I was a great fan of Susan Dunn in those days. I remember having bought a ticket for Verdi's Requiem in the Concertgebouw Amsterdam with her. I was looking forward to it for more than 6 months. The day of the performance she was ill and replaced. One of the biggest disappointments ever... After that I never heard of her again.. Such a pity. Also here she misses the high note in the Libera Me...
Some few years after I graduated from U of I (1981) around the same time Susan was working with John Wustman there, some voice teacher gave Susan the bad idea to stick out her tongue on high notes -- it wrecked her voice.......destroyed her gorgeous high notes.
It's such a tragedy how Susan Dunn's technique betrayed her so quickly. She probably had the most mind-bogglingly beautiful timbre of any spinto soprano in recorded history.
I love her voice as well. There is a Vespiri Sicilianni and a Giovanna D’Arco here on RUclips that are just beautiful. The Vespiri aria Arrigo! Ah, parli is perfection. Sadly she is not here what she was in those performances.
There is a recording of this same work performed by Susan along with Atlanta Symphony Orch and chorus, it put chills up and down my back!!! (Her performance particularly)
Good Requiem !!!❤

I agree that her singing was very beautiful. It's sad that her career was so short.
Sticking out her tongue on high notes destroyed her voice. @@sutherland9
Can you please elaborate? What does that entail?@@markferwerda7968
