Alot of folks say Commissioned was the best male gospel group of all time. This Is True for me as well, but I'll even take it a step further and say I think they were one of the best Male Groups PERIOD. Gospel or other wise. Them dudes DID NOT mess around when It came to Production, writing, arranging....and oh yeah...Craaaazy Vocals!! Go 'head Commissioned!
The number 1 singing aggregation EVER assembled........These tunes kept my ear out of the world and fixed on Gospel music and the message of Christ's love..... Powerful lyrics, flawless production, uncompromising message, and ministry at it's finest... From 85 to today...The Music Industry's finest....The MOTOR CITY SUPERGROUP!!!!!!!!
I totally agree with on that. There will never be another (**sorry** got caught-up in that M.Brooks synth-solo.) Commissioned and Winans. The era has indeed passed. Thank God for the impact that they left with us.
This is commissioned at is best in the early days. They were matured in the stage & they were confident in their delivery. i remember when they 1st sang publicly .They blew everybody away back then. They just kept getting better. Thank you Commissioned for all the anointed music. There was nobody badder in concert. They use to kill us in detroit. The best part was the power of God would fall!
Commissioneds Music literally got me through my first 2 years of Salvation because their anointing and style of music literally WEANED ME off Secular music, for that I'm forever in their debt for the songs GOD gave them to write and record.
i grew up in detroit and went to the churches they grew up in -i had the privilege to watch them evolve into the powerhouse they became. They set the standard for secular groups like jodeci, rude boys, silk, boys to men. I miss gospel that had secular groups copying them. They really were anointed! The Holyghost would fall in their concerts. Sadly today gospels artist copy the secular. Commissioned didnt do it.
The greatest!!!! Love their energy and spirit. This is is why Fred Hammond is one of my favorite bassist. I was blessed to spend the day with them in and we opened their show in summer of 1988.
Wonderful Comment! I had the pleasure of seeing Commissioned live in concert a couple of times here in California back in the early 90's. Completely UNFORGETTABLE nights!! I miss this group something awful!!!
Commissioned is the greatest. God knew what he was doing when he placed these brother together. Excellent singers and an excellent band + the anointing which destroys yokes. Congrats to Commissioned and Shirley Caesar for being awarded BMI trailblazers for years of service. The ceremony to honor them will take place in Jan 2011.
@1:30 mitchell jones the team player, ready to help out his brother with a mic that works. God's grace covers and guided Keith's hand to get a handle on that mic. Commissioned I love you. All Commissioned fans. I love you too....
I apologize for going "postal" with the Commissioned comments. Anyhoot, we gotta' remember Commissioners that there were many branches/arms that came from this one group. Starting with Witness, Commissioned Community Choir, Young Artists for Christ Choir, Fred Hammond (solo) Keith Staten (solo), Radical for Christ, In the House series (urban praise), The Nation, Lisa Paige-Brooks (solo), JoAnn Rosario; influenced artists Dawkins & Dawkins & Israel Houghton. Whew!
@bdevroe . That is Michael Wright on guitar (later know as "Mike E"). His bother Earl use to play keys for Commissioned - he played on their first 2 albums.
Thanks a thousand times for posting!!! I'm a real fan. My wife tells me I'm a "PARA-SOCIAL" IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT THAT IS, LOOK IT UP...LOL...LOL, I THINK I AM WHEN IT COMES TO FRED AND THE FELLAS!!!!!!
Hey Reynkk, I don't even know if this can be found anymore.. I got lucky years ago and made a copy of it back in the 89... It has got to be out the somwhere...Going to try to post some others..
mike wright on guitar...crazy..mike brooks one man band on keys synths..the greatest group ever assembled..listen to fred's adlib's at the end....fred was a killa
Fred is playing an exquisite Ken Smith BT Custom through a Peavey bass stack, which as we all know is a pillar of audio fidelity...not! Credit to Peavey though, their gear could probably survive a nuclear blast...
Okay I've gotta ask this question because nobody has given me a direct answer as of yet. What happened with Michael Brooks? I know he left the group back in the early 90's along with Keith Staten. Why didn't he do the reunion with Commissioned? Also where is Michael Wright? Awesome guitarist!
@decook Hi. Thanks for sharing this information about Commissioned being honored. Can you provide an exact date for when this ceremony is going to take place and if it is going to be televised? Thanks a lot.

@TheBmaster25 Friday January 14, the day before the Stellar Awards in Nashville Tennessee. I am not sure about television though.
Fred is playing an exquisite Ken Smith BT Custom through a Peavey bass stack, which as we all know is a pillar of audio fidelity...not! Credit to Peavey though, their gear could probably survive a nuclear blast...

i love commissioned - they were the best! But interesting that this video has not seemed to inspire people to say "praise the Lord"...
1980s church ⛪️
The sound quality is pretty bad.
Still love this album
