For me it is: Sit down at other peoples homes because of splashing and respect for them and stand up at home because no respect for me. And also stand on public toilets for obvious reasons.

There is a better solution to the cold feet. Floor heating 🙌 That's the best thing in the world. I like it way better than normal radiators for the heating... And Floor heating combined with carpet in like a living room or bedroom is quite nice too... We have like a path with tiles through the carpet in the living room for the most common way to walk to the terrace, which reduces dirt significantly.
German man here, for me it was always just a logical thing to do. You can not pee standing up AND be hygienic about it; it will always splash out, even if the drops are not big enough for you to see. Not to mention how many people apparently miss more often than the hit. I know to many this may sound like an overreaction, but to me peeing standing up is just disgusting, it's pissing on the floor. We also, at some point, had pissoirs in our (guest)-bathrooms, the small bowl-shaped ones with a lid, but I never liked them either; after we had gatherings with more people, you would always see a yellow discoloration on the tiles under the pissoir.

I knew a person who's house had carpet in the bathroom except for like a 4'x4' area where the toilet was and it was linoleum tile. Rhino 8 just dropped this week too! I learned Matrix, and transitioned to Rhino from there.
