there is really no point in arguing @@mattvongruben
Stop advocating this. Bowling is a skill. It requires technique. This is just taking a fun and technical sport and making it so that everybody can feel special.
@robertritter8444 at high levels it's incredibly technical. It requires a deep understanding of both the physics of the game as well as the chemistry relationship between different ball materials, lane types, and oil patterns. On the surface, yes you throw the ball at the pins, but to consistently do it well requires A LOT of knowledge on top of the physical performance.

I’m finally making the switch from one handed to two handed after having the same issue as you for 4 years of my bowling. Wish me luck!!
This is unreal. I'm looking to pick bowling up again and here you guys are teaching where I used to bowl in league and for fun as a kid. I love it!
Thanks Mike. Wondering if there’s any secret in the hop step as well
No secret it's just a quick shuffle of feet, you may or may not 'hop'

7 shouldnt be a problem but 10 can be shot at one handed.
Toss your spares one handed with a spare ball.
You can also learn back-up or work on the feel of staying up the back of the ball since you can’t flatten your hand out.

Would you recommend this for a Senior bowler?
I have had senior bowlers make the switch. It's very athletic and can be difficult to switch.

Question: Both players has a really long first right step. (second step in a 5 step approach)
Is this a key for a shorter fourth step? (powerstep)
Thanks Mike!!! Im going to try this tmr !!!!
Do you use the lead hand to apply spin or it to help cradle a deeper swing?
does the cradle hand change ball action if the fingers dont line up with the ball hand
Not gonna address the footwork? I think that’s the most difficult part to learn.

if you want to go league eventually then yes.
Great video. How about a tutorial on no thumb one hand style? Would love some tips on that form 😊. Mike Miller or Tom Daugherty style 🙏
Wonder if you can find a two hander, and get them to convert to one hander. I want to bowl one handed

what about the hop?
Just a quick shuffle of the feet, you may or may not hop.
Can a senior league blower learn 2 handed bowling?
Will 2 handed bowling be easier for someone with back issues? The

What is really important is the skip step and where the opposite hand positioned. Everything else is pretty simple.
I recently injured my thumb and it's a nice change to play 2 handed until my thumb is fully healed. Who knows, I might convert completely in the end 🙃
I'm getting ready to try and make the switch to 2 hands and I'm 55, well see, this should help
Can season bowlers bowl two handed? 50 and over
I'd seen a pro bowler did and he was the only one on tour in PBA50 when spectating.
Great stuff! Giving away a lot of onowledge hopefully people will appreciate the work.

Ive been a 1 hander and will always be that way, no need or want to convert!
So what is the point of you being on this video
And yet, EJ Tackett has as many revs - maybe more - than most of the two handers.
EJ is probably the exception to the rule. Not many 1 handers can make revs like that.
@@CKBowling1BJ Moore comes to mind and Mitch Hupe (spelling) also.
I was hoping Joey Pants was one of the guinea pigs. 😁

I'm surprised that we haven't seen any 2 handed women bowlers on the women's tour yet. Maybe there is, but I havent seen any.
Look at the youth & Jr Team USA girls, it won’t be long.
There are some at the college and youth level. Nora Johansson from Sweden is one also
Lookup one of his students Taylor kretz.... give it a few years once shes out of highschool lol

He has a channel and he generally uses it in leagues and uses two-handed less on tour.
one handed can compete they both knock pins down
It not two handed bowling it really a two handed arm swing with a one handed release
This is not a video on how to convert to a two-hander those kids have been two handers their whole life
lol plz. these guys have been 2 handed for a while
Clearly, both of these youngsters are actually two handers who have never bowled 1 handed. They looked completely lost bowling 1 handed.
So easy a cave man could do it.
Honestly...a horrible, less graceful looking delivery, but there's no denying it is effective.
IMO, Jesper is the best at it and I can watch him bowl all day long and he is very athletic and never falls off on his shot making.
Why are you promoting changing the art of bowling ! Why not hit a golf ball with a bat…STOP!!!!
Good grief.
No…… two handed is not bowling it’s chucking….stop it!!!!
Not only that, watch 2 handed bowlers miss picking up 75% of their spares. I'll watch them throw 6 strikes in a row 2 handed and miss every spare that comes their way.
If you look it’s still a one handed release when the ball leaves. 2nd hand becomes the balance arm
This is why woman should probably just not talk sports. Bowling is the game. It literally does not matter how you throw the ball. So kids who use the Dino aren’t bowling then?
I’d rather not bowl then go 2 handed.
Cool story bro 👍🏼
