Great video. I've been eating up as much information as I can find on packet and BBS. I just bought a Kantronics KPC-3+. I'm seeing more and more people pick up the torch on packet and I'm really hoping that trend continues. There's so much we can do as amateurs with it and there's a lot of room for innovation there. If nothing else, if my bbs just sits there and does nothing, at least it'll be a fun (although rather expensive) project. Despite the cost, I wanted to use an old school hardware TNC even though as I understand it, Direwolf may be even better than a hardware TNC. Kantronics seemed to be a great fit since it has an onboard BBS to start with. Anyway, great video and hopefully I'll be on the air soon with my own BBS. 73's
Thank you so much for creating a simple yet awesome overview of how to connect to a BBS using packet. I don't think there is anything out there that hits the target like this video does. I really appreciate it. 73, Walter W5WEO
This looks easy and fun. From what you said you are running a BBS. Can you share what you are using for the BBS. If possable include the OS and software. I want to get this working in Huntsville.
I didn't see this till now sorry! I am actually using a hardware TNC (Kantronics KPC-3+) as well as a Motorola M1225 for the radio, since the site can have harsh conditions (unregulated temperatures, etc.) and we had limited space. I know you can create BBS's using BPQ32, I haven't played too much with it. Honestly the hardware TNC (while a little pricey for new) is the way to go for a set it and forget it BBS/digipeater. You can get a used one probably pretty cheap. That's my recommendation for starting out.
Thanks! So if you're going to use it locally (at your house) and not as a digipeater/BBS up on a mountain or something then you can just use a terminal program and a usb/serial cable to communicate.
Why in god's name are there no radio to radio digital protocols like there are for high frequency I don't wanna use infrastructure Am I going to have to go back to high frequency to get appeared appear digital proto protocol?
Probably the best presentation of a set up I have seen. Thank you. I just purchased an old AEA PK-232 and will be dedicating an old Tempo (?) 2 meter rig to leave the BBS on the air. I have been to the UZ7HO site and downloaded Easyterm but what sound modem file do I down load? de N5DJY

Thanks for the video, I was up and running pretty quick. But there's no one running packet in my area.😢
Used both of those programs when I lived in Florida. I live west of you in Sevier county and no digipeaters around here.
Great intro, thank you!
Thanks! You're welcome hope it helped
This is very helpful. Thank you.

Hi !! Greetings from Argentina !!!!!!! How can I use two Baofeng BF-999 and two arduinos to transmit and receive data over-the-air ?? Thanks !!!!!
zoomed Settings please.
Liked your video a lot. Does it make any difference which TNC you use. I just got a KPC-3+ at a local ham fest recently. Jim N3LBY

Unclear. Please rewrite.
Do you mean keyboard-keyboard?
