The best version I've ever found.
Jim Erb of the University of Richmond wrote this arrangement. He was as wonderful and beautiful as his arrangement. It fills my heart to think of him.`
One of THE most delightful versions of this lovely old song i've heard yet !! ♥♥♥♥♥
What a beautiful song. That wasn't the first time I'd heard it, but Ernestina Jošt gave the best performance of it I've yet heard.
This song always makes me cry
A haunting song. It tells of longing and loneliness for a cherished home. And it speaks through the centuries.
Sublime. Thank you!
She sure hits those high notes beautifully and perfectly.
WHAT A BEAUTIFUL SONG!
It is what is good in the USA. It is along the lines of a hymn. Brilliantly done....
Beauty and talent too. Right from God’s hands.
One of my favorite songs. I will never see home again mn😢
Surely, the World stood in Peace this day 💖
That oboe player killed and her voice is simply angelic

lovely in so many ways, and she's singing one of the best of the U.S. folk songs!
I will follow YOU like the River. I love you James williams
The beauty of the entire orchestra and choir is mind-blowing. From voices to faces to smiles, it is good to see something about humanity that is beautiful for a change. Congratulations to all.

Ein wunderschönes Gesamtkunstwerk, das tolle Orchester und die grandiose Ernestina😍🤩👏👏👏🎼🎻

My mother used to sing this song to me when I was a child. This is a really beautiful arrangement and performance.
Brava l'orchestra, bravo il coro ma Ernestina è un vero miracolo della natura, una voce angelica, veramente meravigliosa.

Thank you very much for such a great performance
This makes me cry every time... what a powerful piece of art... it only shows how far we've come as a species...
It means perfect star ⭐ Christ
Que; ??; How Far ?? We just kill with more precision & faster. 100s of Billions of Dollars daily subjugate people globally.
This just HAS to be the most beautiful performance of this old traditional American ballad that I have ever heard... and it is Sooo beautiful to watch as well, everyone from the lovely Ernestina to the young ladies in the chorus to the wonderful musicians in the orchestra.
I learned this lovely old song when I was a kid in the 1950s, when a chorus of which I was a member performed it at recitals at our church on several occasions. My mother, the choir director, (also the pianist, and organist) insisted that we all know the story of the lyrics, of the fur trader traveling on the Missouri River and the Native American chief's daughter with whom he was in love , and her father, Shenandoah. And my mother insisted that we memorize the lyrics, as with every piece we performed. No pages rattling or dropping to the floor... and eye contact with our audience... our parents and the congregation. And I still remember every word of the lyrics to this day. It is also where I first learned Mr. Dvořák's "Když mne stará matka" ("Songs My Mother Taught Me", in the English language version which we sang), which Ernestina and members of this orchestra and chorus have also performed and recorded beautifully in a rare music video titled "Last Journey Home".
So this is a very emotional and wonderful experience for me every time I play this beautiful performance by Ernestina and this superb orchestra and chorus. 💖💖😊
Just to be clear, this is a ballad version of a traditional shanty song.

It has been around since the 1790s or Very early 1800s. The origin of it and the writer or writers are unknown.
Wonderful saprano
Utterly astonishing😢
Truly, this is Heaven... This is what Heaven sounds like... XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXO LOVE IT. Thank you so much.
Haven't heard this song since I was a kid. I used to sing while in school with others..so many memories..
So beautiful I can hardly stand it. Brilliant. Soul wrenching.
VERY VERY BEAUTIFUL!!!!
this is the best I've never heard before
Stunning!
Beautiful. So very impressive!
Such a beautiful performance, I have played it over 10 times and can shed no more tears.
Shout out to the oboe and harp soloists who likely took a bow after the clip was cut. Their melody places this song squarely in that period of american history.
Very beautiful vocals and arrangement. !
Thank you, thank you, so moving!
Not sure why I’m going back listening to my middle school choral arrangement
You all nailed it. Great!
What a amazing orchestra and singer !
Sehr, schön
Wow, amazing 😀 what a beautiful voice. Your all amazingly talented. God bless.

Really beautiful. Thanks!
I got asmr from that! Absolutely beautiful! My choir is singing this at our concert, and the baritones have the melody! I just happen to be the only baritone who wants to sing properly! It will be like a solo!
Bravo ❗👏 Bravo ❗👏Bravo ❗👏👌❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Quelle merveilleuse chanteuse...Un grand moment de plaisir...bravo
Bravo bravo!! Varias veces la escucho y emociona el alma de ver y oír tanta belleza musical plena de juventud!! Gracias por tanta dulzura y con amor espiritual los abrazo a todos!!👏👏👏👏
This is fairly.... Spectacular !! Well done !
Beautiful! The wide Missouri flows only 5 km from where I live.
You are lucky. Where exactly do you live ?
And the Shenandoah is at the bottom of my mountain.
I live near Hannibal. Crossed the wide Missouri countless times :)
Not what I thought it was going to be when I came here, but a very beautiful version - with the required emotional effect :-) Loved it!
As an ex vocalist who got the boot as soon as my soprano broke i loved this and i have never seen so many beautiful girls in one place ?
Very beautifull song..❤️❤️❤️
It’s amazing how well Slovenian Ernestina Jost can interpret this purely American song. The only person to sing this song better is American Jo Stafford, arguably the greatest female popular genre singer ever. You’re in great company Ernestina
She sounds just like an angel 😇 💕🥺
She is a Star!!
,너무 아름다워요!쌩큐!
Absolutely beautiful
Charming to hear this song with her accent!
Thank you so much...tears here from the beauty of the song and their angelic voices ❤️
Sooooo schön
Merveilleux...bravo...
Stunning amazing. So young, so beautiful!
Une voix très juste et cristalline Très belle interprétation
Wat een genot om te horen en te zien. Geweldig.
Great camera work, as well.
Wonderful performance! Monsieur Zevnik’s goal, in his words, was to create an "amazing musical journey into heart of American soul, which I experienced during my cycling trip from Boston to Seattle.” He is succeeding. The origins of Oh Shenandoah Across the Wide Missouri are obscure but stem from the early part of the nineteenth century. The music meant different things to different groups. But to my ancestors who escaped the wars and famine of Europe it represented the journey to a new life free from all those horrors. And it is just a beautiful song sung by a beautiful lady. Bravo Mr. Zevnik, can’t wait to see what comes next!
Beautiful
Jefferson City tornado just happened. Jefferson City is Missouri's capital city, located directly on the banks of the Missouri river. Its difficult to hear this song right now, considering the damage done to so many lives and properties.
Maravilhoso.
Da hört man, es gibt Engel...
theres hope for us all yet
너무 아름답다.
WOW!
Very difficult song to understand eventhough it sounds beautiful regardless who sings it. Is it about a river or about an Indian Chief rejecting his daughter's lover? Either way, it is an American masterpiece. 👍👍
Oh Shenandoah, I hear you calling,
Hi-o, you rolling river.
Oh Shenandoah, I long to hear you,
Hi-o, I'm bound away.
'Cross the wide, Mis-sou-ri.
Mis-sou-ri, She's a mighty river,
Hi-o, you rolling river.
When she rolls down, her topsails shiver,
Hi-o, I'm bound away,
'Cross the wide, Mis-sou-ri
.Farewell my dearest, I'm bound to leave you,
Hi-o, you rolling river.
Oh Shenandoah, I'll not deceive you,
Hi-o, I'm bound away.
'Cross the wide Mis-sou-ri.
END
@tog hoath thanks for your reply, all of that, i very love this song.
