48 Hours in Amazon on Slow Boat from Iquitos Peru to Leticia Colombia

One of the best local experiences you can get in Peru/Colombia. We spent 2 nights and 1 day on a local slow boat from Iquitos to Leticia. We left Iquitos, Peru, late at night on a cargo boat on the amazon river, and it was absolutely fantastic.
What do you need to know before you decide on this trip on a slow boat from Peru to Colombia:
- you have to fly to Iquitos because there is no road to access this city - boats leave every day from Monday to Saturday at 6pm, sometimes 8pm - on Sunday!
- you need to buy your own hammock - the price can vary by seller. We spend 10$ per person on a hammock
- ticket for a slow boat is 26$ (80 Soles)
- you can also sleep in a cabin for 33$ (100 Soles) - we saw the place it is tiny, no window, but you can lock your stuff inside during the day and enjoy it on the deck
- you can buy a boat ticket on the departure day
- the boat is leaving from Puerto Mazusa
- you will arrive in Leticia around 6am, and you need to go to Peru immigration (which opens at 7am) to stamp out from the country and then take a boat to Colombian immigration to get a stamp of Colombia.

Ah this is what I like. Travel like locals, cheap and slow. I would love this journey. Apart from the body odour of 50 bodies for 3 days no shower. Hope there's a decent cross breeze through those open sides. Looking forward to part 2. Love, D.

Hahaha actually all locals took shower except us!! Yeah it's open so always windy.

Actually it’s windy when the boats moving but when it stops the heat hits you hard. But most local take shower but the water is from the river and we didn’t feel like taking it. It was very interesting to be there. Would do it again if I have a chance 😊

The boat looks really interesting! I can't wait for part 2, to see if you were able to sleep. Hammocks are fun, but I don't know if I could sleep while I was swinging back and forth.
