Watching from London uk Iv been to the Philippines 14 times over the last 10 years most of the time always to davao the Philippines is a fantastic country with the best people in the world everybody is so friendly there. Anyway I Eventually got married to a Filipina and I’m living with her in the uk now we have a 6 year old daughter . But the uk it’s not the way it used to be The government is making life so hard for people now. And I’m thinking of Leaving the UK to live permanently in the Philippines
I am a Filipina and lived here in Uk for almost 40 years, been married to a kind and honest man who I met when both of us are working abroad, came here in UK and worked as RN in NHS, it was a shocked to my system first, since hospitals then are very old and the culture is very rigid, I am lying if I will say it was easy to adjust, however, it took a lot of courage. System then are very different, you are right, UK is going down the drains, I am thinking of going back to live in the Philippines, I am a widow now and my son has his own life to live, good luck with your life in PI and live happily, by the way you can still apply for basic pension and though you live in PI, DWP will send it to your bank account there, God Bless

I’am 72 been living in Thailand for 5 years now. Back in the 1980’s lived in Colombia for 5 years also. So I’ve experienced live in a different country long term, I did some English teaching while I was in Colombia also. I was married to a Colombian and had 3 children. I am still fit and active, playing sports like badminton, Pickleball etc. It’s a good lifestyle I’am having here too. I have been to the Philippines a number of times, plus over 50 countries worldwide. What I’am trying to say is being 72 yes you slowdown but life is still fun 😊

Hello, kind friend! I just happened across your channel and this video. You’ve been gifted with wisdom and wisdom had nothing to do with intellect. However, you possess both of these. I am so glad I found you here. Myself, I am from the United States and have quite simply had enough, if you will. All the particulars as to why are unimportant and I am sure self evident if one views the media at all. I’ve been examining many countries and have narrowed my selection down to one of 4 countries with the Philippines being my first choice of the four. I’ve still much to learn about the whole process of obtaining a visa and such. Learning, as I say. Let me state as well that your views on life and truly living are spot on. I do not know you personally…but in a sense, I feel as though I do. You made mention in this episode here about teaching English online and the ease of doing so for those willing to put in some effort. A question for you, if I may? How does a person find information on this? I would like very much to explore this idea and begin this journey. Thank you for your kind attention. Thank you for your channel and the time, the effort in putting forth a message that offers both information and hope to those viewing it. Blessings to you and yours…. William
@@williamjames3813 Hello William. Firstly let me thank you for your kind words. To be honest I came here blind with no knowledge of the Philippines. I took a huge risk and it could have easily gone the other way. But through perseverance and by being strong headed I finally made it work. Teaching is always a good option for extra money here. There are many platforms that allow. I think to take a chance is in a way living. To not take risks can we ever better ourselves? I don't know. Made a decision and follow it through right or wrong. Being healthy and having your family with you, makes you a rich man. Another thing, you got out of the rat race that we live in Europe, that destroys ourselves. I’m 48 and my plan is to retire in 4 to 6 years from now. Take care
Hi Steve, like one of your subscribers mentioned, I would not have guessed that you taught ESL. That is the route I'm taking. I'm moving to Vietnam to teach in March '25. I plan to teach abroad until 60, when my pension kicks in, then move to the PI. It's not huge, but it is good enough. I'll transition to online teaching with my pension about 10-12 hours a week and put it into savings until 62 when social security starts, then I'm finished with working. I'll probably do some community volunteering to give back to the wonderful people of the Philippines. Take care!.
Thats a great idea. Yes many people wouldn't think i am a teacher. hahaha. Yes thats the great thing about speaking English, We can teach it until we decide weve had enough. Take care my friend.
I was in Bin Hoa or something like that, a small city outside of Saigon, there were lots of middle age Brits teaching English there. Matter of fact the recruiter was also brit, can't remember the comparison but one of the biggest in VN. Didn't like teaching though. Was as good as FT work if you do 20 hours plus. Plus hard to get leave until tet days in Feb. And most teachers were drinking and getting entangled with women. One was jn a court case with a lady she bought a house with 😂
On the one hand you don’t want to wait till it is too late. On the other hand you don’t want to ruin your chances at a decent retirement in your home country in pursuit of your dream retirement in the Philippines. Making the move too early can also be a bad decision. I put up with going into that stressful job up until last year when I turned 59. Now I am a househusband waiting on my wife to quit her job so that we can live part time here and part time in the Philippines. We have grown sons here so part time in both places is the way for us to go. Planning on making that move next year. No fancy cars for us and no big fancy home and no swimming pool and no boat to carry to the nearby lake on weekends. Just a decent townhouse and a decent car will do.
I appreciate your videos. It's good to see a successful happy Brit abroad. The question I have is when you yourself get older will you stay there? What about health supports and the general safety aspects of the country you're in. For example i notice you're always aware of falling coconuts, what happens when you're 70 can you still keep that awareness and walk on unmade roads? I guess I sound negative but you are doing what I want to do very soon, I'm just thinking would I want to be 70 in that country without good medical services nearby. I mean regular health checks are available but in an emergency for example a coconut injury would need knowledgeable care nearby. Keep making the videos you're a positive force, Best regards
Hello John and thank you for your message. Good question. I think if you have the money here the medical care is great and the medical check ups are as good as i've had in the UK. But for falling coconuts im not sure hahaha. I think when im older i will walk another way.

