- Sandro Sukno is one of the best water polo players you'll ever see - prepare to be amazed!
Sandro Sukno, born on June 30, 1990, in Dubrovnik, Croatia, is the son of the renowned Croatian water polo player Goran Sukno. It’s no surprise that Sandro and his brother Ivan chose water polo as their sport. Sandro displayed exceptional talent from a young age, making it clear that he was destined to become a water polo star.
Throughout his career, Sandro played for several top clubs, including Dubrovnik's Jug, Italy's Pro Recco, and Rijeka's Primorje. He achieved everything possible in water polo, including winning the LEN Champions League with Pro Recco in 2012. With the Croatian national team, he amassed numerous medals, with the most notable being:
1st place at the 2010 European Championship in Zagreb, Croatia.
1st place at the 2012 Olympics in London, UK
1st place at the 2017 World Championship in Budapest, Hungary
In 2017, Sandro was awarded the title of the best water polo player in the world by Total Waterpolo.
Unfortunately, due to heart problems, Sandro had to end his playing career at the age of 27. However, his winning spirit remained undiminished as he transitioned to a coaching role. Sandro is currently the coach of Pro Recco. In his three years as coach, he has already secured 10 titles, including being named the best team in Europe for two consecutive years, 2022 and 2023.
A born winner, Sandro Sukno continues to make his mark on the sport, now from the sidelines.
In summary, Sandro Sukno's career is nothing short of remarkable. His impact on the sport and his lasting legacy will continue to inspire generations of water polo players to come. We owe a great deal to this legendary player for shaping the sport we know and love today.
