Vivienne is such a good character. I love the types that seem cold and cruel but deep down just really, really care about people and the state of the world. Vivienne absolutely nailed that.
My first few times through, I couldn't stand her. But over time, I grew to like her a lot and appreciate her character. She is a brutally honest woman who doesn't let idealism blind her to reality. The reality being that too many mages (not all!) simply don't have what it takes to live without the rules and guidance of a Circle. Vivienne proved to all those around her that she was a mage who could control her powers, could withstand any demonic attempts to tempt her, and was unwavering in her admonishment of blood magic. She proved she was a staunch defender of Thedas and it's people. She earned respect and trust enough to be a more or less Free Mage. I don't believe for a second that she wouldn't wish the same for every single mage. I believe she very much would want every mage to be free if it was possible. If every mage showed their loyalty to the people, if every mage had the mental will and fortitude to scoff at any demon attempting to commune with them, if every mage was disgusted with blood magic as they should be and never compromised their integrity and good nature by using it. But until that day comes, Vivienne knows that the Circles are needed. For the safety and well being of everyone. And I can't fault her for that.
I don't get why some people don't like her, she doesn't like to sugarcoat things and never goes into a situation unprepared, also her fashion sense is unrivalled, seriously.
Her character is incomplete to me. Like they got her spotlight, and a place enough to be a companion, but not a developed companion. I don't mean I need her to see the light and have character development into kindness, I just think she was just 'there' and was only trying to work the Inquisitor, not at all open to being worked by anything around her. Basically, I wish there was more going on with her than we got to see in DAI. But if she's in a future game and we see more interesting stuff, then go for it Bioware.
Well, a lot of the fandom hate her because she's a classicist with aggressive ambition that doesn't care that the circles had very real problems. Problems she refuses to address if she becomes. I hate how she treats a lot of the companions in game that she can only see as low class rabble. I can't hate her though. For all her flaws she cares deeply about Thedas and her friends. She knows that everyone fears mages for very good reasons and she doesn't care if her peers hate her for speaking out about those reasons. We've seen the consequences of magic unchecked. She knows that mages are safer under guard where the people can't start witch hunts and they're protected if one of their peers becomes an abomination. Plus she has top tier snark and over the top fashion sense.
Holy shit. This is why I use her in my party. She covers that 'Knight-Enchanter' role I needed so much. Dorian for damage, VIvienne for Godless destruction.
And fully spaced Knight Enchanter with Spirit maxed out...invincible...as long as you keep swinging that sword you can take out dragons all on your own. I know. I've done it. Also, if you modify a weapon to give you Guard for every hit, you can truly be invincible.

I mean, in my second playthrough in DAO my Male warden romanced Zevran(And I am straight, make no mistake of that, I just do the romances for fun and never for sexual amusement). Admit it though, you must have thought about it once how it would be to romance Zevran with a male character

I know this is a year old post. But Hollywood has a horrible record when it comes to Video Games that become movies. Tomb Raider (Jolie ver.) and Resident Evil (though not about the main game series) are the only successful ones.

I'm going to love Orlais if everyone is as extravagant as those two.
2 years later I love this video just as much, but unfortunately we only see Val Royeaux's dinky little marketplace. Wicked Hearts was ok though, and Vivienne, holy shit that bitch is indomitable and amazing. Love her, and this game.

M. McDade-Allen I guess it depends on how long she lived in Orlais for. I lived in London till I was seven and then my family moved to the midlands where people speak very differently but I never picked up the accent (thank goodness).
I hope they do one of these for each of the companions, at least I hop they do Cole, I'm considering having him around a lot as I liked the book he was in (can't remember name right now) and we don't know much about how he is in inquisition.
Watched Iron Bull's trailer and instantly wanted him. Watched this and now want Vivienne. Definitely want Dorian because I've always been fascinated by the Tevinter Imperium. But Varic is Varic and he is awesome. Sera seems to be the comic relief (like Alistar) so I definitely want her. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy and all that. Want Blackwall because the Grey Wardens are so badass. Damn, I have no idea who I want in my main party :I
In my own experience with the past DA games, I found that most of the characters had so much depth that it took a while to really get a feel for them. Unfortunately, the game isn't long enough for you to experience that with everybody so you end up choosing your favorites, and then having to do a replay with the characters that you didn't chill with the first time around.
i actually laughed when i saw the tacked on ad for X Box One. Not because i dislike X Box, it's my favourite way of gaming but because it was just so out of no where it seemed like a joke.
Plus its on literally every game trailer ever, how much money did Microsoft throw down the drain for advertisements as slick and sneaky and make you think about buying one as a guy shouting XBOX ONE for no reason? Gotta say, didn't convince me.
it doesn't need to convince people it just has to make them think about the X Box One, because if a consumer thinks about a product long enough they will want to buy eventually. Note: this doesn't always work but a lot of the time it does.