It’s quite an interesting perspective. It’s like there’s a parallel between senior foreigners and locals here. Foreigners seek out places like ours, or areas like Panama or Vietnam, for a more laid-back life. On the other hand, people here in my country (PH) are eager to work abroad for better opportunities, hoping for an overall better quality of life - better pay, better mental well-being, etc. Everyone here is exhausted by the daily traffic, long lines at the grocery store, bureaucratic services, and whatnot. It’s always been a strange phenomenon for me: how foreigners from highly developed countries are willing to give up the top-tier services they had in exchange for a slower, more laid-back environment. I guess I might not fully understand it now, but maybe I will when I’m older.
I think its the way of life here is so much different including the climate. It is most Englishman's dreams to retire in the sun. It can be hard here sometimes for me even till now but i much prefer it here. Its a very interesting aspect of things that you wrote.
You have to follow livable dreams...not a fantasy. Prepare and make do. No one gets out of here alive and if you have no fulfilled dreams were you ever alive?
How is your Filipino now? I am here married with a 15yo stepdaughter, I help her with math, science, and English. I can teach, and I am very positive, but I only want to teach those who want to learn. Hello, Teacher. What ESL online do you teach for? I was also an ESL teacher work-from-home for many years and loved being able to work from home except that I cannot suffer any power outages or poor internet connection. I have to have a wired or fiber internet to be acceptable. I was also recommending the ESL job to any of those I know. I am very glad to know you are living decently in my country, the Philippines! 😊😊😊
@@beauty8diamonds Hello and thank you for your message. I teach IELTS mainly. I bought a small generator for the brownouts and recently had PLDT fibre installed. Are you teaching these days?
@@Philippinedreamingnot anymore because of environmental factors (I wished I had a quieter neighborhood), there was no noise background cancellation app before. Somehow the awful pandemic experience led the world to create an app which is perfect for online teaching (it blocks noises even Videoke singing or dog barking) but it should only be installed at desktops or laptops. I wish this app could've been launched much earlier before I resigned from teaching. 😂 Now I am building an e-commerce for arts and fine jewelry that ships worldwide so I will have more time for my disabled German husband, not have to be on video for students. (This is also my RUclips business page.) I would highly-recommend work-from-home jobs which is why I started an e-commerce (plan to give as many work-from-home jobs as I can to as many people worldwide eventually). I am going to get satellite Starlink of Elon Musk and also a fibre internet soon (because I am moving to Batangas from Metro Manila). I am preparing against power outages. I will share some tips in the Philippines for some nice-to-know information, Teacher. 👇👇👇
Let me help you all by adding this nice-to-know tip: 1. I am a Filipino coming from the best schools in the Philippines and my husband is a severely-disabled German. He doesn't have any health insurance here like Pacific Cross but I got him his Philhealth he pays Php8,500 every 6 months. It helps in reducing the cost of his cancer surgeries plus a lot more. 2. I helped him get access to the top notch doctors in the Philippines at Philippine General Hospital in Manila, where he had the best colorectal surgeon in the Philippines. PGH maybe a charity hospital but it is at par with technology like that of St. Luke's Medical Center. He paid around Php400,000 for a resection colorectal surgery staying at a private room for more than 2 weeks. This already includes the doctor's fee and medicines. He had a 7-hour operation. 3. I had him get prepaid Maxicare health cards. They were soooo useful. He had used his prepaid Maxicare health cards and got covered for emergency and inpatient services. The prepaid cards are as low as P5,999 for up to P50,000 coverage almost any hospital in the Philippines accepts. 