  • Knitting wool / yarn / cone winders
Different types and the challenges in re-using old empty yarn cones from commercial Wool / yarn mills with your wool winder.
I found a cardboard toilet roll insert doesn't stand very well when using to knit, nore to they stack very well when storing on top of 1 another.
If you have designed and 3d printed a solution, could you please share the 3d printing files (stl file) for people to print their own cones for various types of winders?
Please leave ideas/your solutions in the comments section.
    Thank you.

I've solved this in a really crude way by having a ring of elastic bands on the cone winder. I can move them up and down in order to catch onto the cone depending on how wide it is. For very wide cones I can add more elastics. I think if you printed something similar to that wooden tool you have but from a flexible filament that might work in a similar way.

That's a great idea. Thank you. I like the idea of the rubber bands. Will try using TPU. I'm still relatively new to 3d printing, I'll need to purchase a roll of TPU. I have been purchasing sample packs of filaments to do smaller TPU knitting machine parts

@@susanglaus4312 do you feel like you get a lot of benefit from your 3D printer for your fiber hobbies? I have a printer that I bought second hand and it's been a hardware project so I never actually got it into a printing state, and now I'm wondering whether I should finally fix it (or maybe rather buy a working one since I need to print parts for it before it can work).

You could cut a strip of non-slip drawer liner, and then wrap it around the cone until you have the right fit.

Maybe sticking some foil in between? And maybe make an easy mold from that foil

Aqui no Brasil usamos o fio que sai por dentro do enrolado, que sai mais facilmente que o de fora, então colocar cones por dentro não parece uma boa ideia...

What if you trim off the top or bottom of an empty cardboard cone down to the diameter you need?
