NTSB Holiday Message - Remembering Those We Lost

This #holiday season, we honor and remember those individuals lost to traffic crashes. We must make every trip a safe one. The life you save might be your own, and one life lost is one too many. Watch the new #NTSB video.

This is the 24th Christmas we’ll have an empty chair at the table. 18 years old when he was killed, my big cousin was the eldest of the cousins. Now even the baby cousins are older than him. The loss from road trauma doesn’t go away.
24 years on, and there’s still an empty seat. A glass raised to him.
I send my love to all of the families, friends, colleagues who have faced that same loss this year, and I hold you each in my heart.

Major changes are needed and have been needed for over 100 years. For example, vehicles that can travel at NASCAR speeds should not be allowed. Motorcycles not allowed. Fines for speeding increased by 1000%. Semi trucks pulled over and cited. Patrol officers and cars increased by 1000%.
There is no death more empty. There are so many crosses on the side of the road its like one continuous cemetery.