4. My husband has been getting these free medicines from Germany. He has to travel back and forth to Germany just to get this prescription medicine worth $4,000 a bottle good for one month that comes free if he gets it in Germany. He is severely-disabled and flying back to Germany not only is painful to him, but too costly. PGH got him enrolled into SAGIP Unit and he doesn't need to fly back to Germany anymore. PGH provided him this $4,000 per bottle of medicine absolutely for free. It is equally as good as the one from Germany, he says. America provides this medicine also but gives the cheapest and poor-quality version than what the Philippines gives. He was enrolled by PGH in SAGIP for free because he has Philhealth. Viral load tests and other tests related to this infectious disease comes also free for my husband. 5. Please check out Maxicare prepaid health cards. My husband also got this Prima Gold Maxicare which gives unlimited consultations and unlimited laboratories (including almost all sorts of CT Scans) at their Care Centers (even has a 24-hour Care Center) for only Php16,000 good for one year even if my husband has pre-existing conditions. It even gives you some accident insurance with it. It also has some free dental services with it. I highly -recommend getting these Maxicare prepaid health cards. 6. You can also try to get PhilCare prepaid or Insular Life prepaid health cards for some outpatient or emergency needs as a back-up and almost all hospitals in the Philippines accept this. Please check out their inclusions. They would only cost less than $100 for a one-year emergency coverage at almost any hospitals. 7. I have seen a comment here about chemotherapies for cancer and I wonder why he never found a good doctor because we have so much chemotherapies in the Philippines! I suggest you go to PGH in Healthway to get REAL doctors who can refer you to chemotherapies here. 8. It is nice-to-know information that we also have 911 like in the US you can call anywhere in the Philippines. It is not as advanced as the 911 in the US but you can call it for any help you need and they will refer you to the nearest police/Barangay you need. Just dial this number right from your mobile phone or landline and will get English-speaking representatives. This is an absolutely FREE service. 9. You can request for a FREE ambulance ride to the hospital at your local Barangay. Check which Barangay you are living in and make sure you obtain their direct contact numbers for convenience. 10. Check with your local Barangay for any free medical services and immunizations because they DO GIVE those for free. Don't be shy. Tell them a Filipino advised you that. 😊👍 I hope this helps a lot and welcome to the Philippines! Love, love, love the Philippines! 😍😍😍 ***Extra nice-to-know information: Do you know that there is a digital bank called Maya in the Philippines that lets you earn from 3.5%-6% on your savings and time deposit than putting it in traditional banks? This is what my husband use and it is probably the most convenient way to do banking in the Philippines with no hassles! 😊👍 Another extra nice-to-knows: If you ever have any problems dealing with the government in the Philippines (whether it'd be from the local Barangay to the police to the city hall, etc), you can dial 8888 directly from any mobile phone using a local sim card to reach the Presidential Office hotline and can either anonymously or non-anonymously file a complaint to any government official. In my experience, I have called it a number of times and I do get results efficiently. They do investigations. This is absolutely FREE. 😊👍 Extra nice-to-know: If as a foreigner you have any problems dealing with any Filipinos (love scams, etc), you can also ask FREE assistance from this popular TV show called Raffy Tulfo. This is a public service and the only one of its kind in the world helping victims get justice. Search Raffy Tulfo (They are aired at TV Channel 5). If you are down with luck because you got scammed or aggravated by a Filipino and needs justice, try asking for their help. Assistance is FREE. 😊👍