Healing is gone from the game. The 3 specializations deal with different things then past games for majors. Idk what her specialization is but if I had to assume since you have 3 different mages and she is the only 1 involved with the chantry I would say Knight Enchanter. Look it up on the website and dragonage.wikia.com...there you will get all the I info.
Lore wise the guy was throwing shade on her position and rising position as Court enchanter. Which was a position for mages of the Orlais court which only amounted to lighting candles and performing magic tricks. In other words mages were practically clowns and entertainers more than bards(who were highly regarded in Orlais) in terms of entertainment and less than bards in terms of overall usefulness. Vivienne is the only one to make Court Enchanter a position of real power. Most likely because she refused to be apart of one of the mage political groups( libertarians etc.). She is also the youngest First Enchanter. Baring that title she managed to go outside of the circle and grant those who she deems worthy to also travel outside. Mind you as a mage you cant go outside even with strong political holdings unless the first enchanter allows you to. So Bastien despite being one of the Council of Herald members (most influential people in Orlais) backing her as Vivienne was his mistress she still couldnt be outside. In conclusion: She meets her title as Madame De Fer(Iron Women) and is best fit in whatever position she has because she is capable to do so. Along with being in the Grand Game of the circle( its still played in the Circle or no) she makes quite the standing.
Since Vivienne only thinks of ways to gain more power and seem someone who could kill you just with one word or look it would've been interesting to see her romance story. We could've seen her human side and maybe find out that she's a gentle woman under her defences. Pity.. bacause i like to know the background of all characters and finding out why they are what they are. Just my curiosity i guess.

literally one of my favorite Dragon Age characters. she is so much more than the elegant, cold, powerful surface she shows to the world. she makes a fair point about the rebel mages and actually kind of convinced me that they do need circles not only to protect the world from the dangers of being a mage but to also protect mages themselves. i always make her the divine. her love for you is real,she keeps it real. but shes also not afraid to be "a bitch, and she knows."
I don't use her because I'm a Mage and I use Solas for story reasons, leaving Dorian and Vivienne for DLC (if I even use a 2nd mage) and I prefer Dorian. But in future playthroughs, especially as Warrior and Rogue, sure I'll try her and see if I like her more.
She has long been a favorite of mine, though I get the criticism. She is not an altruistic character by any means. She is capable of affection and respect; I love her interactions with The Iron Bull (once she puts him in his place, which frankly he had coming...calling her "Viv", asking her about the sex lives of mages??? no.), and if you have a high approval with her she is very affectionate and respectful of the Inquisitor. And she truly loves her Duke...Yes, she is a snob. But she she earned everything she has.; she wasn't just born to it. And while she clearly loves power, she knows how to wield it. She is a brilliant player of the Game and used it to achieve a level of power and influence that is almost unheard of for a mage....but it is also why she is a Loyalist...not because she believes but because through that she has has so much power and she does not want that to change. She does not want mages to be free because then her power and what makes her so special and unique would be diminished. Her disdain for Cole is a sign of one of the few things that she would fear which would be demons and the Fade, magic and forces that she has little understanding of...I doubt Vivienne ever spends much time in the Fade, she would be too fixated on the intrigues of the real world and maintaining and improving her place in it.
It can be both, you can smile because you've lost the plot or caused said disaster, or because you know you're gonna get to do something epic in a minute

Not really. Vivienne is the damage dealer. Dorian is the support mage. Solas a mixed of both in some gameplays, trailers and screenshots

