His Spanish is pretty broken, but it’s understandable, my guess is he chose to learn the Spanish spoken in the Caribbean because is a lot easier to master due to its “ghetto-like” nature, plus you don’t have to be thinking about the rules, stuff like the subjunctive, just one of foreigner’s nightmare. That won’t be of a lot of help if you come across latinos of different backgrounds, if him and I were to have a face-to-face conversation he’d get dazed and confused in a heartbeat. The Spanish I speak is a mixture of slangs, idioms, hyperboles, etc., te puedo perder en un 2x3 y no sabrás ni a que horas te mando a la luna.