This was the main reason i decided to get out of the UK. Its not the same anymore there. I used to love the UK, Now not so much.
Davao City is great! I been there four times! I’m planning to retire there!
You are correct about having less enthusiasm for activities as you get older.

Take care!.

That's great Michael , Best of both worlds. We dont need fancy things to make us happy , Just enough is good enough for us.
I’m 44 and I’m planning to retire in 7-10 years and to live in the Philippines! ❤️🇵🇭

Hello, Teacher. What ESL online do you teach for? I was also an ESL teacher work-from-home for many years and loved being able to work from home except that I cannot suffer any power outages or poor internet connection. I have to have a wired or fiber internet to be acceptable.

I wish this app could've been launched much earlier before I resigned from teaching. 😂

I am going to get satellite Starlink of Elon Musk and also a fibre internet soon (because I am moving to Batangas from Metro Manila). I am preparing against power outages.
I will share some tips in the Philippines for some nice-to-know information, Teacher. 👇👇👇
Let me help you all by adding this nice-to-know tip:
I hope this helps a lot and welcome to the Philippines!
Love, love, love the Philippines! 😍😍😍
***Extra nice-to-know information: Do you know that there is a digital bank called Maya in the Philippines that lets you earn from 3.5%-6% on your savings and time deposit than putting it in traditional banks? This is what my husband use and it is probably the most convenient way to do banking in the Philippines with no hassles! 😊👍
Another extra nice-to-knows: If you ever have any problems dealing with the government in the Philippines (whether it'd be from the local Barangay to the police to the city hall, etc), you can dial 8888 directly from any mobile phone using a local sim card to reach the Presidential Office hotline and can either anonymously or non-anonymously file a complaint to any government official. In my experience, I have called it a number of times and I do get results efficiently. They do investigations. This is absolutely FREE. 😊👍
Extra nice-to-know: If as a foreigner you have any problems dealing with any Filipinos (love scams, etc), you can also ask FREE assistance from this popular TV show called Raffy Tulfo. This is a public service and the only one of its kind in the world helping victims get justice. Search Raffy Tulfo (They are aired at TV Channel 5). If you are down with luck because you got scammed or aggravated by a Filipino and needs justice, try asking for their help. Assistance is FREE. 😊👍

Hello Steve, I watch your vlog last night. I'm from Dipolog.
Ahh your in Dipolog, Not far from me here in Pinan.
I am currently residing in California, hoping to retire there next year. I owned a land in Maralag, Polanco.
@@patrickbueno2522 Hello Patrick, Polanco in Zamboanga del norte is that?
during 60's and 70's, Columban missionaries were assigned that area of Mindanao. w/British accent like you.
@@patrickbueno2522 Hello Patrick, I did not know that. Nice bit of history
Thank you !
My only concern is safety. I hear about so many scams, seems like everyone is out to rip you off.
That's the only thing holding me back.
Hello Christian. To be honest i've never been scammed here. But yes it goes on i'm sure. Here is very safe where i am.
@@Philippinedreaming Thank you ! Are you safer in the cities or in the Provinces ?
Scamming happens everywhere. Everybody is out to rip you off? Is does happen everywhere too. Believe me, Filipino hospitality is quite the experience.

@@jenalinong yes good home grown food is the best
Be wary of scammers, lack of hygiene, absolutely crap food, over priced everything.
As a westerner there you are preyed upon.
The only crap food i know are foods coming out of a factory.
Agree, the food quality in PH is shithouse, along with noisy bikes. It good for 3 months then you need a trip to Singapore or Thailand to get some decent food.
Out of all the places in the Philippines how did you end up in Dipolog.
Came for a little look around from Cebu, Got to meet the anglers here and fell in love with the place.
I want to become a channel member, and what are the benifits that I get if I become a member on by me a coffee? (This is Henry's 2nd channel)
Hello Henry. You will get the videos as soon as they are made. Maybe 3 days before i upload to the public.

Do you believe living in the Phlippines your better off mentally and physically, health wise than if you would have spent that time back in England? Do you think you are happier there in the Phiippines? Can you do a vlog talking specifically about this topic, about how you feel healthwise, mentally etc..are you better off and why etc..any regrets is so, if not?

How to becone an english teacher online? Can you plwase share
@@rubycebreros2330 Hello Ruby. If you can speak English to a certain level you can work teaching. Most students only want conversation.
Hello 👋
Hello
I'm 38 in the UK and I'm seriously considering just moving or at least travelling around Asia. The UK is becoming an expensive shithole. Luckily I have a job that I can do online so I can do it anywhere as long as there's Internet. No kids or wife so there's nothing keeping me in the UK. I just need to bite the bullet and get gone and see the world. I'd love to eventually own a bit of land and build a house but it's very difficult for foreigners in countries like the Philippines and Thailand etc.
Alright reggie I'm in Philippines now for last 18 months from uk .they let you teach English online here or work for call centre ther is few opportunities to work here but it can be done. I left the uk cos I was completely disillusioned and depressed start saving for a year then make that leap
@@chrishughes887 fortunately I'm good for both work and money so I don't need additional income. I just need to take the plunge. Hopefully I will be there next year.