Winter is-- err Inquisition is Coming!
Watched Iron Bull's trailer and instantly wanted him. Watched this and now want Vivienne. Definitely want Dorian because I've always been fascinated by the Tevinter Imperium. But Varic is Varic and he is awesome. Sera seems to be the comic relief (like Alistar) so I definitely want her. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy and all that. Want Blackwall because the Grey Wardens are so badass. Damn, I have no idea who I want in my main party :I
In my own experience with the past DA games, I found that most of the characters had so much depth that it took a while to really get a feel for them. Unfortunately, the game isn't long enough for you to experience that with everybody so you end up choosing your favorites, and then having to do a replay with the characters that you didn't chill with the first time around.

i actually laughed when i saw the tacked on ad for X Box One. Not because i dislike X Box, it's my favourite way of gaming but because it was just so out of no where it seemed like a joke.
Plus its on literally every game trailer ever, how much money did Microsoft throw down the drain for advertisements as slick and sneaky and make you think about buying one as a guy shouting XBOX ONE for no reason?

it doesn't need to convince people it just has to make them think about the X Box One, because if a consumer thinks about a product long enough they will want to buy eventually. Note: this doesn't always work but a lot of the time it does.

Healing is gone from the game. The 3 specializations deal with different things then past games for majors. Idk what her specialization is but if I had to assume since you have 3 different mages and she is the only 1 involved with the chantry I would say Knight Enchanter. Look it up on the website and dragonage.wikia.com...there you will get all the I info.
No magical healing in DAI, they replaced it with shields, guard(temporary health) and potions, but I bet she can be a mean supporter.
Derek Reynolds Vivienne's specialization will have healing.

Derek Reynolds Knight Enchanter has a focus-based healing spell.
Lore wise the guy was throwing shade on her position and rising position as Court enchanter. Which was a position for mages of the Orlais court which only amounted to lighting candles and performing magic tricks. In other words mages were practically clowns and entertainers more than bards(who were highly regarded in Orlais) in terms of entertainment and less than bards in terms of overall usefulness. Vivienne is the only one to make Court Enchanter a position of real power. Most likely because she refused to be apart of one of the mage political groups( libertarians etc.). She is also the youngest First Enchanter. Baring that title she managed to go outside of the circle and grant those who she deems worthy to also travel outside. Mind you as a mage you cant go outside even with strong political holdings unless the first enchanter allows you to. So Bastien despite being one of the Council of Herald members (most influential people in Orlais) backing her as Vivienne was his mistress she still couldnt be outside.
In conclusion:
She meets her title as Madame De Fer(Iron Women) and is best fit in whatever position she has because she is capable to do so. Along with being in the Grand Game of the circle( its still played in the Circle or no) she makes quite the standing.
If wanted this game before, I could not possibly want it more than right now.

Since Vivienne only thinks of ways to gain more power and seem someone who could kill you just with one word or look it would've been interesting to see her romance story.
We could've seen her human side and maybe find out that she's a gentle woman under her defences.
Pity.. bacause i like to know the background of all characters and finding out why they are what they are.

literally one of my favorite Dragon Age characters. she is so much more than the elegant, cold, powerful surface she shows to the world. she makes a fair point about the rebel mages and actually kind of convinced me that they do need circles not only to protect the world from the dangers of being a mage but to also protect mages themselves.

I don't use her because I'm a Mage and I use Solas for story reasons, leaving Dorian and Vivienne for DLC (if I even use a 2nd mage) and I prefer Dorian. But in future playthroughs, especially as Warrior and Rogue, sure I'll try her and see if I like her more.
Because they are basic bitches. Vivienne is a queen and only royalty can handle a queen.

She has long been a favorite of mine, though I get the criticism. She is not an altruistic character by any means. She is capable of affection and respect; I love her interactions with The Iron Bull (once she puts him in his place, which frankly he had coming...calling her "Viv", asking her about the sex lives of mages??? no.), and if you have a high approval with her she is very affectionate and respectful of the Inquisitor. And she truly loves her Duke...Yes, she is a snob. But she she earned everything she has.; she wasn't just born to it. And while she clearly loves power, she knows how to wield it. She is a brilliant player of the Game and used it to achieve a level of power and influence that is almost unheard of for a mage....but it is also why she is a Loyalist...not because she believes but because through that she has has so much power and she does not want that to change. She does not want mages to be free because then her power and what makes her so special and unique would be diminished.
Her disdain for Cole is a sign of one of the few things that she would fear which would be demons and the Fade, magic and forces that she has little understanding of...I doubt Vivienne ever spends much time in the Fade, she would be too fixated on the intrigues of the real world and maintaining and improving her place in it.
