    abkco.lnk.to/LetItBleed
"Stray Cat Blues" by The Rolling Stones
Composers: Mick Jagger and Keith Richards
    Lyrics:
    Yeah, got some tail.
I hear the click-clack of your feet on the stairs
    I know you’re no scare-eyed honey
There’ll be a feast if you just come up stairs
    But it’s no hanging matter
    It’s no capital crime
I can see that you’re fifteen years old
No, I don’t want your ID
I can see that you’re so far from home
    But that’s no hanging matter
    It’s no capital crime
    Oh yeah
    You’re a strange stray cat
    Oh yeah
    Don’t ya scratch like that
    Oh yeah
    You’re a strange cat
I bet, bet your mama don’t know you scream like that
I bet your mother don’t know you can spit like that
You look so weird and you’re so far from home
But you don’t really miss your mother
Don’t look so scared, I’m not no mad brained bear
    But it’s no hanging matter
    It’s no capital crime
    Oh yeah
    Woo!
I bet your mama don’t know that you scratch like that
I bet she don’t know you can bite like that
You say got a friend, that she’s wilder than you
Why don’t you bring her upstairs
If she’s so wild then she can join in too
    It’s no hanging matter
    It’s no capital crime
    Oh yeah
    You’re a strange stray cat
    Oh yeah
    Don’t ya scratch like that
    Oh yeah
    You’re a strange stray cat
I bet you mama don’t know you can bite like that
I’ll bet she never saw you scratch my back

@@ElectricLabel I thought so, too, until I saw Keith on the film made when the Stones were putting together the song Sympathy for the Devil, and there's a part where Keith has his black Custom plugged into his Vox Supreme amp, and he hit a chord halfway up the neck in Open D tuning and it sounded just like the guitars in Stray Cat Blues -- very trebly. I think the Vox amps had treble boost, and that might have been part of it. I don't think Keith got into Tele's until later on.

@@ElectricLabel I don't think Keith's Custom had any mods. If it was wired with a coil tap, that would explain the piercing treble tone... But he may have used a Rangemaster treble boost (although I haven't read of him using one). I know the Vox Supreme he played through had top boost. One guy I talked to here on YT claims to have nailed all of Keith's 66-69 tones with a Custom and a Vox Supreme, so maybe it was something with the amp?

A great age for any young man...but exceptionally good if your the lead singer of the greatest rock band in the world recording masterpieces like Beggars Banquet...the first album in the Stones great 4 album run including Let It Bleed,Sticky Fingers and Exile on Main Street. The Stones had a lot of good albums...but those 4 are the only one's that fully capture their rock genius.

Based on a lot of the comments, this song still hits some raw nerves. "Stray Cat Blues" really isn't about "condoning" or encouraging sex with minors. The Stones back then were all about writing tunes that rocked, were catchy and yet made you feel infinitely uncomfortable when you dug into the lyrics. "Brown Sugar" for example...it's a powerful, irresistible steamroller of a tune that makes you want to get up and move, but the lyrics ("Scarred old slaver knows he's doing alright, hear him whip the women just around midnight" or "I bet your mama was a tent show queen and all her boyfriends were sweet sixteen") paint a pretty horrifying portrait. "Street Fighting Man" at first blush may sound like an homage to youthful idealism, but when you dig into Jagger's lyrics you begin to understand that he's really singing about the futility of it all. Then of course there's "Midnight Rambler," 'nuff said about that tune. Basically, the Stones at their best (and most threatening) held up a mirror so we could see our own reflections and the images were often rather ugly, exposing societal hypocrisy. That's just my take on it for what it's worth.

The Stones had an incredible DRONE thing happening in their recorded music in ‘68 and ‘69. Driving, churning one-chord (or I-IV over pedal tone) vamps that you never want to end. “Street Fighting Man”, “Jumpin Jack Flash”, “Midnight Rambler”, and, of course, the “Strat Cat” outro-it was a key element of their “evil” sound in this period. Was it coming from the Indian raga influences that Brian was superficially dabbling in but that Keith transformed into something completely different? Was it from the delta blues tradition? Was it just what happens when a guitarist first discovers open D tuning? All of the above?
