Part of me hates Mahito's hax "unless you can separate soul from body, you can't kill me" since it makes any fight between him and someone aside from Nobara, Yuji, or Sukuna just an instant loss or tie, but it gives Yuji one of the few opportunities to feel like a main character, especially since just because Todo and Nanami couldn't kill him solo, that doesn't mean they can't play support and jump him. Like those times when you want the entire squad to start helping to fight main villains, but they striaght up do jack because powercreep or no reason.
It helps that Mahito is also dangerous enough to seriously threaten Yuji if nobody comes to assist. Back during their first fight he stuck Yuji full of holes and was gonna crack his dome if not for Nanami's intervention, and in Shibuya it's Todo and Kugisaki that help him dish out his more brutal attacks on Mahito. Edit: TL;DR - Despite being the MC with a specialized reason to be capable of hurting Mahito, it's nice that Yuji still needs help since Mahito is that deadly.
